permission to leave work early

the weekend plans post made me think - do u guys need permission at work to leave early?

I dont need permission, I just need to let people know I am going but I can go when I want to. If I still have work to do and I must leave early I just log in back from home to finish whatever I need plus I am always available via email

I'm a receptionist, so not only do I have to get permission, but also coverage. Boooooooo.

Re: permission to leave work early

I mean.. not only do I have to ask for permission.. but I also have to give them the reason WHY I need to leave early.

Even when I need to take a PERSONAL DAY, they make you tell them what it's for.

This company is stupid.

Re: permission to leave work early

our mailroom guy told us that they might leave at 3... so hopefully that means we all are... idk.

ETA: yes we do need permission... but 2 of the big bosses are out today so i feel like most of us will be out of here by about 4

Re: permission to leave work early

I mostly just tell my boss that I'm leaving early and he says ok. Out of respect though I do ask but he never denys me it.

Yes, I need permission. . . . it's so annoying and they like us to make up the time on our lunch

Re: permission to leave work early

I usually make my own hours but if I need to leave early on a day that I normally stay late I just let my boss know.

Re: permission to leave work early

Nope, I just make sure I have no meetings and nothing happening and then I can leave whenever. Nobody really says anything as long as the work is done.

Re: permission to leave work early

At my old job, I left whenever I wanted. My boss trusted that when I felt I was done with work, I was done. He ruled in that capacity.
