The past two years have been an incredible journey and this review means that I have completely reached my destination.


Our Story
Matt and I met in the summer of 1998 and then again in 2000 on an elevator at Ithaca College. Five years later, he proposed in Ithaca! My sister had been married that previous summer so of course she told me to join LI Weddings. I had heard so much about “the wedding boards” and I thought the people on them were insane. Well, little did I know that the wedding boards would be my saving grace as I planned our wedding for over two years.
I could never rate LIW, but I have to say that this website is amazing. Any bride getting married on Long Island should be a member of this site. The amount of information and support is surreal. I thank Ron and Liz and the countless brides who help make this site what it is.

My Engagement Ring
King Richards Jeweler- A (not a plus, because they closed )
Matt purchased my ring from King Richards Jewelers in the SmithHaven Mall. A friend of ours mother worked there and she really helped Matt check out diamonds and find the perfect one for my dream setting. Matt was very pleased with their service, but sadly, their store closed in the mall. Other than that and telling Matt my e-ring was my size (it was a half size off) they were great!



Knight of Columbus Hall – Engagement Party A+
We have a ton of family and friends with whom we wanted to celebrate our engagement. We knew that we wanted to have it near the time we got engaged, so we picked a date in January. My parents knew they couldn’t fit everyone in our house so we went looking at halls to rent. Matt and I wanted a personal experience with our family and friends, so my parents rented the KOC in Nesconset for a Saturday night. We had over 100 people – our families helped with the cooking and my mom hired two people to do the setting up/serving a food so she could enjoy herself. It was a great party!!



Save the Dates- savethedate.com A
Matt and I wanted to send out magnet STDs with our 2006 Christmas cards. We chose the design because we didn’t want our picture on the STDs and we wanted it to go with our winter theme. The magnets arrived rather quickly. The only complaint I have is that the white faded on many of the magnets.


Invitations- Carlson Craft- A+
A friend of DH’s from work, wife works for Carlson Craft so we went through her to order our invitations. Looking for invitations was pretty painful as we knew we didn’t want to spend an incredible amount of money for something people lose and/or throw out. What we ended up with was more beautiful that I had anticipated and it really went with our theme. The woman ended up saving us a ton of money and she had all of the envelopes printed for us, so stuffing the invites wasn’t a problem.




Wedding Rings- Diamond Jewelers- A+ before but now an F!
We purchased our rings through Diamond Jewelers because DH’s sister worked for them. While my SIL was an absolute pleasure to work with, I give the company an F for 2 reasons. First while on our HM, my wedding band lost 2 diamonds! And secondly, they fired my SIL, which I cannot really discuss, but their reasoning and how they did it are unacceptable. They have lost our business!!!



Day-of- Attire
My dress- Demetrios Stlye 916
Macy’s- SmithHaven
My mom and I looked at a pretty decent amount of dresses. One Sunday we saw an ad for the Demetrios Trunk show, so I called and made an appointment. The night before, I went online and looked at their dresses. I wrote down style numbers that I waned to try on. Style 916 was on the top of my list. It was near the end of my appointment at Macy’s when I finally got to try on my dress. I knew it was the one. It definitely made me feel like a princess! My mom wanted to bring back my grandma before buying the dress, but since it was a trunk show, if we ordered that day, we would save some $. So Macy’s allowed us to put a partial deposit down that was refundable. Two days later my grandma came and loved it too, so we put the rest of the deposit down.
My dress came in during the beginning of August. I went to view the dress and to try it on. The women who helped me after I purchased my gown were fine- not extremely nice or helpful, but they were okay. When I asked if I could make my first fitting appointment they told me to call back. So I called in October for my November first fitting.
My first fitting was fine- the stream stress was nice but again, not overly friendly. Alterations were very expensive and I had told my mother this beforehand (after hearing this on LIW) but my mom felt comfortable having the dress altered there since that is where we purchased it from.
Overall, I had a good experience with Macy’s, but it was nothing to write home about.


