08.31.08 My AMAZING Wedding! Super long review: Riviera, Flower Michele, Kornfeld Studios, LI Sound and Lots More! TONS of Pics!!!

LIWeddings!A+++++
I love this website! I’m so glad I found it, it helped me throughout the process and gave me a lot of great ideas and helpful tips. I only wish I had discovered it sooner! Thanks to everyone for your helpful advice and inspiration along the way!

Starting from the Beginning….

Engagement Party: Corbin and Reynolds in Long BeachA
They did a fabulous job at C&R, the food was great and presented so beautifully. The party room is adorable and private with a nice window into their wine cellar- so cute! They were very accommodating allowing us to play our own music and were flexible throughout. The only thing was that they tried to bill us for the guests drinks after we had agreed on an open bar for house beer and wine and a tab for all other drinks, which I thought was kind of sketchy. My mom pointed out to the manager that we had already arranged the open bar and were only paying the tab on the mixed drinks and they fixed it right away. We had planned on going to the beach afterward since its only a few blocks down but since everyone was dressed up, we decided to go back to my parents house with some close family and friends and open gifts and have a BBQ. It was a great way to kick off our engagement.

Save the Date Magnets: DIY - A
This was a fun project that we did ourselves. We just used magnet paper and printed directly onto the sheet. It was a little time consuming only because we had to play around with sizes and magnet paper and the envelopes until we got it right, but it was worth the time and we didn’t have much else to do at that point. I got the idea for the design from a website, I don’t remember which one and basically tried to recreate it. We then used pictures that we took from our vacation in Europe and put the wedding date in each photo. We sent them out almost a year early and it was great to go to our friends and family’s houses to see our STD on their refrigerators! Everyone thought they were very cute.

Pre-Wedding Hotel Mailer: DIY – A+
This might have been somewhat anal of us but we wanted our guests to have all the information they needed to book the rooms at our discounted rate. We sent a letter along with the codes they need to book the special rate a couple of months before sending the invites. Most of the guests were so excited about them because in the letter, we explained the details of the weekend and the information about the hotel, which would have been too complicated to include in the invitations. See my review of the hotel to see why it was important! In the end, they were so easy to do and it made people anticipate the wedding invites, so I’m glad we did them

Bridal Gown: James Clifford (Designer) Bridal Reflections in Massapequa (Salon) B+
Bridal Reflections came highly recommended through a friend. Our saleswoman was very knowledgeable and seemed to genuinely care that I found the best dress for me. After trying on dozens of dresses, I kept coming back to the same one. We felt somewhat pressured to make a decision since I was going away for a couple of weeks so we decided on the James Clifford I had eyed all along. In the end I probably could have waited until after my vacation but I doubt it would have made a difference. I loved the dress and they assured me that the things I was worried about would be fixed during alterations.
When it came time for alterations, I was still unhappy with the top of the dress. The torso of the dress was too long on me and I felt it was unflattering. The first seamstress pretty much told me there was nothing they could do which I was very unhappy about. I called up BR again to and they were very understanding and made another appointment for a different seamstress to look at the dress. They assured me they didn’t want me to be uncomfortable. The second seamstress was able to take away only ¼ inch and it made a huge difference. I felt so much more comfortable. The women who worked there were very understanding and helpful throughout, you just have to be vocal about what you want. On my wedding day, I didn’t even think twice about those things I was worried about. I got so many compliments on my dress and my DH loved it so I knew I made the right choice!

Hair Comb: Barron’s Tri County – A
We went to Tri County on a Saturday which was a mistake because it was very crowded and Barron’s was overwhelmed with other brides to be but we finally picked a piece and the salespeople were very kind and helpful. One of the flowers did break off during my hair trial but it was an easy fix for my mom and she reinforced the other flowers as well. I’d recommend everyone doing this anyway, you never know!

Veil: Occansey Designs http://www.occanseydesigns.com/ - A
I bought my veil online and saved sooooo much money. I wasn’t even sure I wanted a veil so something simple and unobtrusive was what I wanted. After shopping at very few boutiques, I had an idea of what would be good for me so I emailed Occansey a few times and decided on a design. It came in less time than they said and it was exactly right. At first it wasn’t what I had pictured but when I put it on, it was just what I wanted. Simple and easy to take off during the party. I would suggest that if you buy a veil online to have a good idea about the cut, style, color and overall design first.

