I would just tell Franky that your Mom called and dropped a bomb ob you and told you not to say anything and you don't want to lie or keep a secret from him and just tell him. Who cares what your MIL may think??? This is your husband and his father.
I agree. I don't think there is a reason to call MIL and tell her you're telling him.

Re: WWYD?
I was just about to say, I feel like she intentionally put you in this position, but I don't know if it's a test or if she just doesn't want to be the bearer of bad news and is therefore putting it on you. Personally, I wouldn't even call her and tell her that I was going to tell my DH- she gave you this information and you can choose to do what you'd like with it. I think it's WRONG to make him think he's coming over for a fun, family dinner just to drop a bomb on him. At least she should've told him 'Come over for dinner, we need to talk about something a little difficult and I'd rather not discuss it over the phone.' Again, I'm sorry she put this on you. But please, tell your DH asap.

Re: WWYD?
Ok thanks Ang! I think I'm going to do that. I actually called my dad and asked him what he would do and he told me the same thing. I just called and no one answered but hopefully she'll call me back. Thanks everyone else for the advice. This might be one of the hardest things I've had to go through with DH. Unfortunately I've been through cancer with a parent (mom's a breast cancer survivor).

Re: WWYD?
I think this is a really, really tough scenario and I'm not sure that there is one answer that would be correct 100% of the time. However, I would tell my DH.

Re: WWYD?
I just can't see myself keeping something that serious from my DH. I understand the reasoning behind your MIL, but I know if roles were reversed I would want my DH to tell me.

Re: WWYD?
just to be clear on why you should call your MIL... its just beating around the bush if you dont... she needs to know what she did was wrong... and shes the one that needs to tell Franky...if im going to hear that one of my parents is sick i want it to come from my other parent not my husband...