Bridesmaid Dresses and Fur Wraps- Helen’s – A++++++++++++++++
I cannot compliment the staff enough for all of their help! Ashley and her mom became like friends throughout our entire planning process. They were great to work with especially since I had BMs scattered around the US. I had a big group of my bridal party get measured at once, then had another one come in one weekend, another one another weekend, and one that I ordered for her without them measuring her. They were fantastic!!!!! I highly recommend Helen’s!!!!


Flower Girl Dresses- David’s Bridal, Lake Grove- B+
My mother, grandmother and I had been checking out prices of the FG dresses whenever we were out shopping. We felt that they were all priced too high and we couldn’t find any that we liked so we decided to hit up David’s since my FGs are rather small in size and they could try the actual dress on there in their actual size. The staff pretty much left us alone and never came by once to help us. I guess that was fine, but a little input when were deciding on bows could have been helpful. When we went back to pick up the dresses, again no one helped us. It wasn’t as if the place was crowded either- I just felt as though they could have at least checked in on us.

Mother of the Bride and Grandmother of the Bride Dresses- Adrienne’s – A
I had heard some horror stories about Adrienne’s and I tried to tell my mom not to look there, but she had been practically all over LI and I didn’t like anything she tried on. My grandmother, mother and I went looking at Adrienne’s one day and we had a very nice older woman help us. My mom tried on a few dresses that were okay and then she tried on the one- it was absolutely beautiful and we hadn’t seen anything like it anywhere else. Since my grandmother was with us and liked it too, my mom felt it was a good choice and ordered it that day. While my mother was paying, my grandmother looked around some more. She had purchased her gown for my sister Jean’s wedding here and remembered another dress she had liked, but was too expensive. Well she tried it on again and loved it, so she ordered it. When it came in she altered it herself so I can’t say much about their seamstress. My mom also didn’t have any complaints.

Tuxes- Mens Wearhouse- SmithHaven Mall – B+
One evening in the fall Matt and I stopped by to look at their selection. We knew we wanted to order the tuxes from there since we had a groomsman who lived out of state. It was a very painless process- we picked out everything and were told when the guys needed to come by and get measured.
When Matt and I went to pick up his tux, a young girl helped us. Matt’s vest was way too big on him so they re-ordered the smaller size and they had it there next day.
After the wedding, my mother-in-law told me of some complaints she had with them. My father-in-law’s shirt was dirty and she had to wash it and apparently they had forgotten to give one of the best men cufflinks- which I know is not their fault, but the best man for not checking, but I guess my mother-in-law stressed over this the morning of the wedding.
One thing I did not like about Men’s Wearhouse was that the tuxes had to be returned the next day, which they may have very well have told us, but I guess we were too wrapped up with the final plans, that when we picked up the tux, we forgot. So of course a lot of our groomsmen


Accessories
Shoes- Varone’s of Sayville- A+
I had been searching online for shoes and came across these shoes. My mom works in Sayville so I met her one day for lunch and shopping. The owner was very helpful and when they didn’t have the shoe in stock, they ordered it right away. My shoes came in and were great. After the wedding, I gave my mom my shoes to be brought to Varone’s to be dyed black, which is free if you buy the shoes at their store.


DOJ- Overstock and Ebay- A+
I purchased my earrings from Overstock.com and my bracelet on ebay- loved them both!



Headpiece- Paradise Bridal- B
My mom and I decided to check out Paradise Bridal for MOB and FG dresses as well as their headpiece collection one day. I knew that I wanted something small and simple for the side of my hair. While my mother had little luck with her dress, I found a small headpiece that I liked. We ordered it – nothing great with the service.
When I called to check in a few months later on my headpiece, I got a message saying that they didn’t even order it yet and that they weren’t going to order it until November, since sometimes “they turn”. My logic was, I gave you my money, I want my headpiece. So I told them I would take the chance of it turning (after asking LIW gals if this were true) and told them to order it right away. The piece came in a few weeks later and I went to pick it up. Well, the women couldn’t be bothered to help me and were rather rude. I got my headpiece and left. I just didn’t like the feel of the whole place and I was happy that I only purchased my headpiece from there.


