My 4-22-06 review! Hamlet Willow Creek, Burtons, Jamie Collins, Rambling Rose (UPDATED REVIEW), Inkspun, Details of Elegance and many more
Although I was stressed and tired from all the planning,
my day was wonderful and all of the hard work from my mom,
my sister and me really paid off. It was a beautiful wedding and
I am very fortunate to have a wonderful family help and support me throughout everything
and I am also lucky that Mike didn't strangle me in the process!!
This site has also been an invaluable resource and I found many of my vendors
through here- some good, some bad....but the good ones are the ones that I will remember.
Most of you know that my day was not as smooth as it should have been but nonetheless,
it was amazing and it the moment that I caught Michael's eye down that aisle will be a moment
I will cherish forever.
I made a few mistakes throughout the process and I definitely wasted some money
here and there but in the end I am soo proud of my wedding and I have received nothing
but rave reviews......I wouldn't have it any other way.
My Advice:
-programs were not necessary and I am glad I have another $100-200 in my pocket
-you can save money if you get your makeup done in a salon - mine was $65
-if you are using a shuttle for your guests, arrange your own ride for your husband and you. The guest shuttle will arrive right at the end of the night. You will probably have some things to take care of after that time -and the shuttle will have to wait for you. I recommend negotiationg a ride for you and DH to your Bridal Night Hotel/Suite etc.
-Take at least one day in-between the wedding and honeymoon to take care of the money, pack, relax and sleep! We did not feel like we missed anything by staying home for one day before the honeymoon
-Get a massage the day before- thanks SPITSBRIDE! I did this and it helped me to relax!
-Get your teeth cleaned as close as you can to the wedding- even if you are doing whitening, the teeth cleaning really makes your teeth sparkle
-Stay away from people that stress you out! If they often ask you stressful wedding questions or make their opinions known, then stay away from them! Don't even put yourself in the situation of putting up with that garbage ..
-CONFIRM what time all of your vendors will be showing up, and get it in your contract to be able to get a discount for tardiness!!!!!
-Hire a Day of Coordinator- I kick myself for not doing this..I think my day would have been saved if someone else was worrying for me....I can't believe I did not think of this before the wedding :(
-Smile alot in your pics!!!
OK...
On to the review!
SHOWER

