How many of you...
Paid for the dresses of your bridesmaids?I'm in a bridal party with a friend and she's complaining about how she has to pay for her dress when her Aunt paid for her when she was a bridesmaid in that wedding. I tried explaining that it's not that common and she's arguing with me that if you ask someone to be a bridesmaid you should be obligated to pay for the expenses. I almost wanna tell my other friend she said this but I don't want to add the stress.

I have never heard of paying for your bm's dresses. All my girls paid for their own, I did buy my fg's dress though.

I've only heard of it when like, an older woman gets married and there daughter is a bridesmaid, they'll pay for the dress. I didn't buy my girls dresses either, but I took care of there make up and jewelry, and told them to do whatever they wanted with there shoes because I wasn't too picky.

Re: How many of you...
I paid half of all of my girls dresses
....I offered it to them as their BM gifts, they all jumped on it. I bought their shoes too. Looking back, I shouldnt have been that generous...since only 1 BM wasn't a pain in my asss by the end, the rest were horrible

Re: How many of you...
i did not pay for any of my BMs either.I think in Chinese weddings, the bride & groom rent dresses for everyone and pay for the rental & the fittings.
But otherwise, i've never heard of the bride & groom paying

Re: How many of you...
I shelled out 1400 dollars for my bridesmaid dresses but that is because i never paid my girls back for the dresses from my wedding to a mamas boy that called off 3 years to the date I got married to dh so I thought it was only right.

Re: How many of you...
I paid for my sister's dress, but she was only 17 at the time and I felt bad. I didn't want to put the expense on my mom and I didn't want my sister to spend what little money she had from her part time job on a BM dress. Also, my MOH didn't buy a dress. That's a long story but she wound up using an old bridesmaid dress of mine.
ETA: But no, that's NOT the norm.

oh i understand circumstances, I think I would have paid for junior bridesmaids if I had them just because they are young and obviously don't have jobs and if there mothers were in the party I couldn't see myself hitting them up for 2 dresses.
this friend is annoying....she obviously has money to go out to the wineries every weekend and she can't put aside $10 a week? the dress is only $120, and you don't need the full amount when you go to order it.
can't wait til she gets married. man am I gonna purposely be a pain just so she sees what it feels like....

I've been a bridesmaid plenty of times and always paid for my dress, shoes, makeup, hair, nails, etc. I've never really heard of the bride paying for these things. My girls paid for their own as well

Re: How many of you...
The two weddings I was in in Alaska I only paid for my dress. Hair was paid for and my makeup was done by a bridesmaid. The two weddings I've been in here I've paid for everything, shoes, hair, makeup....and yes the dress. One of which was so hideous I gave it away to charity the very next week. It could possibly be a nice prom dress!Welcome New Vendors
