My 07-28-07 Super Looong Wedding Review with Old Westbury Gardens, Harbor Club, SIB, Christine @ EAP and many more!!!!!!!!

We Partied Like Rockstars!!!!!!!
**ALL PICS ARE BY SOMETHING IN BLUE***UPDATED W/MOB and MOG INFO
LIW-A+++++
I would not have been able to pull this event off without the help of liweddings and all the awesome brides-to-be, brides and vendors!! The advice, To-Do Lists, Questions to Ask and REVIEWS were priceless. The amount of amazingly creative ideas I found here made my wedding all that more awesome! I had to stop myself b/c I wanted to do everything. The hours of sleep that I lost due to wedding jitters were happily spent lurking, posting and reading up. Let’s just say the addiction doesn’t end after the wedding!
MY Theme-A+++++
I had to rate this b/c when deciding to plan such a big event I wanted to have a color scheme that I kept to and I wanted the overall wedding to have a look. I love the color lavender and chocolate brown has been such a hot color the past few years-it was everywhere and I loved the idea of combining the two but it wasn’t easy. Everyone scrunched up their faces at the chocolate brown idea. Except for all the liweddings girls!! So I started keeping ideas to myself and DH and did my own thing! I received so many compliments about everything and I was so thrilled about how things came together. I bring all this up to say that you have to do your own thing. It is so easy to get caught up in what others say verbally or in facial expressions!!! I am so glad I did.
Weather-A+++++
It was supposed to RAIN on Sat. and I was trying not to be stressed. I even printed the rainy day pics thread to make myself feel better but I was secretly praying for sun. My ceremony was OUTSIDE at Old Westbury Gardens so everyone around me was freaking out!!! I kept telling them don’t be negative and I tried to stay positive even when OWG called to say with over 40% chance of rain they needed to put up a tent. I tried not to look outside all day so when I stepped outside and started sweating in the sun-I was 1 HAPPY BRIDE!!!!
Ceremony Location-A+++++
I really wanted to get married in a church so I was looking for a place to take pics after the ceremony. The minute I drove through the gates of OWG-I knew I was getting married there. The more time I spent walking the grounds the more I was in love with OWG. Diana is awesome, so accommodating even when I was stressed about the tent visually (poles, etc) she was so reassuring. When I wanted a table set up for juice and water for guests she kept all the stuff the night before and had it all set up wedding day. In my pre-wedding neurosis-I requested the width of the aisle, how many chairs would be in each row, the dimensions of the tent and a bunch of other questions that she gladly answered without being condescending. Diana and OWG were amazing!
Communication-B
It takes a while for you to get a response via phone or email. Diana’s assistants are helpful but Diana makes all decisions so most of the time I just waited to speak with her. I would often have to wait but I am still giving a good rating b/c I always got positive answers from her and she took care of all concerns.

Reception Location-A+++++
I went through countless reviews, websites and venue locations. I fell in love with the Royalton but I wanted a Sat. night wedding and the price was too high for me after just buying our home. I cried over that. I had to put it in perspective with the new house, kids, etc. I moved on to The Harbor Club. I wanted a place that only held 1 wedding at a time, had great food and I felt comfortable that they would take care of us. Without knowing it they pretty much sealed the deal within the first 15 min of our meeting. Maitre D asked if we would like a drink and I ordered a Cosmo, FH ordered a jack and coke and she got down on the same level as our 3 kids and asked what they would like. The Maitre D brought in all the drinks and Rice Krispie treats for the kids. The night of the wedding-they took care of everyone!! My uncle who drinks a certain kind of beer-they ran out and got it, the kids had an amazing CT Hour set-up that adults were visiting their table and ice cream sundaes for their dessert!! It was such a great feeling to know that they paid attention to our kids and the kids enjoyed it also. Food was awesome, view was awesome, Matt is the man!! Matt was super accommodating prior to the wedding, every request was taken care of, timeline followed, and suggestions made even after they were paid and when we were under our count they offered other items or discounts on other items and ultimately packaged up the whole fillets of meats, sauces, potatoes and vegetables. We froze the meat and the pot. and veggies were gone by the Sunday after the wedding. They also packed 2 plates for the hotel room for us the night of the wedding. I didn’t love the décor or the limited area for pics or the location to other restaurants etc but we weren’t going to live there and we had OWG. The view over the Harbor was also beautiful and we did get great pics of the view and CT hour. Our most important needs were met.

