~Official Trader Joe's Thread~
Does anyone else think we should start this? I feel like someone will mention something really great and then I'll forget who it was, or what it was, and I'll have to search and search for it...this way, it's all confined to one spot - easy to find and such.

Trader's is great in the sense that not only are most of their prices reasonable but they give you a 'head start' on a lot that enables you to save (many of their items are 'pre-marinated' or 'prepped' so you save on some of the secondary items you would need to make a meal).
In certain categories (fish, cheese) I find the prices and quality to be FAR BETTER than a standard grocery store.
Variety is also outstanding!
We go to target for stuff like paper towels, cleaning supplies, etc.

the reason i ask is because id have to travel a half hour to get to the store... id rather not do that if its not going to be a significant savings

Re: ~Official Trader Joe's Thread~
Hmmm ang - I would probably suggest making the drive and pricing stuff out based on what you are looking for. I find the prices to be either comparable or better. We eat fish 2x per week and we buy really nice filet packages for 5-8 dollars (and there is always plenty!). This is SOOOO much better than a standard grocery and it goes without saying that it is far better than a place like whole foods. The quality is very good!
I think overall, the prices are really reasonable especially for the quality and volume that you get....

I find great deals for alot of their items. The prices are VERY reasonable. It's somewhat hard to compare because you arent comparing apples to apples...most of TJ items are things you can't find a regular supermarket. However the things that you can find (ex: Better'n PB is much cheaper at TJ. I get it for $3.99 at TJ and almost $5 at Target!)
IMO Produce and meat is defintely not cheaper- you're better off getting that at your regular supermarket.
I think its worth it to take at least one trip- stock up on a little of everything and see what you like. It's abbout a 15-20 minute ride for me so I try to go every 2-3 weeks and stock up on my favs.

Heather said it all. You can make the trip every once in awhile to stock up on a bunch of stuff...just a heads up though, the one on Metropolitan Ave (is that the one you would head to?) is a clusterfark during prime shopping hours...go either on a Mon-Th evening or EARLY Saturday (before 9:30) or Sunday evenings.
Another one in Brooklyn is supposed to open up, which should significantly alleviate the crowd...and keep the hipsters where they belong.
They have a lot of really cool specialty items that you might want to check out.
