*~*~*~*NWQOTD*~*~*~*

Good Morning Ladies,

Glad to do this again to keep the boards moving!

With the holidays fast approaching...are there any special traditions that you, DH & your families try to keep alive year after year? Is there anything new you and DH will start to do as a new family?

DH & I (who am I kidding, its really just me ) make the same traditions desserts, like strufoli, which if a very traditional Italian pastry (little honey balls) every Christmas and my mom and I make zepoles. On Christmas Eve, we only eat fish, and it has to be 7 or 12 different types of fish. We generally go to Midnight mass on Christmas Eve as well.

Probably not starting any new traditions this year, but probably will once we start having our own children.

Re: *~*~*~*NWQOTD*~*~*~*

There are a few that I have carried over from my family. Like new pajamas every Christmas Eve... to wear on Christmas morning.

DH and I will be spending Christmas morning together, just us this year. Years previous it was us at his family's house from Christmas Eve to the day after Christmas. We also go to Christmas Eve mass and we're going to have Christmas with the Calis every year now.

Re: *~*~*~*NWQOTD*~*~*~*

I love those little honeyballs yum! I want some now.

Well, MIL does christmas eve and makes these shrimp patties that are sooo good, and huge prawns, and codfish balls, and other portuguese goodies that are traditional and sooo good. I can't wait

DH and I don't have 'our' traditions yet except getting a special ornament for our tree whenever we are on vacation but I plan on having more traditions when we have a family.

Re: *~*~*~*NWQOTD*~*~*~*

Christmas is always at my parents. But a tradition we started 2 years ago (since we lived together) was opening our gifts to each other in our house the morning of Christmas eve. I'll make a nice breakfast and we'll take pictures of each other opening our gifts. After, we drive to LI to my parents and that night we have a family game night before the mounds of people come over the next day!

Re: *~*~*~*NWQOTD*~*~*~*

Last year we started a tradition for Thanksgiving that we kept on this year and plan to moving forward...Both of our families come over our house, I cook all the food, and we enjoy Looking forward to doing that again and again.

We don't celebrate Christmas, but each year we get a 'holiday' tree as I like to call it - decorate it and keep it up past the New Year. We also keep the ornaments from one year to the other.

Re: *~*~*~*NWQOTD*~*~*~*

The only Christmas tradition I've kept up with since moving out of my parent's house, is wrapping each person's presents in their own specific wrapping paper. But every christmas morning we go to my parent's, open presents then have a nice big breakfast that my mom and I cook.

This year, we're going to DHs mom's side of the family christmas morning, opening presents, and then driving to my parent's home, open presents and spend the rest of the day over their house.

Once we have children (which hopefully will be next year), I'll be hosting Christmas breakfast with my family, and Christmas dinner with dh's family.

Re: *~*~*~*NWQOTD*~*~*~*

We buy a 'family' ornament every year and then our son picks out his favorite ornament so we can see every year how our family has grown and how much the things he likes have changed

we bake all sorts of cookies together then watch christmas movies together the 3 of us

Re: *~*~*~*NWQOTD*~*~*~*

The only traditions we still do are that we hide the pickle in the tree every year (German side of the family tradition). We go to my mom's brothers for Christmas Eve and open some gifts with them. Then usually my mom cooks Christmas dinner, but since my dad is still in the hospital we aren't doing anything Then we usually go over to my aunt and uncle for the italian side of christmas (I loooove Strufoli Antonella!). I don't know if that is happening either. We are kind of playing it by ear this year due to my dads illness.

Re: *~*~*~*NWQOTD*~*~*~*

A few things:

Christmas- we buy ornaments everywhere. Actually my tree is 90% Disney related, but whatevs.

We have fish at my mom's on Christmas Eve and I sing in the choir at Midnight Mass. My favorite 2 minutes of the entire year are singing 'Joy to the World' at the end of mass.

I bake lots of cookies for Christmas

Hanukkah- quieter. We light the menorah. I make latkes usually just once.
