Many of you know the story of Bear...

Bear being the evil cat, mother of our beloved Helmut. And many of you also know that Helmut is terminally ill with an ENORMOUS tumor in his shoulder. Well anyway, Bear is really not a nice cat, as those of you who have had the pleasure of meeting her or watching her videos know.

Last night, Bear wakes up MIL and SFIL by meowing incessantly (not normal). Finally SFIL gets up and Bear leads him to the kitchen. He sees the food and water are full so he's like but she keeps meowing. Then he notices Helmut standing on the floor looking up at the food and water (which is on top of the counter so the dogs don't eat it). SFIL then realizes that Helmut wants to eat but is no longer able to jump up there because of his shoulder. So he picks him up and puts him up by the food. He sits on the couch figuring he'll wait for Helmut to be done and make sure he can get down. He falls asleep. Wakes up to Bear, meowing in his face. Helmut was finished eating and wanted to come down.

Maybe it's the preg hormones, but hearing this story just now brought tears to my eyes. Bear, the world's worst pet and awful mother to her numerous litters of kittens, has a shining moment - right in time for Mother's Day.

its amazing how smart these fur balls are and how protective they are of each other
my 'alpha' cat does the same if he thinks we are 'torturing' the other one, he's the only one that is allowed to torture him hehe

physically he's not great. the tumor is tremendous. his one shoulder is just ginormous. but, he isn't in any pain (and he will def. let you know if he's in pain). he's still eating like a ravenous beast. he still goes outside and sits on the stoop in the sun, and lays in the dirt under the bushes when he wants some shade.
and most indicative of all, he still molesters the shiz out of Mike when he sees him. He hobbles over to greet him and rubs on his leg and hops up to brush his knee.

this is why he's not being put down now. he really does have his wits about him and is, in all respects, normal - except that he limps and he now apparently can't jump up on the counter on his own. i mean but really - it's a kitchen countertop - it's fairly high.

mike sees him every single day that he's off. we will reassess when we get back from vacation next wk.

I'm so happy to hear that he's very much himself and that he's not in pain...and that Mike goes to visit the little dude as much as he can!

I gotta tell Neel the story (and the update of Helmut - he asked me not long ago about him...he's become such a cat person!) when I get home.