Veil- borrowed from my sister Jean
Jean purchased the veil from Patchogue Floral when she was planning her wedding in 05. Since the place is closed, can’t really rate it, but I give Jean an A+ for letting me borrow it- I received a ton of compliments on it!



Garter- HCC Garters- A++++
My sister Jean- once again, she saved the day- had purchased her garter from them- a custom made garter of her husband’s band logo. So I contacted the owner to make mine- I knew I wanted to incorporate Ithaca College since their colors are blue and gold- the blue could be my “something blue”. The owner designed the garter after I gave her some key info and color preferences. I was so amazed by this garter!! I highly recommend HCC!!!!


Programs, Place Cards, Table Numbers, Unity Candle, Memorial Candle- Cheryl
I had seen Cheryl’s work from MJDoc’s wedding review and I absolutely loved it. I quickly contacted Cheryl and she gave me an unbeatable price that I quickly sent her a deposit.
I picked up my items about a week before our wedding and was very pleased with everything Cheryl had done. Not only is her work phenomenal but she is just an absolute pleasure to work with. When I realized 2 days before my wedding that a place card had the wrong table number on it (my mistake) I quickly emailed Cheryl and she sent me the font so I could change it since I didn’t have time to get a new one from her. If you are interested in Cheryl’s work, feel free to FM me and I will give you her email address. I know she and her husband are expecting a baby soon so I don’t know how many wedding she is willing to do at this time.





Card box- Modern Bride- Ebay- A
I ordered our cardbox in April but because the owner had her baby early we didn't receive it until December. While we loved loved loved the box, I hated the fact that I paid and had to wait so long.


Unity Candle Holder, Cry Packs, Embroidered Bo-K ribbon- Ebay- A+
I wanted a plain unity candle holder so I ordered the plain gold rings one off of ebay. In the end, my church used the one they had and used my unity candle for my memorial candle
I had seen cry packs on here but realized I did not have the time or energy to make them so I ordered them from ebay. Good price and came quickly.
I ordered a red bo-k ribbon with a T and our date on it, but then realized that the reds would match, so I ordered a new gold one, which was great since we incorporated a lot of gold into our theme. It came very quickly and was exactly what I wanted.

were in no shape to return the tux the next day and my own father-in-law was relaxing the day after and returned it the following day- well, they tried to make him pay- for Matt’s tux, his tux and the out-of-state groomsman tux. They were very upset about this, so my mother-in-law called the company and they were refunded.

Food and fun!
Bachelorette Party- NYC, Sex and the City Tour- A+++
The one thing I knew I wanted to do was go on this tour for my party. My sister made sure this happened. For all of you who are huge SATC fans you MUST go on this tour! We had such a great time! After the tour we went out to dinner and then out to a bar in NYC. It was a great weekend, topped off with an amazing COACH cake! A friend of the family made the cake for me and it was just as delicious as it was great to look at!


My Shower- Irish Coffee Pub- A+
I did not have a surprise shower because I am a snoop and because I hate surprises. Also, it made it a whole lot easier for my mom to plan it with me knowing about. I had such a beautiful shower and the food and service were great!


Rehearsal Dinner- Olio’s in Commack- A+
DH and I started to look for a place in early 2007 because we knew we wanted a Friday night and we knew we would have about 50 people. Because our rehearsal was on 12/28 some restaurants didn’t want to book us – I guess because they knew they would be busy anyway.
We wanted a package to include some type of alcohol since our BP and family enjoy a good time. We met with the guys at Olio’s and we couldn’t have been happier- the owners were great and their food is amazing. They also have a great selection of packages and we found the one that best suited our needs.
The night of, the tables were a little tight but no one minded because the food and service were out of this world.


Groom’s Cake- Friend of the Family A+++
The same woman who made my COACH cake, made DH’s groom’s cake. I totally surprised DH and everyone else!


Presents, Presents!!
Bridal Party Gifts, Victoria’s Secret, Redotdesigns.com, Bath & Body Works and some other websites. Tiffany & Co. – A+
I made my girls goodie bags from VS that were full of a pair of earrings for the day-of, lip balm, a personalized martini glass and red soap. All items were easy to order and arrived on time.
My sister and matron of honor also received a Tiffany’s necklace- I ordered it online and it came within a few days.