Shoes: Nina (Brand) Bridal Shoes Boutique in Carle Place (Store) – A
The salespeople at Bridal Shoe Boutique were so helpful and spent a lot of time with me and my mother helping us find shoes that we would be comfortable. We are very picky about our shoes and the people in the store spent a lot of time with us and were so knowledgeable. We loved our shoes! The store gives a discount for bridal party members who shop there and also dyes the shoes after the wedding too.

Bridesmaid Dresses: Alfred Angelo Styles: Various Color: Blue Jay/Indigo (Dresses) RK Bridal (Store) – A
I loved the fact that RK was easy to deal with and didn’t cause me a huge headache. They really know what they are doing and whenever I called up with a bunch of questions, they were very helpful. The girls all live all over the country so not having them go to a salon and pay a ton of money was important. Once I figured out how to fill out the forms, ordering the dresses was easy. They came in early and I just went down there and picked them up – no shipping or tax since I picked up in the store and I shipped them out myself. We saved a lot of money and it was so easy! The hardest part was picking the right size though. A few of the girls had to have alterations that cost some more money after but in the end the dresses looked so great together!

Bridesmaid Shoes: Target.com – A
This was a pain since so many dyables cost at least $50 then to have to pay to dye them and do all that extra work just wasn’t worth it. I tried to find navy blue shoes online but there were so few that were affordable. I didn’t want my BMs to pay a lot for shoes especially if they weren’t going to wear them again. I did find a cheap pair on Target.com (I think they were less than $20), unfortunately they only had one size left in Navy. We decided to go with that shoe in white instead and I have to say I think I like it better than the Navy. It was very summery and super cheap!

Flower Girl Dress: Flowergirldres4u.com – A++
Someone on LIW (sorry I don’t remember who!) had recommended this website for dresses for infants and I think even suggested this dress for me. It was perfect! So hard to find dresses for babies at that age and even harder to find dresses with blue!! My flower baby looked soooo cute in it – when she wasn’t trying to eat it, which was still so cute!

Bridesmaid Jewelry: Me and My Mom but mostly her – A++
Ok she gets an A+ because she’s my mom but she is also a budding jewelry designer so we had to do the jewelry ourselves. They came out great and were easy and fun to do. The girls loved them and were so impressed it was hand made. Everything used to make the jewelry is Swarovsky Chrystal and Pearl and Silver Chain. FM me if you’d like her info!

Bridal Party Gifts: Various – A
This was fun to run around getting things for everyone. Everyone loved their gifts which made the effort even more worth it. For the girls, I filled up the canvas totes I got from Old Navy. I included blue flip flops (also from Old Navy – 2 for $5), the jewelry we made in a cute little pillow box I found at Paper Presentation for $1, lotions and soaps from Bath and Body Works, tissues, nail files, small vases I had made in pottery class, and a small bottle Starbucks Liquor. My sister, the MOH also got a monogrammed jewelry box from Pottery Barn. I made the thank you cards for everyone with some left over invitation paper and scrapbook decorations I bought from AC Moore.

My flower girl is only 4 months old so we didn’t do much, but I had a onesie personalized with her name on the front and the title “Flower Baby” on the back since that’s what we’ve been calling her. Hopefully it makes for a nice keepsake.

This is the back:

For the boys, we found drink mixers at Bed Bath and Beyond that have different cocktail recipes on the side, you turn it to the drink you want and mix away! We put it in a tin (from AC Moore) with a bottle of Gin and Vodka as well as a monogrammed money clip from Pottery Barn.

Engraved money clip

For my parents, we got a Marriott gift card and for DHs mom, we got a spa gift card. The cards are from Papyrus.