Maninno's in Commack on Commack Road-10

My family planned the most beautiful shower for me at Maninnos. The food was superb, we had Penne A La Vodka, Cranberry Walnut Salad and Choice of Chicken, Veal or Fish. The presentation was wonderful and I could not have been happier with the restuarant selection. The restaurant comfortably accommodated 30-40 people on one side.
My Mom made me the adorable towel cake, the actual cake was provided by the restaurant (and was delicious) and my sister did the shopping bag invitations and the cake cookes, among many other things.
My sister had the best idea- instead of wishing well, she asked that each guest bring a bottle of wine to add to my collection. That was the BEST idea- I wound up with almost 2 cases of decent wine, and it lasted DH and I a very long time!:
Here are some pictures from theshower:
REHEARSAL DINNER
-----------------------------
Rosewood Inn- Melville, NY-10
CLICK FOR THE LINK
My MIL booked the Rosewood Inn in Melville for a Friday night party of approximately 40 people. I beleive she paid about $45.95 per person for appetizers on each table, salad, main course and cake. This also included wine, beer and soda.
The food was very good- its the Chef from Cirella's, and the atmosphere is cozy and warm.
There is also a nice bar area for people to have drinks before or after, and the service was decent.
For attire, I fell in love with a dress from Ann Taylor. I saw it in person at their store, looked at it a million times on their website, then finally purchased it. Mike wore a suit. Mike and I dress up often so we encouraged our guests to dress up as well. The Rosewoon Inn is casual but our attire was fine for the event.
HALL
------
Hamlet Willow Creek - 10
CLICK FOR THE LINK
The hall was the one thing that I did not worry about at all.
It was the first thing I booked and it was the only place I visited.
Hamlet WIllow Creek was amazing....I booked it without being inside-
only by seeing a DVD video of what the hall should look like. We took a chance
and boy were we thrilled with the result. The dvd was EXACTLY like
the way the hall looked...it was amazing down to every detail.
The rooms are homey, yet elegant. Its the feel of a modern country club but yet
very warm and cozy with a gorgeous fireplace and mantle with cushy sofas and
beveled mirrors. The reception room has modern chandeliers and a beautiful veranda
overlooking a golf course and there is a side club room that has a glass wine cellar and
granite counters...it is ultimate class and elegance yet simple and tasteful.
The view of the golf course is breathtaking and you do not need to go somewhere else for pictures-
we took them all on the premises. It was pouring rain for part of my day and we still got
a bunch of beautiful outside pictures when it stopped.Especially the veranda with the white pillars..
those are my favorite pictures.
The matre'd Barbara is what really sold me on the place. See was extremely professional,
honest and talented. From the start I could tell she had the same taste as me so I used many
of her suggestions and I am so glad I did- she really knows what she is talking about!! Listen to Barbara!!!
Barbara went ABOVE and BEYOND for me. She was soo patient and kind to me throughout the
planning process. She was also extremely on-the-ball. She wrote back to all of my emails within a
few hours- even on nights after an event- I saw some emails come through at 1 am!
She is amazing and I feel like words can not do her justice.
When my dj was late she spent so much time trying to call replacements and
she had a backup plan to download songs onto an ipod and hook it up with
speakers...my day would have been fine and she reassured me.
She is also very on top of her staff..the staff was professional and extremely efficient.
