What's the better Italy itinerary?
DH and I only have 4 days there .... neither of us has ever been. We realize that 4 days is really not much time to explore, but we're ok with that ... we just want a taste of it since 4 days is the most we can do right now
Should we go to Rome for 2 days, Florence (Pisa) for one day, and Venice for one day? We would fly in to Rome, and out of Venice if we did this route.
or Rome for 2 days and Florence / Pisa for 2 days. We would fly round-trip from Rome if we went this route.
The first option (with Venice) is about $100 more expensive and we'd spend about the same amount of time on trains to / from the diff cities.
BUT is 1 day really enough in Florence and Venice or are we shoving waaaay too much into the schedule?
I should also repeat that we MAY go back to italy again in the future, but probably not for a while (we'd want to visit other countries first)
Thanks

Re: What's the better Italy itinerary?
I'd do 2 days in Rome and 2 days in Florence. That's less hectic and if you plan right you can see a decent amount in that time.

Re: What's the better Italy itinerary?
i'd do rome for 4
do rome 2 and florence 2- spend 1 day in florence visiting the duomo etc and 1 day in tuscany. i never went to pisa but i highly suggest siena & montulpulciano. venice, although small is too cumbersome to add into that.

Re: What's the better Italy itinerary?
i think we 'need' to go to Pisa .... gotta take that pic of ourselves supporting the tower
i'm not entirely sure if i care about Florence too much past that (though that could be because i just started researching)

2 days in Rome and 2 days in Florence. 1 day in each Florence/Venice would not be enough time and from Venice it really takes a while to get back to Rome. IMO there isn't enough to do in Pisa to take up a full day. Florence was amazing, honestly it was my favorite city and Rome came in a close second. Lots of history and culture in both!!

Thanks - we wouldn't be taking the train back from Venice to Rome though (just fly out of the venice airport). Does that change anything or do you still think we should stick wtih Rome & Florence only?

If you had more time I would say yes, but 1 day in each Florence and Venice is def not enough. I would save one or the other for when you have more time. There is sooo much to see in Rome and Florence you will be glad you spent two days in each.

Re: What's the better Italy itinerary?
i would also do 4 in rome but i know you want to see more than just rome...venice is beautiful but honestly i liked it 20 times better at night and since most of your time will be during the day there i would skip it. its someplace to go once or twice if you had more time but i wouldnt put it into a 4 day italy trip.so 2 days rome and 2 florence.
just got back from italy a month ago, if you have any questions, just ask...we did venice, 2 nights, rome, 3 nights, positano on the amalfi coast, 4 nights

Re: What's the better Italy itinerary?
Enjoy Florence!! Make sure you climb the Duomo (its a church) which you can't do on a sunday b/c they have mass. Florence is very romantic. Venice has a reputation for feeling a little tourist-trappy, so be prepared for the crowds, but make sure you see it at night, its a completely different feeling. :)

Re: What's the better Italy itinerary?
I would defintiely do two days in Rome and 2 days in Florence. I don't think Venice is worth going out of your way to see. Go next time on a longer trip. As for Pisa - there's nothing there except the tower. I suggest you go on the 'Best of Tuscany' one day tour (you can find it on trip advisor). I hate tours in general but this one was GREAT! Got to see Pisa without spending the whole day/much effort there (which wouldn't have been worth it) amongst a bunch of other wonderful Tuscan stops. Enjoy!

I can't rem 100% what we paid - but I thought the trip was worth whatever it was we spent!! Is the 115 EUR or USD? You get a full day tour (multiple parts of Tuscany) and lunch.
