Wake Etiquette question!

Ok, so tonight I am going to the wake of my coworker's mother who passed away on Sunday.

DH and I have never met her before. We haven't been to any wakes for non-relatives or people we've never met. So, whats the protocol on this? Is it inappropriate for us to approach and/or pray at the casket? Is it expected of us to approach? Do we bring a card?

This is probably a silly question, but I dont want us to embarass ourselves.

Thanks!

Re: Wake Etiquette question!

I've never brought a card to a wake, not even a mass card, but definitely approach the casket and pray.

If it's an Italian wake, don't approach the casket until the closest relative (I think!) has gone up and prayed. I learned that the hard way.