They brought drinks to the tables for each guest like clockwork. People were amazed
at the service....they covered our meals when it got cold..they gave you seconds if you asked for it
and the waiters were well trained and acted like adults.
The food was amazing..there were soo many things to choose from
on the menu that I had a hard time. The sushi bar is included in the price (most places
you pay more for that) and also things like lamb chops, shrimp and salmon etc.
To this day we are still getting calls or emails about how great the food was at the Hamlet.
The portions were huge and presented like a 5 start restaurant. We had filet mignon,
tilapia and a horseradish chicken. For the appetizer we had shrimp risotto and followed by
a citrus vinegarette salad and goat cheese crostini. For dessert we had the cheese cake mousse in
a tulle almond shell..TO DIE FOR!!!!!!!! And my cake was AMAZING....I sent them a picture and they
made it even more gorgeous then I expected....it was a STUNNING cake and it was moist and the
white chocolate mousse and strawberry filling was delicious!!!
I wish I could write a book because fh and I were soo impressed with the wedding there
that words can not even describe.

PHOTOGRAPHER
-----------------
Jamie Collins- 10
CLICK FOR THE LINK
Jamie was amazing....she is also another person that went above and beyond the call of
duty. She was soo great from the start- we had our engagement session and she really blew us
away with her talent- even as she was 9 months pregnant- she catches every movement- every moment..
she is laying on the ground, standing on a rock, peeping through grass..she really gets her hands dirty in her job
and its so obvious she loves what she does because you can see it in her creativity and desire to get good pictures.
MY ENGAGEMENT PICTURES
MY ENGAGEMENT PICTURES
On my wedding day she arrived at my house early and got me walking in with my mom and
all of my bridesmaids coming into the house...she got things that didn't seem significant at the time
but were very touching in the pictures- like pics of my parents carrying my wedding dress and of my
mom crying as she laid it on the bed...pics of me fixing my dad and of my bridesmaids reaction as i walked out of the room
after getting dressed....throughout the day she grabbed mike and I to get a moment outside
when the rain stopped..she did all of my must take pictures without a hitch and many, many more.
Usually I dont care for dancing pics but she got some really great ones from the reception of my guests
that they can all enjoy as well.
The best part is that I was only expecting Jamie to come but she brought her assistant, Ian, who was also
a true gem and just as talented as Jamie. Ian dropped Jamie off at my house then met the boys at the church
to take pics of Mike and his family. It was a huge relief because I did not know how those pictures would be taken but
it all worked out in the end and Jamie didn't even charge me for the second photographer.
Throughout the night Jamie and Ian were there for me when I was stressed out...they were so kind
and patient and a few times I was brought to tears just thanking them for being so awesome.
In addition Jamie send me 3,000 proofs the next day and I had them the day I returned from my honeymoon.
That effort alone was priceless. I could go on and on....but Jamie and Ian
did an amazing job. They can be pricey...but TRUST ME...they are worth their weight in gold and I
am over the moon about my proofs.
MY PROOFS
SOME OF MY PROOFS
Me holding Jamies hand- because she was so helpful all day
Me telling Jamie how awesome she is - i was about to cry just thanking her
Some amazing moments that she captured that mean alot to me:

