My office has bed bugs.

I am beyond disgusted now. I understand that they are all over NY and it's hard for a place NOT to have them, but I don't have them in my house and I want to keep it that way.

And the stupid asss director of administration sends us an e-mail saying that's it's not a big deal, they don't even carry diseases. Um it's a big deal to me if I have to throw out all my clothes, bedding, MATTRESS and pay to have them removed!! UGH!

Uh, YEA it is a big deal actually. They spread via anything cloth and are very very very hard to get rid of. Plus they bite and leave horrible itchy, red, sometimes painful bumps! Ughhh, I am soooo sorry!!!!!!!

Thank you!!! It's a big effing deal to me!! I feel like I'm itchy all over!!!

They are currently going over the office with the bed bug sniffing dogs and I guess then they will exterminate. It was one of the secretaries that brought them here, no wonder she's been calling all damn day! I know it's not her fault and she made them aware of it as soon as she knew but GROSS!

I saw some news show over the weekend about them and my DH said to me that I looked like I saw a ghost. I hope you don't get them

They should close down and get rid of them

Thank you!! Seriously, they should close the office but they won't do that. I'm so sorely tempted to call in until they get it resolved. I have plenty of sick time... and I was already planning on calling out on Friday.

I would do this! Until this is resolved, I wouldn't go in.

I'm scared sh!tless of bed bugs. Just in case, go to sleepy's and buy the mattress protector for bed bugs. I'm a loon and I did this for our own mattress.

If I were you I would absolutely call until it is resolved. A good friend of mine was infested with them and it was an absolute nightmare for her to get rid of them.
I wouldn't want to be anywhere near that office until it is clean.

It really is awful. My cousin went to DR for a baseball tournament and he got bed bugs from the hotel he was staying in. He said it was the worst!! If you have the time I would take it.

ughhh sucks! My school had a big problem with them a few years ago. It was NASTY! I would come home, take off my clothes right away to get washed. It's a bitttttch to get them out of your house. CHeck yourself every day.! relly succcccccks

An update!

Apparently the infestation is worse than they thought. They assumed it was isolated to one area or at least one floor. This isn't the case- it's THROUGHOUT the office. Soooo they said we could call in if we felt uncomfortable working in that condition. My entire dept. banned together and called in today. Soooo I'm watching Saved by the Bell and enjoying an itchy free 4 day weekend! They are still taking it out of our sick time but I have over a week and I really don't care.

I vacuumed my mattress and washed my clothes in hot water as soon as I got in the door. I'm def. gonna go to Sleepy's and look at the mattress protection stuff though just in case. I mean it's not just in my office, it's all over NY, so better safe than sorry! Thanks ladies!

Oh no!!!! I freaked out about possibly having them when I got home from St. Lucia. I got it in my head that we had them. It's very scary after researching it. You should start taking preventions in your house now if God forbid you did bring one home. You wouldn't know it right away.

I went to this website tallmanscientific.com and ordered the mattress and box spring cover to play it safe. They also have the powder you can buy. Considering the problem is that bad at work I would spray with it. It's not harmful so why not, right? Eek, good luck!

And come to think of it...it's very possible that the secretary who has them got them from your office instead of being the one to bring them in. If the infestation is that bad at work and she just found out she has them it's a good possibility.

That's what I'm thinking now. Our firm was in the Law Journal and everything saying we've had them for weeks and they never notified staff, the building, or other firms that share our office space. GROSS! I've been vacuuming everything like crazy, I washed my clothes in really hot water yesterday, too. Thanks again everyone!

if you get bed bugs in your home, i would have your office pay for the damages. especially if they say it's 'not a big deal,' i'm sure they wouldn't mind picking up that tab.

Yeah, that's my big issue with it. But they won't do it- they'll say there's no proof that I could've gotten them anywhere. Which is why I'm home until the fumigate over the weekend! I understand it can take more than one shot to kill them all, but it gets rid of most of the live ones and then they have to come back for the eggs.

I work with my MIL and that crazy woman has been at work the past 2 days! Sorry, ain't happening!

My office has taken this very seriously. They had an inspection done and the dogs found traces of bed bugs but no live ones supposedly. They closed off all the offices where traces where detected and fumigated those offices. In the meantime, people who had traces of bed bugs in their office worked out of cubicles or worked from home (but couldn't access their office in the meantime).
