Adding my review...
Here is some of my review. All in all, the wedding was great!! It went by so fast. Just enjoy your day and make the best of every moment, even if something does go wrong. Thanks for all of the helpful advice and ideas along the way!!!
MOTHER NATURE: A+++++++++++
Best weather ever..Sunny, blue skies, a little hot in the morning and afternoon, but by sundown, it was perfect picture-taking weather. I was sooo lucky!!!
LINDAS LOVELIES: A
Wedding invites, Cake card holder
Rented umbrella/wishing well for shower
Flower Girl Dress
I ordered the most beautiful wedding invites from Linda. She is so dedicated to her job. Linda was so patient and willing to sit with me for hours until I found the right invite. Although the invite I chose was a little steep in price, she has a great price range of invites from dirt cheap to high end. She also works from home and her hours were extremely convenient for me since I was in NJ ever other weekend and get home late from working in the city. One negative - the cake card holder I rented from her was warped at the bottom, so all of my wedding cards were getting stuck and falling out!!
I also got the Flower Girl Dress through Linda. It was so cute and so cheap!!
MASSAPEQUA FAVORS: D
Wedding picture frames (placecard)
Icecream scooper shower favor
Basket of flowers shower placecard holders
Shower invites
The prices here were cheap, cheap, cheap. I did some comparison shopping and I loved everything I ordered. But, flat out, the woman working there (forget her name) was so unprofessional and rude!! After I discovered Linda's Lovelies, I banned shopping at Mass. Favors.
WEDDING FAVORS: A
We bought them at a Waterford Warehouse Sale in NJ. They were $10 each and originally they went for $30 each. The lines were long, but it was worth the wait!! I also wrapped them and decorated the boxes myself (with the help of family and friends).
STRATHMORE LIMOS: A-
They arrived on time which was a major plus. The limos were fully stocked with alcohol and smelled clean. The limo drivers were a little weird, but very nice. The only problem was that they charged me over time for 15 minutes. On the way back to Jericho Terrace from West. Gardens, our driver was bitching out our photographer for running us 15 minutes late. I thought the charge ($200 extra) was a bit ridiculous considering my father knew the owner.
MY GOWN/BRIDESMAIDS DRESSES
B- working w/ designer b4 wedding
A+++ My completed Bridal Gown
I loved my bridesmaid and bridal gown. They were absolutely perfect. She (fm me if you want info) is a young designer who sells some gowns in Bridal Coutoure in Manhasset. She works uptown manhattan. Everything went super smoothly for the BM gowns. No problems there. My gown took forever. I had it custom made and not knowing the process of custom-making a dress, I would have liked it if she kept me more in the loop on scheduling, stages of the dress, etc. She always pushed my fitting dates out and wasn't clear enough on when things were going to be done. I got my dress approx. 5 or 6 days before my wedding. I thought I was going to get better one-on-one service from her. In the end, all the fittings (I went to about 10-12 fittings) and slight aggrevation was well worth it. The dress was everything I wanted and dreamed of.
BEWARE: Her prices are pretty steep!
MY MOM'S DRESS:
MIEKA - in Woodbury
My mom loved her experience here and loved her dress. Everything arrived on time. The lady helping/who did her fittings was very patient and very nice. I also bought my bridesmaids chandelier earrings from there. They looked very cute with the bridesmaid dresses.
JOSEPH (Hair) - fm me if you want info.
Joseph is the hair dresser who came to my house. He was so funny and relaxing the day of my wedding. He put extensions in my hair and even gave me a jewel that he sewed into my hair. He is a real professional and I loved what he did. I would have liked a more softer look. He used lots of hairspray, but I guess he kind of had too use it. His price was also steep. I figured you only get married once, so what the hell..why not!! I still wonder if I could have gotten the same look for a lot cheaper.
I got two trials with him. The first one he kind of mocked..he quickly put together a few different looks for me. Than, for the second one, he told me that he was going to perfect the look that I agreed to at the first trial, but kind of mocked it up again. In the end, the look was everything I wanted.
ST. EDWARDS CONFESSOR CHURCH IN SYOSSET: A
Father Tom was so cool and such a modern priest. Not farty at all!!! We had so many things made for the church (programs, rice roses, rose petal cones, and little jorden almond sacs). All of the things that could be thrown, was no problem at all for the church. The ceremony went soooo smoothly and the new church that they built is a bit modern, but so airy inside, you almost feel like you are outside. Most people complimented my ceremony the most!!!
CHURCH PROGRAMS/ DINNER MENUES / PHOTO PLACECARDS/ REHERSAL DINNER INVITES...and I'm sure I'm missing some other items. A++++++++++
My friend Karen (nypdsgirl) and I printed all of the above paper stuff. We had quite a few late nights, but lots of fun doing it!!! I hope she did too!! Everything came out beautiful and without her help, I would have been ROYALLY screwed!!! Thanks Kar!!! :)
JERICHO TERRACE:
C+/C- Before wedding (will give details later)....
