Name change Question

DO you have to go to Social Security before going to the DMV to change your name? I'm dreading this whole thing. I'm going by myself on Friday and I'm having anxiety over it!

I'm gonna have to do both in 1 day too cuz I'm not off any other days during the week and I can't take off.

I heard you can mail your Social Security one! Not sure how true this is.

I had to go to social security first. thats what the dmv told me. but i don't see why you can't do dmv first.

i have basically only done dmv and social security. I have about 50 other people i need to contact about name change and im so dreading all of this

When I went to DMV I had already gone to SS office but they did say its a good thing I did because I needed it. I live in NJ though so maybe its different?

I did both literally in one day... thats how long you wait... half a day at DMV and the other half in Social Security. Buts it done... now I need to do my passport
