When do you stay in a hotel for a wedding?

How long is too long of a drive that you opt to stay in a hotel? Dh & I are having a bit of a debate on this for a friends wedding next month... Its in NJ, 1 1/2 hr ride...

*Assuming its a night wedding*

Re: When do you stay in a hotel for a wedding?

Anything that's over an hour and half. If the price is right for the hotel is also a factor. We had friends who got married in NJ and we stayed in a hotel because it's a pain to drive back.

Anything over 2 hours I would, but otherwise I would just go home.

Re: When do you stay in a hotel for a wedding?

Well if it's over an hour away and there's not shuttle buses back to my neighborhood, then I'm staying at a hotel. I want to drink and party.

Re: When do you stay in a hotel for a wedding?

usually always stay so we can drink and not have to drive.

the only times we don't usually stay is if its near DH's parents house out in suffolk and can just take a cab back to their house.

Yea, we wont know alot of people at this wedding and the other couple that is trying to get us to room with them isnt our 'cup of tea' LOL so DH is pretty against this room idea...

Re: When do you stay in a hotel for a wedding?

Depends on the situation. One of usually just doesn't drink if it's less than 2 hours.

However DH is going to be Best Man at a wedding in October and it's 1 hour away and we are splurging for a hotel so we can just relax and enjoy without worrying about traffic or driving.

Re: When do you stay in a hotel for a wedding?

i'm a cheapa$$ so i'd probably drive back unless it's 2+ hours away. Or if i could make a mini-vacation out if it (if it were somewhere nice)

Re: When do you stay in a hotel for a wedding?

for me it also depends on what time the wedding is. . like if it's 1 1/2 away but is an earlier wedding I'd probably come home but if it ended at midnight or something no way I'm driving!

also depends on
- price of hotel
- if I want to hang around with all the other guests. .

Re: When do you stay in a hotel for a wedding?

It depends on the circumstances but we are pretty liberal about staying in hotels because we would prefer not to drive back after a wedding...last year we stayed at a hotel for a wedding only 30 minutes away. The wedding was on a Saturday night, the hotel had shuttle service and it was a good price.. We wanted to enjoy the wedding and drink rather than one of us not drinking so we can drive home.

If it was a Sunday wedding, we probably wouldn't have stayed at a hotel unless we were taking Monday off.

Re: When do you stay in a hotel for a wedding?

If its generally over the bridge we stay over. NJ always! We drive to and from NJ all the time and it can be a brutal ride, plus you want to be able to drink. Also usually OOT weddings means lots of friends in the hotels and lots of fun.

But if its a daytime wedding you could probably come back. If its night, stay over.