A- After Wedding
My wedding at JT met my expectations to the fullest. The service/bartenders were great. The bartender that was near the bridal party table was constantly serving drinks and at one point gave them a bottle of something to drink..I think one of the groomsmen tipped the guy. Also, the room looked so beautiful..the centerpieces were high and really made a difference. Also the chair covers really made a difference as well. Linda and the two bridal attendants were AWESOME. Linda constantly asked if we needed anything and guided us through the entire night..they helped me with my bussle, which was kind of a pain and they brought my slippers over to the dais..I highly recommend Linda...she was great!!!! Mike came around a few times and always asked how things were and if we had any problems to let him know...THe food was EXCELLENT..My shrimp dish was to die for and Friends and family ordered the duck and filet minon and loved it. No complaints so far!! Overall the night was amazing...The cake tasted so good. I had to change it to fondant at the last minute and was a little nervous it would taste too sugary, but so many people loved it. The bakery JT uses copied the picture I gave them to a T..it looked so beautiful. Some things did not go the way expected, but they were things that only I would notice...
MINOR THINGS:
--The harpist at the CT hour was supposed to be situated by the entrance.. She was placed all the way in the back of the room. Not sure if anyone knew she was there.
--The menus were supposed to be folded into the napkins. Instead they leaned them against the glasses. It still looked really nice though.
--The cake was supposed to be 4 layers and it was only 3.
--Lamb chops were supposed to be displayed during CT hour and were passed instead.
BIGGER PROBLEMS:
--We asked and paid for a specific bottle of wine to be on all of the tables. I found out by my FIL that they were not on all of the tables.
--We paid for the sherbert intermezzo and never got it.
WESTBURY GARDENS: A-
This place is beautiful and there are sooo many locations for pictures. Going to each location was exhausting (considering we rushed to make our cocktail hour) and there was TONS of misqitoes. But, in the end, I am so glad I did it and I can't wait to see the pictures. I'm sure they will be awesome.
REHEARSAL DINNER RESTAURANT - Piccolo Bussola in Mineola: A-
The food here was really good, but I felt like the portions were kind of skimmpy for family style. I did like the fact that they could accommodate our Sat. night Rehearsal. After calling a few places, most restaurants didn't have a room or just flat out could not accommodate us on a Sat. night. We had our RD in a seperate room from the restaurant. The service was also pretty good.
CIGAR ROLLER: LITTLE CIGAR FACTORY - A
The roller arrived on time and if there were any problems, I didn't know about them and Jer. Terrace took care of it. We rec'd a bunch of pre-rolled cigars, along with hand-rolled cigars on site. They were labeled with our initials. It was def. a nice touch to the wedding and the men LOVED it!! The only negative..it's PRETTY EXPENSIVE!! We priced out a few cigar rollers in NJ to see if we could get a cheaper price and it didn't happen. Plan to spend approx $800 - $1000 for one hour
:(.... I didn't care for this, but my hubby really wanted it and it made him EXTREMELY happy!!
MACY'S BRIDAL (in Manhasset) - A
I had a very good experience here. I ordered my stuff in time and got it several weeks later. The lady who helped me was very patient and willing to work with what I wanted. Personal problem: in the end I second guessed the stuff I bought. I ended up taking my head piece and slipping it in the side of my low bun, instead of placing it on the top of my head. I also was not a 100% happy with the veil that I bought. I'm just not a veil and tiarra person. I was going to look for something else, but I said screw it...not worth spending anymore $$$ on a new veil and head piece.
MAKEUP - A+++++
My friend Daniella, who used to work at Estee Lauder Spa in Manhassett did my makeup. It was just so nice to know that I could speak up to her and let her know exactly what I wanted. I tend to get shy when I have to express my concerns or opinions about stuff like this. I hate telling someone, 'I don't like it or can you make this darker.'..whatever... I think she did an excellent job and would recommend her to anyone.
SHOWER RESTAURANT - Cafe Testarossa in Syosset: A+++++++
I love this restaurant and eat there occassionally. Since I helped plan my shower, I told my mom that I would love to have it there. The decor is nice and the service was excellent. Highly recommend this restaurant for a shower or rehearsal dinner. I wish I could have had my rehearsal dinner there, but they couldn't accommodate me on a Sat. night.
TUXEDO - Coleman's Tuxedoes in NJ: A-
My Hubby basically took care of this part of the wedding. All of the tuxes were in on time. So that part was good. My DH actually had some problems with his tux. He bought his and the material was not what he had ordered..It was'nt anything people would notice, but the material was not what he paid for. Also, his jacket sleeves were altered kind of short, in my opinion. My DH thought they were fine. Also, the Groomsmen rented shoes and apparently they were sort of worn out. In the end, we went back to complain and the guy we worked with gave DH a free cumberbun and a $200 tux shirt...
HARPIST - Stan Weist - can't really rate because I didn't really hear or see her!!! :(
All I know is that she arrived on time. I was kind of annoyed because she was put all the way in the back of the CT hour room. She was hardly seen and when I walked into the room, I could barely hear her...more Jericho Terrace's fault than the harpists.
BAND- Mirage Music: A
The band was AWESOME. Everyone was dancing and I think I got about 3 or 4 guests asking if they could have their phone number. They were an Italian American band that played just about every type of music. Only negatives: I gave them a request list, that they really didn't play. But honestly, I didn't mind because they played really good music the whole night. I highly recommend them!!! They were also pretty cheap for a band.
