I gave myself a birthday gift...

I'm SO happy! My credit has been going up and up (it was below 600 which was terrible - I blame my 3 years in radio) and now I just paid off one of my cards and closed the account. I'm SO excited! It was my gift to myself and I can't wait to see my credit report next month!!!!!

DH will be VERY happy to hear this as well. I heard you can't even think about buying a house if your score is under 600 so hopefully it just keeps going up and when we're ready my credit won't mess anything up for him!

DH's credit is so awful... his ex left him with a shittt ton of debt that he built up helping her out with crap... wennnnnnnnnnch.

but we've been doing great with it.

we opened a card for him at the beginning of the year and have been using it for one thing monthly and paying it off every month.

and we've been paying down my CC and its almost finally paid off... even though my score is pretty good -- can't wait to see it go up after its paid off!!

I thought if you keep checking your credit like that it actually makes it go down. Thought you could only check it once a year w.o ring penalized.

I have a credit card that has my credit score attached to it. So when I go on to pay my bill it already has the breakdown of a year so I can see the score, I'm not really going on one of those websites to see it.

Nope - the 3 major credit boroughs partner with several services (I use Credit Monitoring via USAA Federal savings bank for 5 dollars a month) that enable you to manage and better understand your score and what you can do to maximize it. You are actually encouraged to check your credit reports to ensure there is no incorrect info. The service I use provides a ton of informative resources.