MIL’s gift cert is in this gift card holder which I found at the Container Store:

Grooms and GM tuxes: Men’s Warehouse – B+
We went to the Men’s Warehouse in Forest Hills which was close to where we live. Since the GM live all over, we figured MW would be easiest. It was great b/c they can all go to their local store to try on, pick up and return – easy! I only give a B+ because there were issues with the measuring and they forgot to put my dads shoes in his bag and he had to run out on the morning of the wedding to get them. Three of them had sleeves or pants that were too long/short - but those were easily fixed at the store. This was defiantly the easiest way to go though since they could drop off and pick up at any location.

Dance Lessons: John @ Ballroom Dance LI A++
At first FH didn’t want to take lessons, but I felt we were really awkward together and I knew I wasn’t comfortable dancing with him. He’s so much taller than me! Anyway I convinced him to try one lesson and in the end, he was more enthusiastic about it than me! John was great to work with, he was patient and very good at explaining all the steps to us. We had a great time taking lessons and it was a great way to be active while enjoying some time alone together. Everyone thought the dance was very nice too.

Wedding Registries: Macy’s and Crate and Barrel – A
Both stores were great to us when we went in to register and are easily accessible online. Macy’s also offers a lot of extras from the vendors if you register for a certain amount of things and if those things are purchased for you which is pretty cool. Both offer a 10% completion discount and if you have a Macy’s card you earn cash back on purchases that others make off your registry and purchases that you make so we used that extra money and the 10% off to spend very little to complete the registry!

Paper Presentation A++
I have to briefly mention Paper Presentation on 18th Street since I used them for pretty much all my DIY projects. They have everything from pocket folds to photo corners to stamps and craft supplies. They also do custom invites and are an invitation vendor for several companies. Love this place!!

Invitations: DIY – A++
This was a huge undertaking but soooo worth it! We wanted to use the same design motif throughout the rest of the wedding so it was important to me that the invites be just what we wanted. With the help of my very good friend who is a graphic designer we were able to put together the perfect invitation for us. I got the stamps on zazzle.com mostly because I was concerned about having to use ugly stamps due to the weight and shape of the invites and with a coupon code, it didn’t cost too much more money. Everyone I spoke to looooved the invites which made all the time and work worth it. In the end I think we also saved a lot of money which is another huge plus.

Ketubah – KetubahKetubah.com – Amy Fagin (Artist) – Village Framer in RVC (Framer) A+
I absolutely love this Ketubah, I think its so beautiful and will always look good in whatever room we put it in. The people at KetubahKetubah.com were great and very helpful throughout the process of personalizing and ordering the ketubah which can be confusing.

John (I think is his name) from the Village Framer was very helpful and knowledgeable while we went through the many options for framing. His work is beautiful and I would defiantly recommend him for any photos or artwork that needs framing.

Bridal Shower: Cowesett Inn in West Warwick, Rhode Island – A+
My MIL hosted a beautiful shower for me in Rhode Island were DH’s family all live. This was a great way to incorporate his family members who weren’t able to travel to NY for the wedding. Though a lot of my girlfriends and some family couldn’t make it, those who did all stayed with us in a hotel on the water. We spent the weekend on the Beach and hanging out in Newport. We had a lovely brunch and played a few games. We did a “honeymooners” type game where as each person’s present was opened they read a question that DH had previously answered. I answered and then they read how DH responded – it was funny and kept the present opening part more interesting. I did really bad, but it was still fun. Then we also played a “what’s in your purse” scavenger hunt. It was great!

Bachelor/Bachelorette Party: - A+
The Friday before the wedding, my sister/MOH went to Bliss Spa and endulged all afternoon in their amazing locker and waiting room area. We had the deep sea detox wrap which was also pretty amazing. It was so nice and relaxing to do right before the hectic weekend started – I highly recommend doing this before the wedding!!

Me eating my tea and brownies in the waiting room:

My sister using the cucumbers for eating as an eyemask

We then met up with the Bridal Party for dinner at Essex which was delicious! The food and service was great.

Afterwards we went to a nearby bar where we had the whole upstairs to ourselves and hung out and played with the various props my sister brought. My Bridal Party was amazing and my sister put so much thought into the night. We had a great time but it was exhausting to do right before the Rehearsal Dinner the next day. Since a lot of the BP was from OOT, it had to be that night though and we still had a great time!