Nick was a pleasure to work with- he really is a wonderful and professional man, also a sweetheart! He was completely unobtrusive- we hardly even knew that he was there! He did an AMAZING job on my baby photo montage- the guests adored it! I cant wait to see what he does with my video. I know it will be spectacular - I have no doubt!
UPDATED! -My video is gorgeous!!! I let the guys at RR pick the songs and I couldnt be happier! Its such an elegant video! The best is that I was able to look at it on the internet at work and review it and make necessary changes. I am so glad I was able to do this. They really captured every moment and I love the work they did. Truly awesome! I think RR is the bargain of the century- and if you can, get the Movie effects added in- totally worth it!!! I just love my video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LIMOUSINE
----------
Sir Oliver- 10
CLICK FOR THE LINK
We ordered a stretch Hummer for the bridal party and a 1930 Cadillac for Mike and I.
My drivers, Rich and Tim were amazing. They were on time, the cars were clean
and beautiful, they were super friendly and patient and my 1930's cadillac driver,
Rich, was especially great. We did a photo session after the church. He was the best at keeping
my dress clean and also great at keeping the umbrella over me. He would hide behind a tree then jump
out to keep me covered. He also was the person that picked us up after the wedding to take us to Danfords.
He was sweet and friendly and his car ran super well. He was also great at putting the runner down
and keeping me calm before I walked down the aisle. Sir Oliver was GREAT, the prices were fair
and I would recommend them to anyone!
Here is the driver hiding behind a tree!!! He was awesome!!!
GUEST SHUTTLE
---------------
Elite Transportation- 10
CLICK FOR THE LINK
I got a 28 person van for guests to and from the hotel/reception. They were on time, the cars were
very nice, from what I heard, and they dealt with all the drunks that were annoying and rude.
Elite is definitely a great company to use and they had the best prices on the Island.
FRANK SINATRA SINGER IMPERSONATOR
---------------------------------
Maurice Michaux - 9 (a bit on the expensive side)
CLICK FOR THE LINK
Maurice I found on the internet on Google. Since I looked into a Sinatra singer merely 45 days before my wedding,
no one on Long Island was there to help me out. I ended up with Maurice, he had wonderful samples on his
website. Considering he was travelling from Baltimore, he gave me a reasonable price. He also
had tons of backup speakers and equipment and he was able to cover for me if my DJ had not shown up.
Maurice really wowed the crowd with his singing and he danced up to the ladies and he dressed like Frank in a tux.
I was completely impressed with his impersonation and voice and he was a huge hit.
FLORIST
-------
Flowers By Burton- 10
CLICK FOR THE LINK
From the start Burtons wowed me with their prices...I had 15 high centerpieces, I asked for very full,
6 bm bouquet and 1 MOH bouquet, unlimited boutonnieres, unlimited corsages, pew bows with hydrangea
and 2 topiaries for the church made of fresh flowers in a clay pot. The flowers from the samples were
gorgeous however some colors that I did not like were in them. They spent over an hour with me
there spraying hydrangeas and picking out flowers and replacing them until I had the perfect combination.
They were soooooo patient with me. Also they made me a sample bridesmaid bouquet as a favor to me...a
and I loved it......I left there that day knowing my flowers would be beautiful.
But on the day of, when my bouquet arrived, i was FLOORED- it was STUNNING- totally beyond my
expectations....I was in tears at how beautiful they were.....then, at the reception, when I didn't think
the flowers could get better than my modified sample, I was completely BLOWN AWAY with my centerpieces..
each one was gorgeous...the flowers were healthy blooming and they just were simply amazing..
words cant describe...so many people thought I hired a celebrity florist to do my flowers..they were
that nice.
My advice to you is to please give them a picture of what you want and they will easily re-create it.
As long as you are VERY specific about what you want they will make your dreams come alive.
I told them- stems showing on the bouquets- satin ribbon only - i was VERY specific and they went
beyond my expectations. I was utterly amazed. If you are using Burton's you have nothing to worry about.
Just be SPECIFIC!
WEDDING GOWN AND BRIDESMAID DRESSES
---------------
Burton's
ME-- Private Label By G in Ivory/Silver- 10
Girls- Bill Levkoff- Euro Sage - 8
CLICK FOR THE LINK
Burtons is a no-frills kind of place. Their dresses are the best prices (aside from
internet retailers) and their seamstress will do whatever you want her to do - and
amazingly.
Burtons was the 3rd place I tried on dresses. After I was about to leave, Carole, the owner,
picked a dress for me that looked like something I had rejected earlier. She told me to trust her.
I tried it on- bingo- Mom is crying and I am feeling like this is the ONE.
I only had 1 'fitting' where they made alterations. The second fitting the dress was perfect so
I didn't need further alterations.
The bridesmaid dresses were a different story kind of. All the girls complained that their dresses
were humongous on them...and that the staff was 'not friendly'. They also didn't really care for
the availability of appointments. HOWEVER they got 30%off their dresses (because I got my gown there),
they cap alterations at $45 and at the end of the day the dresses fit well and there were no complaints.
I guess I could have picked $400 dresses from a fancy bridal salon with smiling customer service faces,
but I wanted the girls to get an affordable dress since I knew they would never wear it again...
MOM OF THE BRIDE GOWN
------------
Carmella's Bridal Garden DO NOT TRUST THEM- THEY TRIED TO SELL MY SISTER A FAKE EVE OF MILADY DRESS FOR HER WEDDING!!!!
TUXES
--------
After Hours Tuxedo - Roosevelt Field Mall- 5
Do not go to this place. The staff is completely unorganized.
They took the wrong measurements for the guys and they messed up the color scheme of the vest and ties.
It was supposed to be ivory tie with black vest- they gave the guys CANARY YELLOW vests after the order was changed MONTHS
before the wedding. Groomsman were picking up yellow vests the day before the wedding so instead of relaxing, I was
on the phone with 6 tuxedo locations changing the ties around and also fighting with Mike. And yes we did recheck the color of the
vests about 3 times and After Hours still got it wrong. On my day all of the tuxes were correct except for Mikes groomsman who
ended up with a black tie. But I never would have noticed if it was not pointed out to me.
Also many of the vests and jackets were ILL FITTING. NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL. However the guys
did look handsome with the tie and vest combination so I will post a picture.