Officiant-A+++++
Pastor April was amazing!! DH and I were combining families when we got married. He had 1 son from a previous relationship and I had my 2 children from a previous marriage. Our wedding was the culmination of all the steps we took from getting to know the five of us to creating a home for us all so we wanted a ceremony to reflect our lives. Our 3 kids were involved from the beginning (I’m talking invite beginning) and they felt appreciated.
We met with her; and DH was a little nervous about booking her. His family is very traditional and religious but I reminded him whose wedding we were having and gave him time to think about what he wanted. She emailed us all of the options for the ceremony and I read parts to him and he changed his tune. By the time Pastor April, DH and I were done we had the most beautiful ceremony including words that spoke directly to our relationship and our own vows along with some traditional parts as well as our own twist on the Family Medallion Ceremony which included promises made to the children from us. I definitely cried working on that. We received so many compliments on the ceremony even from the religious relatives that wanted to see it all take place in a church so that was touching!
Florist-A+++++
Laurie @lablossom was great to work with. Completely easy going, totally prepared for our meetings and is close to our home. When I realized that we were going to need a tent she took care of decorating it and our flowers were GORGEOUS. Beautiful colors! I was so happy when she arrived at the hotel-everything in the boxes were perfect. I loved the girls’ baskets and head wreaths. The girls’ baskets had little arrangements inside with a baggie attached on the side that held the rose petals. Great idea!!! The ceremony urns were not as big as what I expected- but they did the job-so I got over it. I was so happy with my bouquet, DH’s boutonniere; my MOH’s bouquet had crystals in it to set hers apart-beautiful, my BM bouquets were all gorgeous!!

Day Of Coordinator-A+++++
Christine @ EAP was the BOMB!!!!!!!! She totally rocks. She calmed me down in my bridezilla meltdown about 3 weeks prior to the wedding. She answered all my questions and concerns. It was so nice to hear “I’ll take care of it” “Done, Take Care of”. She created our programs, votive place cards, memorial candle and bar menus. She directed the RH and came through at the 11h hour with favor tags, petal cones and cake topper. She was my insurance for the wedding. Love her personality and she is fabulous at what she does.

Invitations -A
Laura Paladino @laura paladino.com I had my heart set on pocketfold invitations! I knew the invitations would set the tone of the event. I wanted formal in our colors and all of the info in one spot for our guests. I searched around and looked into DIY but with our schedules-it wasn’t happening. So I turned to a professional. Laura Paladino is located in Canada so there is a price break b/c of the exchange rate but you pay a fee through your bank for doing the exchange-which I called and had them remove. There also is a fee from customs. Both charges were minimal for my order. I paid more than I wanted to for invites but they were a HIT!!! Everyone loved them and we received so many compliments from family & friends. I liked working with Laura-she was extremely professional, knowledgeable, quick with responses and her work is gorgeous!! Just be careful with knowing what she is charging for each item b/c at the last moment she told me that I had to pay for the 2nd layer of backing on the invites ($3.00 per invite). I was furious b/c 1) it was never on any of the previously detailed invoices and 2) on her website it showed the invites with the backing and no mention of addit’l cost. So I stated that to her and she was Extremely Professional about it and didn’t charge me. The invitations arrived gorgeously wrapped and were just beautiful!!
DJ-A+++++
Ebony Entertainment was both of our choice from previous experiences. They did SIL’s wedding and friends of mine as well-they rocked the house and kept the dance floor packed! Brenda is basically THE office staff so I dealt with her but I made sure to meet with the MC prior to the wedding. I have a lot of family that are into metal, alternative, pop and even country but they still got up and partied hard!!! I gave them a must play list but in hindsight-I didn’t really need to. They did a little game to give away the centerpieces and played all dances on cue.
Ceremony Musicians-A+++++
Vintage String Quartet-were perfect for the ceremony. We were in such a beautifully formal setting that I wanted beautiful and formal music. I was quite happy working with Fran and listened to the music on their site for ideas. They were early, played beautifully and sounded amazing!

[
Hotel-A+++++
Huntington Hilton was beyond wonderful and Corrie Sanchez is the WOMAN over there!!!!!!!! She made it happen! All the girls stayed in the Presidential Suite with an adjoining room next door the night b/4 and to save $$ the guys checked into our Bridal Suite the day of. We used the shuttle and when I told her of a competitive price for the shuttle-she reduced the price. When guests needed rooms the week before the wedding and the rate had expired-she made it happen!! The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Great Experience for all and we will definitely stay with them again.
Cigar Roller-A+++++
Little Cigar Factory in Massapequa is a regular place for us to buy cigars. I bought DH his humidor from them and he likes their cigars. I like the smaller flavored ones. So, it was an easy choice. They were great to work with and they showed up on time.
Hair & Make-Up-A
Mia @ ************* is an awesome talent!!! Hard to get in touch with but did the best job. I didn’t want to look at myself and see someone else. I barely ever wear make-up and I wanted to make sure it looked natural. She was the perfect pick. Totally calm and her work spoke for itself. My DH loved it. I was so happy with her and would probably use her again for any other event.

