name change question

Umm. does anyone know the process and what you need to take with you if anything? How long does it take and what needs to be changed? tia

I started with DMV and SS office. Then I changed my name at the bank and my job. I only really have my passport left to change.

Everyone wants your marriage license...I didn't get any copies of it, I just went with my original and nobody asked to keep it. DMV and SS wanted my license as well. If you want to change your name on your title you need the title with you, unless your registration is expired, in which case you don't need it.

I called the cc companies and did it right over the phone, went to the bank with my marriage license.

Haven't done the passport yet.

First go to SS security office and DMV. You need your marriage license. DMV you have to pay. It wasn't a lot..Maybe $15.

Then change banks, cc, work, insurance...have copies of the marriage license for these things. For work stuff, you probably have to wait until you get your new SS card...about 2 weeks.

Passport. $30, send in ORIGINAL marriage license, old passport and 2 passport pictures.

It's simple, just annoying. I onyl have passport left.

I had a problem w/ the DMV. They wanted my new SS card before they changed my name on my license so I had to do SS first. I've heard of people doing DMV first and them not asking for your SS card but I wouldn't take a chance and waste your time. Everyone wants your marriage certificate though.

ETA: The bank wanted my marriage certificate and license with new name

Lucky, you're waiting for your marriage license still?? I would call and find out about that. Mine came in less than a week...

thats so weird..well it doesnt help that my priest mailed it in late, like 25 days after the wedding!!!!



but still, I want to see the official piece of paper!