St. Thomas More- can't rate it!
This has been my parish since I was baptized in 1982! We were blessed to have the same priest who gave me my first holy communion and confirmation, marry us, as well as, a deacon who is very close to our family! We didn't have any problems with the parish.


Major vendors:
Photography & Video- The Velvet Studio – A+
Matt and I wanted to check out the house vendors that East Wind recommended for photographers, so we checked out the 2 they did and weren’t really sold with their packages or their service. My sister had used Velvet for her wedding and I guess I was being silly and didn’t want to go look there at first since I wanted Matt and I to experience our own wedding plans and vendors. Well, when I wised up, Matt and I went to meet with Bob at Velvet. Bob treated us like family right from the start. He remembered my sister and my brother-in-law, even though he was unable to shoot their wedding. He asked Matt and me what our budget was and he worked with us until we met at a price we liked with the photo selection we liked. We went back and signed the contract a few days after meeting with Bob!
We took our engagement pictures with Bob in August of 2006 at Robert Moses State Park. It was an overcast day and Matt and I were a bit weary about taking the pictures at the beach, but we loved how they came out. It was also great to work with Bob before the wedding and see how he worked.
The day of the wedding, Bob and his team arrived early. We had paid for him and his wife, who is a photojournalist and we were happily surprised by a third photographer, who was training with Bob as a photojournalist.
We took a lot of pictures before the wedding at my house and after the mass, we went back to my house just for a few pictures before heading out to East Wind. Once at East Wind, Matt and I took some pictures outside just with Bob and then did some formal bridal party shots on the staircase at the Inn. Bob and his team were great and a lot of fun throughout the day. I never felt like the pictures were never ending or that he or any one of his team members were annoying me. So far I only have the proofs online, but from what I see, the pictures are beautiful! We could not be more happy!

Legend Limos – A+++
We only looked at Legend because my SIL knew the owner through a friend. Bobby and his team were fabulous from day one of booking through our entire wedding day and day after. Not only are his cars gorgeous, his service is unbeatable. We got an Escalade for us and our BP and a Cadillac DTS for our parents, grandparents and my BILs. Both drivers were so nice- all of our BP and family could not say enough about them. Right before I was about to walk down the aisle, my driver came over and calmed me down- it was so sweet. They arrived on-time, if not early and both cars were in top shape!
My parents wanted a limo to take them and my sisters and BILs home the day after our wedding. First they called another limo company they had used with my other sister’s wedding. They called them first because my in-laws were taking charge of our limos, so they didn’t really know how Legend was. I kept telling them to call Legend, but they wanted to check out “their” company first. After getting a quote of $500, my dad called Bobby and was thrilled at their price! Bobby also threw in a trip for DH and me for our HM. That driver was again, on time and super friendly.
I cannot say enough or recommend Bobby and Legend Limos enough!

Flower- Fran Campbell (friend of the family) A+
I won’t write too much about Fran since she only does the weddings of people she knows, but she was fabulous! She gets her flowers whole sale and is a close family friend so I felt comfortable with her. Her ideas and creativity are out of this world and I could not have been more happy with our flowers and CPs.



Makeup- Oksana- A+
Once I joined LIW and saw the amazing work Oksana does I immediately booked a trial with her and then booked her for our wedding. I had another trial as our wedding day got closer. I can’t say enough about Oksana- she is super friendly and her work is amazing. You definitely feel like it’s your friend of many years doing your makeup. Oksana makes you feel some calm the day of- I just love her!
She did my makeup, my mom’s and the rest of my bridal party with the exception of my SIL. All of the girls looked stunning! Oksana arrived on-time and was able to do all of us before the photographer arrived. My makeup lasted throughout the night and I could not have been more pleased with her and her work!


