random BC question i was thinking about ...

So BC pills say they're 99.99% effective (pretty much same as condoms) ... but can you still get prego while on the pill? If not, why is that statistic there? why not say they're 100% effective?

And no, i'm not pregnant, nor do i think i might be

Re: random BC question i was thinking about ...

They say 99.99% so they don't get sued for saying 100%. You can get pregnant on BC, but it's mostly if you do not use it correctly (e.g., taking antibiotics).

Mostly. But not always. My co-worker had the interuterine BC or whatever it's called- IUD. She was on it for 3 months when she got pregnant with her darling Amanda.

A good friend of mine was on Mirena (sp?) and she did get pregnant on it ...... has a gorgeous son now.....

That was incentive enough for me NOT to go on it!!

Re: random BC question i was thinking about ...

one of my co-workers got pregnant while on the pill. she had missed a couple of days, doubled up like the instructions say, and ... she has an 8 year old!

i was NEVER good with taking it. I never missed more than 1 day at a time, but i did miss a day quite frequently (like at least a few times a month). i also never took it at the same time every day. never had a problem though.

Re: random BC question i was thinking about ...

One of my coworkers conceived both her children on the pill. One of my sisters conceived 7 times on birth control!! She has 3 children and had 4 miscarriages, all using BC. Her and her husband have never 'tried' to conceive. So I believe nothing is 100% ever. Always be careful until you are ready.

I'm on the NuvaRing and one of my BM decided to inform me that she was on the same thing when she conceived her daughter. Eep!

Re: random BC question i was thinking about ...

mostly i think its because you're supposed to take the pill the same time everyday.

and people dont.

and then they skip.

etc. etc.

it's def not 100%.

it's 99.3% WITH perfect use.

i know they publish the numbers for with 'usual use'. it's more like 80% for most people i think.

... again most people = people on the whole who don't follow instructions to a T.

Re: random BC question i was thinking about ...

My friend's wife got pregnant on NuvaRing. Honeymoon baby and all.

Alls well that ends well, though. They now have two sons.