Videography-TBD
Wes@Filmjones was my final choice for video. I went through tortuous hours searching for an unobtrusive videographer who shot w/ Super 8-which I fell in love with!!! Wes was so laid back when we met him and we all felt completely comfortable with him. On the wedding day he was there but not in our face at all. I can’t wait to see the video and see what I missed and how it all came together!!
Photographers-A+++++++++++++++ TO INFINITY AND BEYOND!
Something In Blue has some amazing work!!! I wanted candid and I wanted creativity. I just picked up my proofs and they are OUT OF THIS WORLD! They didn’t miss a beat. They got every detail and things that I wouldn’t even think to get-they got. They were awesome to deal with once I let go of control-the 1 vendor that told me how it was going to be but I took it like a big girl!! It was so hot that day and I am so glad that we didn’t have to stand with this one and that one and that while they didn’t take a list they certainly got everyone as they were interacting and they knew who was who b/c they were with us for the entire day. I was nervous about not having a big pkg. and DH was not happy about that when looking at price but what I found was that you get beautiful 4X6 proofs that I put in huge beautiful albums while I am going through them and showing people. I went to Shutterfly and ordered pics and albums for parents and BP. So, I saved the big album and any blow up size pics for us to do with SIB. While on our honeymoon, I kept checking their blog to see if they posted any pics and they had!!! I love what I saw and the rest are just as fabulous if not more so! Love the idea that they post a few early to get you all worked up and I gave everyone I know their website address to check out the pics. Great marketing!

Rings-A+++++
Kevin @ The Karat Shop in Huntington is the man!! DH told me I could pick the engagement ring and he would surprise me with the delivery. He did. I fell in love with my setting and it is definitely my dream ring!!! We had done a lot of research, visited many places and I looked through mags-I kept seeing these amazing antique style rings but couldn’t find it any of the jewelry shops without having an astronomical price so I happened to stop in the store for jewelry for a gift and fell in love!! Kevin worked with us and we bought my engagement ring and band set. I kept showing DH a picture of this ring I loved for him-it had diamonds in it and a different style to the band. I saw it at Fortunoff for a ridiculous amt. of $$$. We showed it to Kevin, he ordered 4 styles and they were in his shop in 3 weeks. We pd ½ the price! We will definitely buy more jewelry there.

Limos-B-/C+
Loved the Rolls Royce and the limos were clean and on time. The Rolls driver was a little rude-their p/u time was 2:45pm and we got downstairs about 3:30pm-DH had to run back to our house so we were trying to wait for him to come back so that he could ride in the limo but he told everyone to go w/out him and the BM and they would meet us there-the driver was so rude when I came out of the hotel-telling me were going to owe so much in OT fees, etc. No Hello, good afternoon, nothing!! It was all about the $$$. I finally had to tell him-look if it’s $$$ you’re worried about- we’ll settle it when the time comes!! I knew I had cushioned myself enough with time so by the time the night was over we didn’t owe a dime b/c we were right on schedule after all-but had we needed to pay extra $$ was it necessary to carry on that way-No!-totally unprofessional. We also chose to have the car service to the airport instead of the return service at the end of the night. I confirmed ahead of time and got the price for our return from the honeymoon car service. We got a message when we landed at JFK that they don’t pick-up @ the airport!!!!! Hello, how are we supposed to get home???!! I was screaming. We ended up taking a yellow cab and paying through the nose.

Favors-A+++++
Wrap With US
I had the most difficulty picking a favor-everything I loved was expensive and it was hard trying to pick something for everyone so I finally decided on something we would use. We went with olive oil bottles. (We love EVOO with fresh mozz. and basil.) Wrap with us had the best price and I was able to pick them up.
Cake-A+++++
Rolling Pin Bakery-is a vendor of The Harbor Club’s. I wanted Red Velvet Cake and I wasn’t sure about décor on the outside. I knew I wanted something with our colors tied into it. I had met with another cake vendor and she was so sweet and we had a tasting-she even showed us this amazing tray of sugar paste flowers-all types-really beautiful. The price was reasonable for the style and tiers and it included the sugar paste flowers and sugar paste butterfly. Her website is www.mylittlecupcake.com. In the end we had a tasting with Rolling Pin Bakery b/c we wanted to save $$ and it was included with our pkg for HC. We met with the owner-David and he was great-he had mock up cakes displayed so it was easy to pick the outside-he also had articles displayed in his shop in which he was featured in the papers as well as in Whose Wedding Is It Anyway? I would highly recommend both of them.

