Strapless v. Spaghetti Straps the day of
I had my second fitting last night and I am trying to decide between wearing my dress strapless or with the straps. All along I figured I would get detachable straps wearing it strapless for the ceremony and pics and attaching the straps for the dancing if the strapless bothered me at all.One of BMs was with me and she said that I looked VERY incomfortable without the straps and that it looked good either way. Now I m a little torn.
I love the way it looks strapless, but I don't want an album full of pics in which I look uncomfortable. Did anyone have problems with strapless, especially when the dress was bustled. It did feel like the weight of the dress was pulling me down.
Looking for some words of wisdom from those who have been there

I wore a strapless dress and I wore a lace bolero over it all night. I was very comfortable all night and wouldn't have changed a thing.

A properly fitted strapless dress should not be uncomfortable. In any case, a strapess dress should fit exactly as snugly as a spagetti strap dress. Otherwise, the straps will 'dig in' on your shoulders, destroying the look of the dress.
On a dress that is strapless/spagetti strapped - the bodice should hug you tightly to keep the whole thing up.

I am small on top and I didn't have a problem with the dress pulling down.

I know someone who my 'accident' lost too much weight before the wedding from stress, and the dress had to be safety pinned b/c it was 'falling off'... But it really shouldn't be falling off.

I had detachable straps for my dress for the same reason, but I never wore them. My strapless gown was sooo comfy and it didn't budge. Make sure they alter it so that the bodice is snug.

I was worried about it but had no problem but during my fitting I tried everything to make sure I wouldn't pop out or it fall down. With the right corset/bra, I was held in and it didn't fall at all. The bought these weight things too that tuck into your bra that are suppose to help (wire covered in material). Actually, my mom's boss (male?!?!) actually said I was the only female wearing strapless he never caught pulling her dress up. He said I looked so comfortable in it. So I guess mine was fitted properly. The only issue I had was that bulge when I sat - I felt like I was spilling out a little too much and I think it was more because of the corset pushing up when I sat. I didn't notice it that night but I see it in pictures.

Alina, I have heard that same horror story from a few friends
I am very petite, and I think part of my problem was that the dress was loose in the bodice at my waist. Actually when my friend commented that I looked uncomfortable when the straps were tucked in, I said that it felt strange at my waist and when I actually pinched the material together, the seamstress was surprised and started pinning away. So maybe after the bodice issue is taken care of I will feel more comfortable.
But then the seamstress told me that the straps made me look TALLER. Has anyone ever heard that before? I am five nothin' so the idea of appearing taller is an attractive one. Not sure how well it will work when I am standing next to Keith, who is six foot tall.
Six weeks left. Time to start driving myself insane

Becky when is your last fitting? It should be close to the wedding day to make sure that the dress fits right. Also, I went to the wedding of the bride with 'falling off' dress and had she not told me about this fact after the wedding, I would not have known!!!

Alina, it is June 19. About two weeks before. I wanted to have enough time for last minute adjustments if necessary. Do you think that it should be closer to the date?

Nah, keep it the 19th, I think. My last one is supposed to be on the 21st, but I there is one before on the 14th. So if the 19th doesn't go well and you need more fixing, there is still time. Are you also taking it to a cleaner/presser or the alterations people will do that for you?

Becky, I had the same problem and I went with the straps. I just felt more comfortable (you can see the straps a little on my profile pic). I felt that if I was more comfortable, I would have a better time -no regrets on my decision.

I wore strapless, and I didn't have any problems. If the dress is altered properly, you shouldn't have any problems.

Re: Strapless v. Spaghetti Straps the day of
I also wore a strapless and honestly, if I had to do it again, I might have opted to do straps. That's just me. My dress was beautiful and just fine, but I felt as though it wasn't as tight as I had wanted it around my bust and my seamstress wouldn't make it tighter because she said it makes the skin under your arms buldge.

Re: Strapless v. Spaghetti Straps the day of
I couldn't do strapless. Have them put in and you can always tuck them in if you want to go 'bare'Nothing looks worse in a video and to your guests than a bride who is constantly pulling up her dress! My stepmom went to a wedding where the bride was visibly uncomfortable and pulled up her dress the entire reception! I wore a strapless dress once when I was 13 to a formal dance and I did the same thing the entire dance.

Re: Strapless v. Spaghetti Straps the day of
Thank you all for your opinions.Keith actually told me the other night that he does NOT like strapless dresses. Whaaaat
He thinks they look strange. While there my be an argument that my FH is a bit of a freak, this makes my decision a little easier. So, I think I will stick with the straps.
Cira, that pic in your profile is amazing. I hope I look half as beautiful on my wedding day