Rehearsal Dinner: Palmer’s American Grille in Farmingdale –
DH and I are huge theatre dorks – we started dating while working on a show. We had to incorporate this into our wedding somehow but we didn’t want our reception to be too cheesey. When we picked the “music room” at Palmers, we knew that a classy theatre theme would fit in.

Rehearsal Dinner Invites: DIY - A
I created these invites to look like a ticket which I modeled off of something I saw in a storefront. We also included these maps for the OOT guests.

Rehearsal Dinner Escort Cards and Table Numbers: DIY - A
Keeping with the theatre theme, we named each table after a Broadway Theatre and used these vintage posters as the table number. We then used the same photo for each person’s escort card to direct them to the right table.

Rehearsal Dinner Favor: DIY Mix CDs - A
Our RD theme is theatre/music so it was a perfect fit to give out mix CDs of our favorite songs. It was super cheap and easy to do

OOT Guest Welcome Boxes: DIY A
We decided pretty late in the game to do welcome boxes instead of goodbye boxes. I figured people would appreciate it more and it would get them excited for the wedding. I bought the boxes online at buygiftbox.com (http://www.buygiftbox.com/gablebox.htm) and made the tags and label myself. Be careful what size you buy though, mine were a little smaller than I would have liked! It wasn’t too hard to do and it gave me something to focus on two weeks before the wedding when I had finished all the other projects.

Guest Hotel: Courtyard Marriott Republic Airport in Farmingdale –
Before the Wedding
D
Dealing with this hotel before the event was a huge headache! Since they had only been open a few months when we started to look for hotels, we chalked it up to inexperience. After a few more months had gone by and we were already booked we them, we realized the staff was not quite competent. We also wound up working with 3 or 4 different sales managers – they kept leaving which was frustrating, we never knew who to contact. Some of the sales managers we dealt with honestly did try to their best when dealing with us and we appreciated it. The problem was mostly in the way their computer system books rooms for large parties. They are only allowed 10 at a time so when the 11th person calls to book, rather than opening up another 10 rooms automatically, they are told that our party is full and can not use the discount rate. Personally I felt this was totally ridiculous that they would turn away business not to mention our guests!! They also made us use these ridiculously long codes for each kind of room in order to apply the discount. Booking rooms proved very difficult for some of our older and less technologically savvy guests. The only good things about the hotel and the reasons we booked there in the first place was that they had a banquet room we used for Brunch the morning after, the hotel is new and spacious with an indoor pool and they offered a free shuttle to the Riviera for our guests BUT the shuttle is only a 7 person van so its not exactly spacious and luxurious.
That weekend B+
They were much better by the time the weekend came around. The hotel is really beautiful and the staff was helpful despite their lack of information. Our biggest problem was the vendors trying to find us in the hotel. The florist, makeup artists, and photo/videographers were all told they couldn’t find me in the system. They even sent my makeup artist to the suite hotel across the street for some reason. Ridiculous! Anyway besides that the hotel was fine. The shuttle was very convenient for the guests, taking them to the Riviera and also to the Dave and Busters nearby and Train Stations.

Goodbye Brunch: Marriott Banquet Room and Catering B
We wanted to use the catering room at the hotel and in order to do so we had to use their catering service. It was a nice chance to say goodbye to folks before they left for the weekend but the food and service left something to be desired, which really wasn’t surprising.

Everyone got a kick out of my personalized sweatshirt

DAY OF:

Weather A+++++++++++++++++
Wow did we luck out with the weather. 80 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. I seriously think it was the most beautiful day of the summer. But I’m biased ?. It was a problem for photos at the Vanderbilt b/c the sun was too bright to be in for fear of washing out faces and casting bad shadows but our photographers knew what they were doing. The sunset was timed perfectly setting as we were taking pictures after the ceremony. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day!

Hair: Dee and the girls at Defusion Salon in Rockville Center A-
Dee has been doing my hair for a few years now and she’s great! I loved how all our hair came out unfortunately it did not last long. In retrospect we should have had them come to the hotel to do the hair too but hindsight is 20/20. Maybe that would have helped but after the wind, dancing and sitting in a limo, the curls were droopy and it started to look messy. I’m not sure what else we could have done though, it was a long day. I recommend having the stylists come to you and use as much hairspray as possible!!