My Dress-A+++++
Bride Couture -was great to work with. I ADORE my dress!!!!!! I am guilty of being a 2 dress bride. I originally decided on a dress that I had found at The Bridal Garden in Manhattan. I liked it, it fit and it was silk satin designed by Rahamanian. I liked it but didn’t love it on me but I figured I’m not going to be in love with everything so it’s ok. WRONG!! I was online looking for a veil and stumbled on Bride Couture. I LOVE Reem Acra designs but couldn’t commit to spending that much on a dress. Bride Couture sells the samples from designers at a fraction of the price and other items as well. I browsed the Reem Acra section and I found THE DRESS!!!!! I knew instantly in my gut that I was wearing that dress down the aisle. At the Bridal Garden-there is a no return policy b/c the money goes to a children’s charity. I had to suck it up. DH was not happy about the 2 dress thing or that I wanted to order another online but I said a prayer and ordered it. It came in & it fit! There were minor things that needed to be fixed but nothing that I felt was noticeable enough to not want to wear it. They give you 10 days to return it if you don’t want it. I took it straight to Phyllis and asked if she could fix the beading. She said Yes and the rest is history!

Dress Alterations-B
Communication-D
Phyllis @ Gown Find-Phyllis is great at what she does and I really like her as a person. She is completely down to earth as is her daughter and her more seasoned staff. However, I think she’s better under pressure and I think she has more volume than hands. My dress came out beautifully and she put cups in at the 11th hour, pulled the top in more also at the 11th hour and even brought my dress label with Velcro and under skirt to my house at the 11th hour. I was stressed out b/c everything was in the 11th hour. My dress label was lost in her shop and never actually went into my dress-I had to Velcro it-which of course did not stay on. I should have been at my rehearsal dinner instead of waiting for my dress. I think it is completely unacceptable to push stuff to the last minute when you are a vendor. I brought my dress to her at least 6 months in advance of the wedding and there is no reason for me to come to a second fitting and changes from the first fitting haven’t been made. I mean really. Plus, it seems when she expanded she hired young & inexperienced staff that looked lost and really I couldn’t deal-I only would deal w/Phyllis and I was still stressed. She takes on a lot of business which is great for her but I wasn’t the only bride dealing in the 11th hour. Extremely Frustrating!
Veil & Tiara-A+++++
Barrons @ Tri-County-I got exactly what I asked for. It took 2 or 3 times to find the tiara I wanted but once I found it-I knew it would complete the look. I even wanted 2 rhinestone swirls taken off and he did it with no problem. I had them give me a cathedral & a blusher both with Velcro to remove and attach at my leisure. No problem.
Tuxes-A+++++
Tuxedo Park, Carle Place-We dealt with Ben and he was really nice. I wanted the guys in chocolate brown tuxes. I searched high and low and finally found it in the window at Tuxedo Park. DH was like-“I think you’re going a bit far with these colors” until he saw the Tux. He really liked it-beautiful color by Calvin Klein. Once I got him on board we made an appt for fittings for our boys and DH. The staff was awesome and served us wine while we waited. ? The day before the wedding we picked up everyone’s tuxes DH’s jacket was too small and my son’s shoes were too big. Not their fault b/c DH should have got refitted and we told them a larger size thinking by the time of the wedding he would fit into the shoes. They had the correct sizes sent via overnite-The Day of The Wedding!! Everything worked out.
Day of Jewelry-A+++++
Tri-County Booth-Earrings-I wanted chandelier but found nothing that I was flipping over. The week of the wedding I found my earrings at Tri-County and they worked.
Nadri @Nordstrom-Bracelet-I LOVE my bracelet. I wish they had more pieces like earrings without the clear crystals and/or more of a vintage feel.
Shoes-A+++++
My Glass Slipper.com-I ordered my shoes from them. Perfect delivery. The shoes were a bit expensive but totally worth it! They were so hot!!! I trashed them at OWG. I ordered the Grazia shoes and a pair of platform flip-flops in the same height. I wore the flip flops for the Reception.

