We stayed 5 days in Cancun & 5 days in Playa De Carmen..
I would suggest breaking up your HM if you can. Cancun is fun, but it's very european.. We stayed at the Rio Las Americas which is the newest hotel it's BEAUTIFUL.. it's on the gulf side but close enough to downtown where the action is. Cancun has tons of things to do like Swimming w/ the dolphins, snorkeling, nightclubs..etc.. The food is ok in Cancun - at the Las Americas guys have to dress up at night, they must wear nice pants and dress shirts and nice shoes. There are several different restaurants in the hotel which require a reservation to be made - usually that morning on your way to the pool. The massages on the beach are amazing, I highly recommend them. The hotel overall was the best in Cancun, the service was fantastic.. my only complaint was the floors in your room get very slippery from the AC so be careful! It's an all inclusive resort so drink and eat up.. just bring amodium for upset stomachs.
Our last 5 days we went to Playa De Carmen which is 1 hour south of Cancun. We stayed at the Royal Hideaway. It was the most amazing place i've ever been too. The hotel is higher than a 5 star hotel, and a few girls on LIW can vouch what i'm saying since a few of us have been there. The food is amazing!!! The rooms are beautiful, and I highly recommend the top floor of which ever villa you stay at because the ceilings are vaulted which gives the room an nicer feel (I'm a big fan of high ceilings). Each room has it's own balcony and some overlook little spa pools in between each villa - it's a nice little break if you and your DH want to get away from the busy pool and have some quite time together. The Royal Hideaway is for couples mostly HM'ers and some coming back on their anniversaries. The pool service is fantastic.. everytime your drink was empty or even half empty they would bring you a fresh drink. The staff works so hard to make sure you are treated like royalty.. and they definitely do!!! The grounds are so gorgeous - they have little bridges and romantic spots just to hang out and be alone. There are activities 24/7 so you never get bored. The restaurants for dinner are better than NYC restaurants.. the waiters are so polite it almost is sickening.. LOL When you arrive and sit down to check in at the desk a bell clerk comes over with a glass of champagne and a nice cool towel so you can refresh yourself from your drive. Right there and then you know your going to be pampered 24/7..
In Playa there is tonssssss of shopping and the most amazing town that has great nightlife.. they have tons of outside bars (it kinda looks like 3rd ave in the city) if you would like to take a day trip over to Cosumel there is a ferry which is walking distance from the hotel.. I highly recommend going over for the day.. just stay away from the mopeds they are dangerous.. LOL I almost killed myself 3x's..
If you have any other questions please feel free to FM me.. I met another LIW girl w/ her DH who got married the day after we did at the Royal Hideaway and we both cant wait to go back.

You couldn't have said it any better than I could have. I agree with everything D&J said. The Royal Hideaway was amazing and I tell everyone to go there. We even got a postcard from our concierge telling us they missed us! The place really is great - you should def. think about going.

Re: Honeymoon in Mexico?
Hola! My FH and I booked our 2nd week in Cancun at the Royal Sunset Resort, which has 3 resorts in all that we can visit and take advantage of all amenities while paying a per diem of $68, I believe. It sounded perfect - right on the beach, plus 2 other resorts we could visit that were different. The first week, we're looking to book in New Orleans b/c it's just a flight over the Gulf from there. Thanks for your notes about the one in Playa del Carmen. We'll be going there, too! Enjoy and I wish you the best of everything!Welcome New Vendors