Hair- JoAnne, Anthony James Salon- A+
JoAnne has been doing my hair since I was about 5 years old. She has done my hair for everything, from my first communion to my engagement party. It was a no brainer that I would want her to do my hair, even though she was a guest at our wedding. I had a trial with her about a month before the wedding and again the week of the wedding. The day of my hair didn’t turn out exactly as I wanted and it didn’t last as well as I had expected it to, but I have to say that having JoAnne do my hair was a blessing to me. She is like another mother to me and I couldn’t imagine anyone else doing my hair on the day of my wedding.
The salon also did my BMs and Mom’s hair with the exception of 2 BMs. We were all done in time and everyone looked great!


High Voltage DJ – A
Vinny and High Voltage was another vendor I heard rave reviews about and had to book! We met with Vinny a year and a half before our wedding and booked him on the spot. What I love about Vinny is that he doesn’t try to sell you on anything you don’t want. He listens to what you want and what type of music you like and then tells you what he’s all about. He’s super nice and just a great guy.
The reason I did not give Vinny any + marks is because the day of I was a little upset when he didn’t play a song I specifically requested to be played for my husband. I have to admit, part of it was my fault for never reminding him the day of, but honestly, my head was spinning with happiness. I didn’t really notice until they played the last dance and I was like wait! Other than that, Vinny was great. He and his team arrived on time and our guests raved and raved about how much they enjoyed the music at our wedding.
I know people have been bashing Vinny lately, but I will say that he is an honest and great businessman. The only reason he would not be there himself to DJ a wedding is for some serious emergency.

East Wind – A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I cannot say enough about East Wind. It was the first place we looked at back in 2005 when we went to a bridal showcase. After tasting some food, we met with John a Banquet Manager about our 12.29.07 wedding. John was super friendly and walked us through everything. Once we saw the Estate Matt and I knew this was the place. John said their price was not as high as some places and not as low as others, but right in the middle. He was exactly right. We looked around, but nothing compared to East Wind, so I called John back a few weeks later and negotiated the price and minimum number guarantee. We also set up a tasting which was fantastic and then went over to the Estate to sign a contract. My dad tried to negotiate some more and I thought he wasn’t going to book them, but it worked out and we signed the contract that night.
The few weeks and days before our wedding, EW continued to be amazing. I had a little breakdown when handing in my table info and had to re-do it and fax it to them. John was great though and totally calmed my worst fears and also told me that I’m not a crazy bride after I apologized for my behavior.
I met with Joyce our Maitre’D 2 days before our wedding. We again went over everything and she was such a sweetheart. The day of, Joyce and my Bridal Attendant, cannot think of her name, were out of this world. I never felt like they were in my face, yet they kept the night going without a glitch. They had everything packed up for us and they truly felt like members of the family by the end of the night.
I seriously want a friend to get married at East Wind so I can fully experience what my guests were able to experience. People keep raving about our wedding, which makes us feel great, because to us, it was the best wedding we could have possibly had.

East Wind- The Inn- block of rooms- A+
We had a good amount of rooms booked with EW- the rooms are fabulous and I keep telling DH we have to go back there!!

East Wind- Desmond’s, Day After Brunch- A+
We had more people than we had anticipated but everyone had a seat and the food was incredible! Definitely should try their brunch if you’re ever out on the east end!!!

Honeymoon- Sandal’s Halcyon Beach, St. Lucia- A+
The resort and island were amazing and we had such a fabulous time! We were able to visit the other 2 resorts on the island and now we cannot wait to plan our next trip back! You can’t beat Sandals.
When we trying to decide on which resort to stay, we spoke with a friend of ours who used to work for Sandals and had visited all of the resorts. We explained what type of resort we wanted and she recommended the Halcyon. While this resort is its smallest and oldest on the island, the service and views are incredible. It was exactly what we wanted for our honeymoon- a small, cozy beachy resort! In my opinion, you cannot go wrong with any Sandals Resort!

Liberty Travel, Selden Office- A-
We booked through Liberty Travel because again our Sandals friend told us that they are Sandal’s main travel agency. We booked with one agent and apparently she was fired, so about a month before our HM I asked DH to contact them because I remember them telling us we owed money a month before. When DH called and asked when our money was due, a new agent said a few days ago. We were a little upset that no one contacted us, but in the end it wasn’t that big of a deal. It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth that no one thought to contact this old TA’s customers.