Dance Lessons-A+++++
Jeff Sherman @ betucandance.com-Jeff Sherman is so great! He is super nice and outgoing. DH rolled his eyes when I brought up lessons but I felt like everyone would be staring at us and we needed to at least be coordinated. Jeff has an awesome studio set up and is extremely professional. He had us completely comfortable and we timed it down to the seconds and I was able to direct the DJ properly about when to call out all of the guests to join in. Most importantly, the shots SIB got of our dips and turns in the dance are FABULOUS! Totally worth it!! It was also a great break in all the wedding planning to have time alone and to learn some steps that we can use again in the future.
BM DRESSES-A+++++
Bill Levkoff/Phyllis @ Gownfind-I wanted to give Phyllis more business b/c my dress was there already. Her prices were great and we had no problem with the order. All girls ordered through her.
BM Alterations & Shoes -C
Phyllis @ Gownfind-My girls each went to get fitted-no problems until my SIL was supposed to pick up her dress and shoes and she drove from JERSEY on her appt date and the dress wasn’t ready nor were the shoes even dyed!!! I was really upset. One of us should have gotten a call stating this prior to her appt. so she didn’t have to drive unnecessarily. One of the new girls ordered the wrong color, etc. Again, I believe it was about communication and I did follow up w/Phyllis about it. The shoe dying is a new addition to her business-again tried to keep everything at 1 shop but they came out looking mangled. All shoes were new & bought through her and they had spots of discoloration as well as 1 had seams sticking up-a $60-70 pair of shoes??!!! You couldn’t see the shoes too much b/c of the style of the dress and they were ok but I’ve seen better-my girls were awesome and ****** it up.
FG Dresses-A+++++
TJ MAXX-I went in the store during Easter and found both dresses! Perfect $23.00 each I couldn’t beat it!!
Card Box-A+++++
For The Modern Bride-Beautiful card box!
Communication and Delivery-D
I understand that Stella had a lot going on. I am a mother-I get it but the communication was awful. I don’t want a standard message when I ask for an update. I want to either speak to a live person or I want a response directly to my order. Although I did get one-it took forever for a response. I ordered it in April of 2006 and it was delivered the Wed. prior to my wedding. Unacceptable!

Embroidered Items-A+++++
Ebay Seller-Linen Classics-Our monogram was another aspect of the wedding that I wanted to have on items that I would use after the wedding. I ordered a table runner, my hankie, MIL, MOB and FOB hankies and a dress label. All items were beautiful and delivery was great!
Honeymoon-A+++++
Royal Hideaway, Riviera Maya, Mexico-I absolutely loved this place!! Our experience was wonderful. We ate and drank until we were disgusted with ourselves! Great variety of restaurants and it never feels crowded. The grounds were beautiful, the infinity pool was amazing and the service was top notch!! There is pool side & beach side service for drinks and food which was great!! Cabanas and 5 course lunches in the restaurants. All of the food was great and we really had a relaxing time. Concierge desk in each building. There is a small shopping area across the street which is convenient and is not really that much more $$ than the shopping on 5th Avenue. Definitely recommend this place and we definitely will be going back.

MOB
Dress-Bridal Suuite-Centereach-A+++++
5 days before the wedding MOB picked out her dress!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't believe that she did this but they hooked her up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She got her dress, shoes and alterations within 5 days and she looked FABULOUS! AND get this she is a PLUS MOB!!! Can you believe that they took care of her so well. Love them!
MOG-she is a size 10 and no problem buying an off the rack, reduced price dress w/ minimal alterations. Her shoes however were a different story-she ended up the week of the wedding with no shoes due to a dying of shoes situation with Phyllis @ Bridal Experience-so she went to Craft Shoes in Commack and they did a fabulous job!!! The shoes were great and the dying job was perfect. I would recommend them to anyone!!!
Hair-Chirstina@Christina's Place, Valley Stream-A++++++
Chirstina is amazing!!! She is the only one that I will allow to actually CUT my hair. She is on the money with style and products!! She took care of my mother. my mother in law, my sister-in-law and my great aunt-80yrs old!! She has her own opinion on everything!! She loved Christina-check her out girls-you will love her!! Good Luck!!!

Re: My 07-28-07 Wedding Review

If you have pics saved in an album somewhere- like in shutterfly or here on LIW, you just right click on the picture you want, then select properties. Under properties, copy the URL under location. When you come back to your post, click 'Insert Web Image' right under the emoticons. Then you paste the URL in there. sooo easy!

There's also a shortcut- just type
[I M G] without the spaces between letters and paste the URL in this space then type [/ IMG] without the space after /

let me know if you have trouble!