Makeup: Fresh Face Forward A+
Stacey was great! She was on time and worked quickly. She did just what everyone asked for and I think we looked hot!!

Here’s a good one of the makeup although I think I’m not wearing any lipstick in this one:

Pre-Wedding Photos: Vanderbilt Mansion A+++
This site is so beautiful and we loved the how hands on they were with us when booking the mansion for pictures. The woman there was so sweet and helpful and obviously had a lot of experience with weddings. They let us spend a little extra time there and they just let us walk around on our own. I thought we’d have to stick to a tighter schedule but it wasn’t a problem at all. The view and area for photos is just so beautiful! There were some people touring the area taking pictures of us which was weird but sort of fun too!

Ceremony/Reception: The Riviera
Pre Wedding: -
A
We loved working with the staff, they were great and so helpful answering all our questions and keeping us calm. The people we worked with there were always so honest with us and didn’t give us the catering hall salesperson speech we got from almost every other place we went. Everyone there has a great attitude and had no problems spending lots of time sitting and chatting with us at our meetings.
Day Of - A+++
The day of the wedding the staff was great as well. The service was great, the food was amazing and the setting was perfect. My one complaint is that since we were the second party in there that day, there was some chaos about where to be and when when we first arrived and there was not enough control over where guests should be entering from and when. After that though, everything was smooth sailing. There was tons of food and everything was delicious. They remembered all the special requests we had made from our meetings and made our day truly special. I would highly recommend them for the beautiful location, great food and service and not to mention value!

Harpist: Elisa Keena - A+
Elisa is talented and so easy to work with! She even learned several songs that we requested. Her music added so much to the ambience of the day!

Officiant: Rabbi Renee Feller - A++++++++
I found Rabbi Renee’s name on this website and I’m so glad we met with her. She is incredibly sweet and honestly wants the ceremony to reflect the personality of the couple. She is easily accessible and knowledgeable. We met several times leading up to the wedding day and she kept us at ease the whole time. She put together a personal and incredibly beautiful ceremony after only meeting with us a few different times and to top it off, she’s such a sweetheart. At the party I got so many compliments about the ceremony and about Rabbi Renee. Our guests loved how personal the ceremony was and how lighthearted the Rabbi was. I’m very happy we had her to make our wedding even more special!! We loved working with Rabbi Renee!

Limo: Royalty Limo - A+++
We knew right away we wanted to book with Royalty. Their showroom was sooo nice and we got such a better vibe from the people who worked there than some of the other limo companies we went to. We got two regular stretch limos and a pick up at the end of the night. They were reasonably priced and service was excellent. They even took us through the McDonald’s drive through for my starving Bridal Party which was a fun detour!!

Photographer/Videographer: Kornfeld Studios in Rockville Center – A+
We booked our photo/videographers early on and we went with Kornfeld because we had always been impressed with their work. They are so sweet and easy to get along with and really go the extra mile for their clients. I got nervous about not having looked around for photographers longer but in the end, I love the proofs and hopefully the process of choosing an album will be an easy one. Video is pending…

DJ: Long Island Sound - A
These guys were so professional and easy to work with right from day one. They knew exactly what to do and what questions to ask so that we’d have the kind of party we imagined. We filled out all the request songs and they actually played almost all of the songs unfortunately it was usually while we were busy and couldn’t dance. A lot of guests came up to us and said how much fun they had and how much they enjoyed the party and the dancing so I can give that credit to our DJ.

Florist: Flower Michele - A+++
Jon was soooo great to work with. He’s so easy going and really knows what he’s talking about. He was honest with us when he thought our ideas wouldn’t work instead of having something go wrong on the day of. The flowers were so beautiful and really pulled together all our visions of our wedding day. I was I highly recommend Flower Michele!

Cake: Black Forest Bakery - A++
This is the Bakery for the Riviera so the cake was included in the price for the guests so I guess you wouldn’t expect too much. Boy we were wrong! The staff from The Black Forest Bakery were easy to deal with and did just what we asked for. The cake was beautiful and absolutely delicious!! It was yellow cake with half cannoli cream and half chocolate mousse filling. They used buttercream frosting which I was worried would look messy but it didn’t! The frosting was an off white color with white swirls around the top of each layer and white beads around the bottom – it wound up matching my dress perfectly which was a great but we didn’t necessarily plan for that!! It was sooo delicious – we can’t wait to eat it again on our first anniversary!!

