I can't bring myself to write this TY Card

DH has 2 brothers, both were the best men ... both were very generous when it came to our gift. HOWEVER, they both gave AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL speeches and i can't bring myself to write their thank you cards

Let me preface the story with the fact that we asked each of them to keep their speeches to one minute, give or take.

One of them gave a 30 second speech which was good, followed by saying 'i wanted to prove i'm not as introverted as you thought i was' and then singing 'Sweet Child of Mine' ... the entire song! Why that song!? Why the whole song?! he just wanted to show off and 'prove' he's not introverted! and he's not even a good singer! annoying!

The other brother was worse. He gave a 10 second speech that ended with 'may all your ups and downs be in the bedroom' (don't get me wrong, it's kinda funny ... but not as part of a best man speech!) .... then he showed a photo montage for TEN MINUTES!!!! and the montage had mostly pictures of DH and not me! And we already had a montage so it kind of took away from ours!

Anyway, i can't bring myself to write their TY cards because i'm not thankful for them. They pulled really selfish and rude moves and totally didn't listen to what we had asked for from them!

ok, just thought i'd vent .... sorry it's kinda long :-/

how bout 'thank you for your generous gift, which will be going straight to the videographer since your speeches took up more one minute each. love, your sis,....'

What's done is done. Aside from those stupid speeches, do they have good relationships with your DH? Are they tight with him? Did they do the other (albeit few...men have it easy when it comes to being in a BP) BP duties without many issues?

If they answers to those questions is 'yes', then just write a general thank you note. Or have DH write it.

I think you have to get over it. Both my BILs speeches were ENTIRELY about DH. They didn't even mention me except when Jonathan said something about him always looking out for everyone so I never have to worry about stuff thats broken and Justin said I don't have to worry about him buying a boat over a new kitchen (like his dad did) because I already got a new kitchen. I have been to almost 40 weddings as an adult and more weddings then not the Best Men speeches are impersonal, stupid or don't mention the bride. Especially when its a brother saying them. Boys are dumb. It is what it is. I would just write the notes.

At least you got good gifts... I got a weed wacker from one and $ from the other but not much for two people.

Why are you writing thank you's to his brothers? DH should be doing that.

I'll probably be doing the same! That's so... strange. I mean it's pretty obnoxious but in such a weird way that you kinda have to laugh.

I WOULD HAVE KILLED SOMEONE!

FBIL's speech was ONLY about DH and completely tanked.... but mostly because he put no time or effort into it and stumbled through the thing like it was his first time speaking in public (he had 'points'). It took forever and people started talking during it at the end.

But if he bust into song I would have had the DJ cut the mic!

What does DH say about it? Make him write those TYs.

He doesn't mind the singing brother but also hated the photo montage brother's speech.

LOL if you see the photos of us during that, we look SOOOO mad ... i'll try to remember to post one of those pics tonight.


I'll probably just do as you all suggested and have DH write the TY cards for them .... or maybe i'll write something overly simple for them (because if DH writes it, he'll be too nice and they don't deserve it)

ETA: and yes, i know i'm being passive agressive
