name change and DMV

When you go to the DMV to change your name, do they keep your copy of the marriage certificate and send it back to you later?

Nope. The DMV just looked at mine. They didn't even make a copy.

do you hve to go to SS office before DMV? i'd really like to get the ball rolling on this but i can't take any more days off of work until the new year

Nope. I already did DMV and my bank with just my marriage certificate. Next I have to go to SS.

i went to SS office first because when i went to the DMV, i showed them my new temp SS card.

dammit, i forgot about my passport.

how do you change that?


I just printed out the forms online, got a passport picture taken at Rite Aid, attached it to the forms, sent my marriage license with it and sent it UPS to the address they give you. They mailed me back everything in about 2 weeks and then I got my new passport the following week.

I did DMV first (license, title, registration) and then did car insurance.

Tomorrow or monday is SS, and then all cc's and banks,and work stuff
