NWOTD Question of the Day - 7/26/11~

Describe a moment in your life when you thought - 'SHlT! This stuff only happens in the movies!'

I have two - My first one was 9/11 when I was in HS a few blocks away from the towers. The whole morning of just people panicking, watching the towers burning from our windows, and then the shiver felt in our building when the first tower collapsewas all so surreal. we were finally evacuated because they were afraid all the buildings in the area might start collapsing and as we were evacuating, the second tower fell and this HUUUUUGE dust cloud rose behind our school and people were screaming and crying because they thought our school had been struck. I remember thinking 'This only happens in the movies' and I wished it were a bad dream!'

the second one, a much lighter one, was when I got into a fight with my mom and i stormed out of the house to go for a drive and i got into a car accident. with a COP CAR.

He was in my blind spot and it was super late at night and no other cars were on the road and i completely side swiped him

Then like 7 cop cars and ambulances showed up and it was the most embarrassing moment of my LIFE and they thought i was high or drunk but once i passed all those tests (and the cop was not hurt), they were much nicer to me.

only in the movies,

Re: NWOTD Question of the Day - 7/26/11~

when I was DTD with DH for the first time. It was like 2 in the morning (on a monday morning none then less lol). We were in the midst of it, and I threw a pillow which knocked over a cup of orange soda all over his nightstand. We didn't care, so we continued, and then we heard his mom come to the basement door and ask why he was calling her cellphone in the middle of the night. We didn't hear her at first, so she comes downstairs, and flips the light on and..... yeah. She never liked me after that

everytime I tell this story, everyone says that that's something straight out of a comedy movie

Re: NWOTD Question of the Day - 7/26/11~

I believe the 10'ers have heard this story, but to me, it never gets old. DH was using the bathroom one day and it clogged (we live in the money pit) and started to overflow. Since DH is a little...prissy... he didn't want his feet to touch the water so he decided to climb, catlike, along the ledge of the tub with the plunger in hand. From his perch on the tub, he leaned forward, supporting himself on the towel rack to balance himself, while he tried to unclog the toilet. During this whole issue, I was running around getting the mop to clean up the water. I got to the bathroom door just in time to witness the towel bar snap and DH fall arm first into the toilet bowl. He was literally in the toilet up to his elbow and fortunately wasn't hurt. I was leaning on the mop handle and dove forward to... I don't know... I guess catch DH when he fell and the mop handle also snapped and I went sliding across the floor in the toilet water. I looked up at this point and I just see my dog standing in the bathroom doorway looking at us both with disdain and I lost it. I started hysterical laughing on the floor. DH jumped up, red in the face, and yelled 'IT'S NOT FUNNY! CLEAN THIS SH!T UP!' which only made me laugh harder.

ETA: Another one, because it's always funny when people fall.

One day DH and I were cleaning the house. I always take upstairs and DH takes downstairs. I don't know why, but I was annoyed at him for something stupid. He yelled up the stairs for the Fantastic and I tossed it down the stairs. Neither of us realized then, but the sprayer broke and it started leaking on the stairs.DH made a comment about me throwing the bottle under his breath. I heard and went tearing down the stairs to confront him. When I got to the windexed step, I slipped (fortunately, it was the third to last step) and slid the rest of the way down on my asss. I got to the bottom step and just looked up at DH all angry and bewildered. He just looked at me and said 'That's your own fault.' I marched back upstairs without a word but the next day, DH and I were sitting down eating dinner and I just looked at him and said 'Ya know what's funny? Me falling down the stairs.' He just burst out laughing and said 'I didn't want to bring it up, but that was hysterical!' At least we can laugh at ourselves.

Re: NWOTD Question of the Day - 7/26/11~

One night, it was late, i was getting gas near my house and i turn down the road behind the gas station, and there is an overturned car.... As i get closer i realize that it was my friend Laurens car... and then i see that Shaun is standing next to the ambulance...

So I pull over and run over there... it turns out that Shaun borrowed Laurens car to go to the store and on the way back lost control and hit a pole and flipped over 3 times...

He wasnt hurt at all... if he didnt have his belt on he would have been dead...

ETA: since he wasnt hurt they didnt have to take him to the hospital... and the guy in the ambulance was from Rockaway and knew him so he let me take him and drive him home!

this was a few weeks before we started dating...

ETA: i have about a dozen more stories but they are all about Shaun and the stuff that happens to him... But since I always 'throw him under the bus' (according to him) I wont tell them lol

Re: NWOTD Question of the Day - 7/26/11~

sometimes i wonder how stuff happens to me but back in the days, I was out drinking w/ my sister's and we decided to have a piggy back race down the streets of manhattan. i hopped on one of my sister's guy's friends and we start racing w/ another couple and my dude trips on a raised sidewalk. i went flying and hit my head on a tree and scrape the side of my face on the sidewalk. i was unconcious and apparently was dripping blood from my head like a mofo. The fun stopped there !

everybody was petrified. i wasn't responding so they called the ambulance and i had to get stitches in my head. i woke up the next morning in extreme pain in some hospital in the city and my sisters and her friends were sleeping in the waiting room. i had to go home in my bloody jeans and white shirts. ppl on the streets looked at me like i killed somebody. but yea, that def felt like something out of the movies - NEVER AGAIN

Re: NWOTD Question of the Day - 7/26/11~

When I was a Bartender I would obviously get home at all hours of the morning. I would go to DH's house because there are camera's all over the property, and I am scared of being kidnapped So I would go to his house so if I was on e day it would be on camera and the cops can come find me So I did my Laundry and after work went to his house and the next morning we went upstairs to eat breakfast. While eating breakfast FIL walks in and goes by the way you left your Thongs on the driveway! They fell out of the pant leg of the sweatpants I brought to wear

ANOTHER

My friends and I thought it would be an awesome idea to play flip cups with Patron and we went to the bar after that we always go to and we had to pee but the girls bathroom was so backed up we went into the boys. While in there we decided it would be funny to take a pic standing on the urinal. When my friend snapped the picture the urinal came off the wall and broke the waterpipe and water started spraying EVERYWHERE!

Re: NWOTD Question of the Day - 7/26/11~

Oh My goodness my whole life is a comedy movie in the making. From Crazy co-worker to crazy ex-husband who ends up working in he same building as me to crazy 1st dates who wants me to clean his apt and change his sheets for him to my MIL's(RIP) antics. Pick one!

Here is an oldie but a goodie- I think some of the '10 girls might remember this story.

Before MIL passed away she was very ill for a long time. The last year or so I needed to help her in the bathroom so she wouldnt fall. There was one time I brought her in- sat her on the toilet and she said to me 'Celia can you rub my head for me?' I asked her 'Leslie does something hurt? Are you ok?' She said yes I am fine I just want you to rub my head it feels good' I said to her, shocked ' I am not rubbing your head as you sit on the bowl- thats just not right- I will wait for you outside call me when you are done' She didnt talk to me for the rest of the day

Re: NWOTD Question of the Day - 7/26/11~

In college, I lived with 3 other girls in a POS apartment in Downtown Albany. One day, we were attempting to make a 'family dinner' and I was in charge of the pasta... virtually impossible to mess up.... EXCEPT when you accidentally pull the faucet handle off of the kitchen sink and water starts shooting out EVERYWHERE throughout the kitchen!!! Forget about boiling water - everything was water logged and we had to call the landlord, who was none too pleased with us. It still cracks me up thinking of our fun roommate night turned comedy routine of trying to save kitchen and the dinner!