The Details: Mostly DIY unless otherwise noted

Card Box
I bought the box sans the slot at Paper Presentation for about $20 and I thought it would be perfect. Adding the slot was a bit difficult but the anal-retentive tendencies of my dad came through and he did a great job cutting that into the box without tearing the fabric. Yay Dad! I then added a silk Hydrangea from Michael’s to bring in the blue color and our flowers. I wanted to put our names on it somehow but I didn’t know how – Maybe I should have put a sign b/c a lot of people didn’ tknow to put their cards in there. My grandparents friends thought it was to tip the wait staff! LOL!

Programs
We got the paper pre drilled and scored from Paper Presentation. Designing and putting them together was no problem

Menus
We used leftover cardstock from the invites to create the menus. Nothing too fancy, but did the job!

Escort Cards
The Bronze backing were pre cut and scored from Paper Presentation. I just stapled the ribbon that we used for the programs to the card and then taped the other layer on top. Easy to do once we figured out the seating arrangement (which is a whole other story!)
IMG]http://lh6.ggpht.com/vzimmer1/SLyQKkY3CRI/AAAAAAAAJCQ/RgibOVFqfqE/s512/IMG_0002.JPG'>

Photo Cards
I just printed out these little cardstock business cards to give people the information on the shutterfly.com photo-sharing site we created. It was quick and easy to make them and the website is a great way for everyone to upload and download each others pictures.

Guest Book
I bought a blue scrapbook and just pasted some baby photos and pics of us together to the pages and bought some nice pens for the guests to use.

Favors: Various
Doing these was time consuming but in the end, it was worth it. I really wanted to have a bow or ribbon to make the box look like a gift but I also wanted our names to be visible and for the box to be opened and closed without making a mess. The design worked out perfectly! I bought the boxes from __ and used a ribbon punch to make slits in the top of the cover. I then threaded some brown ribbon through to make a bow and made the labels on sticker paper. The boxes were stuffed with tea light holders and candles from Ikea and a matchbook with our names and date from efavormart.com.

Photos of Parents and Grandparents Weddings
I knew I wanted to honor our parents and Grandparents’ weddings in someway. I bought this vintage window pane from eBay and then gathered wedding photos from our families. I made copies and had them enlarged to be about the size of each pane of glass. I used clear photo corners to ahere them and voila! I’m happy with how it came out and now I’ll keep it in our home.

HONEYMOON

Travel Agent: Bruno Romano at Ultimate Cruise Planning Specialists - A
Bruno was great to work with and always got back to me with answers to my questions in a timely manner. It was great to have someone else to deal with the cruiseline while we were busy planning the wedding. Bruno is so sweet. He sent us off on our trip with lots of little gifts including a generous gift card to CVS which we defiantly used! He tried to upgrade our room too unfortunately the cruise was too booked and we had to make due with our inside cabin.

Cruise: Celebrity Cruiselines Cruise to Mediterranean - A+++++++++
First some advice. DO NOT wait 2.5 weeks after the wedding to go on your honeymoon!! Ahh it was so hard going back to work for so long and having to explain to EVERYONE why you weren’t on the honeymoon. We decided to wait for this specific cruise since we knew we wanted to go to all these ports. The worst part was waiting for the time to pass but it was worth the wait.

The trip was absolutely incredible. I don’t know how we’ll ever be able to top it. It was 10 nights stopping in Rome, Mykonos, Rhodes, Santorini, Istanbul, Kusadasi, Athens, and Naples/Capri/Sorrento. Each day we woke up some where new and each stop was unique and interesting. Not to mention being treated like royalty aboard the ship. We had an amazing time.

Your review is amazing!!!!!!!!!! Everything looks great, and since we're also getting married at the Riviera a lot of the things you said really reassured me. I also have a flower baby, she's going to be about 10 months. I tried looking up the website but nothing comes up. R U sure u have the right address?
