NWQOTD 12*27*11
I'm HUGE on traditions old and new.... Whats a holiday tradition thats been in your family? My favorite holiday tradition that I cannot wait to continue when i have kids is the story of santa my mom always told us.
She said santa was getting so busy that he needed help from everyones 'dad'. So-- Santa would sprinkle Santa Dust on my dad around 1130 pm on xmas eve... my dad would get sleepy and say he needed to take a nap... everytime i heard my dad say this id shoot a look to my mom who would give me that reassuring 'see-- santa sprinkled the dust' at 12 oclock my dad would come dressed as santa and hand out presents to the whole family. Afterwards my 'dad' would come back from his 'nap' and say OMG santa came? and i missed him. And i'd look at my mom and smile. She told me dad would never remember a thing he would just think he was napping. Because of this story i probably believed in santa a whole lot longer LOL but i love this story and cant wait to pass it on!

I absolutely love that story Lizzie!!!!Christmas Eve was always my favorite! The whole family would come over (my grandmother lives with my mom so we always had Christmas) and there would be lots of food and fun! We would all sit in a circle and open our gifts at 11:30, then at 12 my uncles would make fried shrimp and scallops.
Also, my mom always buys us our Christmas PJs, this year mine said 'I'm Naughty' and DH's said 'I'm Nice'

Re: NWQOTD 12*27*11
we really don't have any traditions lol. I would like to create some though!! My mom this year did the hidden pickle in the tree thing. I think I would like to do this with my kids. In recent years, we celebrate the feast of the seven fishes on xmas eve, and I would like to do my own in the future.

Lizzie- that story is adorable
Growing up, Christmas Eve was a major holiday for us. We all would get together at my nana & poppy's house, eat until we were stuffed, open presents, and sang Christmas songs. My poppy would always dress up as Santa, and give us even more presents (one of them being new Christmas eve pj's). We'd get home, and my mom would put out the cookies and milk for Santa, and apple slices for the reindeers and my dad would read us 'The Night Before Christmas'.
Now, because we have so many families and houses to visit, the only traditions from my childhood that we will pass on to our children is the new pjs, cookies/milk/apple slices, and reading of the night before Christmas book.
From DH's side, he always used to get a Christmas coloring book with crayons on Christmas eve, and would color a picture for Santa and leave it with the cookies. I thought that was an adorable idea, so we will continue with that once we have kids

Loved that story lizzie!!!a tradition we had was going to my grammys on xmas eve. Everyone brought an appetizer and we just snacked all night long. We opened gifts (PJs from grammy every year) sadly since grammy passed our traditions have changed :( Mom got us PJs this year and girls if you saw them you would pee your pants...not sure what she was thinking...they are terrible!!!! lol! She tried :)
The other tradition was that before opening any gifts we has to put baby jesus in the nativity (he was always hidden in a plant or behind it. This year my 6 year old niece did it and it was so sweet :)