Danfords was great- they blocked rooms at $149 a night, they added more on after the black out date
and our bridal suite was beautiful. I only spend a few hours in the hotel myself but they were
very accommodating to my guests and they kept the bar open until 3:30 in the morning so
our after party was rockin!! Definitely recommended!!

Emely is a vendor on LIW. She did a great job! She was fast, courteous and she gave me the ultimate
BEST prices on my Checkerboard invitations. I loved my invitations and with her prices I was able to afford them.
She even gave me an adorable little gift basket for choosing her services.
She also gave me a great quote on menu cards. I did not use her because I was
under a time constraint (my fault) but I would have if I had more time.
Emely was HIGHLY recommended!!!

-------------
Reaves Engraving - 10

We wanted calligraphy but the affordable ones were even expensive in my eyes.
Reaves uses a mechanical quill pen so it looks like calligraphy done by hand, when in fact it is done by a machine.
The price was great so we used them. Jo at Reaves was awesome. She answered all of my questions
promptly and her turnaround time was great. I definitely recommend them. They are true professionals and I am extremely happy
with the results.
CHURCH
-------
St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church in Dix Hills- 10
CLICK FOR THE LINK
St. Matthews is my hometown church where I was baptized and
confirmed. Deacon Hanly, my old High School Vice Principal was
the deacon that officiated our ceremony. He was so kind and friendly to
us and he really performed a humorous yet meaningful ceremony.
I am so glad that we used him. He is organized and efficient.
The organist was Donna Olsen - she is really sweet and she played everything I requested.
The cantor, Carl Olsen, has a wonderful voice and he sang many beautiful songs during our ceremony.
St. Matthews was also extremely easy to deal with. They had no issues with aisle runners,
throwing petals, giving us directions and being available to answer any questions.
They also let us use pre-cana from ANY STATE so we went in CT where it was a one day-
six hour course and got it done on one Saturday afternoon.
MAKEUP

Bocu Salon & Day Spa in Commack, NY - Pam - 10

Pam was great the price was very reasonable and she did a wonderful job
while keeping me laughing on my wedding day when I was a nervous wreck. She is
a true talent and she will sell you any products to use on your day. I was soo happy with my
makeup- everyone says that their makeup stays on all night and I always thought that
was a crock- but to be honest it STAYED ON ALL NIGHT- and all i needed was a lipstick touch up.
She also did my Mom's makeup and my mom was so happy with hers. She's a great person and a great
makeup artist.

HAIR

Bocu Salon and Day Spa- Gary - 10

Gary is amazing. I showed him a Picture of what I wanted, and he recreated it even better than I expected.
I LOVED my trial, and I LOVED EVEN MORE my day-of hair. It stayed in all night. It didn't move. And it was comfortable.
He also created a style for my Mom that she loved. We were both extremely happy with our hair. Gary is VERY talented.
Tell him what you want and he will do it for you.
SHOES

I found these shoes unexpectedly in Macy's. They were comfortable reasonably priced,
and looked great with my dress in ivory (also would look good with a champagne dress as well).
VEILS AND EARRINGS
----
Estelle's Dressy Dresses- 9 (messed veil order up)
CLICK FOR THE LINK
I ordered 2 veils. One 2- tier elbow veil for the reception and one
cathedral veil with blusher. Combined they both cost less than
$225. They arrived at Estelle's within 2 weeks- unfortunately they ordered one of the incorrectly,
but other than that, they worked out just fine and after some steaming with a steamer, were ready to wear.
I also purchased my earrings from Estelles. I just chose a simple pair off the rack for $16.
I had doubts- and considered a bigger earring, but I'm glad I stuck with the simple pair.
For $16 you cant go wrong.

FAVORS
-------
Fondue KIts through my sister's company- 10
My sister ordered fondue kits from her company which is a home products wholesaler.
I chose them from her company store and she ordered 109 of them at 40% off. She was such a saint
because she lugged them to and from her car - they were not light!! But the guests loved them
and at the end of the day, they were worth the effort.

FAVOR TAGS
-----------
EBAY Seller 'Madtean'- 10
CLICK FOR THE LINK
She sent me about 20 proofs of favor tags before I made my decision but in
the end she was efficient and quick and she did a beautiful job on the tags.
They were also super affordable and it was nice to personalize the favors with her tags.
MENU CARDS
------------
COSTCO Online j/v w/ E-Invite.com - 10

Costco on-line had a great joint venture with e-invite.com so they
sell some of e-invites invitations at 30% off, and e-invite prints them for you.I picked the most basic
and plain invitation and typed the wording of the menu by hand on-line. Then I was able to see a free preview of my work.
The menus looked great so I ordered them. 10 minutes later a representative from e-invites told me the font I chose
was too big and suggested a different font. I was so thankful they called instead of just printing them
and wasting my money. The new font looked great and I received my menus in 2 days. I was VERY impressed
and the menus cost only .63 each. My mom later on added 1 crystal to the top of each one for embellishment.

I ordered these boy shorts on their on-line sale for 18.95
with 'Mrs. Mauro' on them. They had Swarovski crystals on them
and were shipped soo quickly. They fit great (i ordered size Medium)
and they washed nice too. Mike also thought they were adorable!

DANCE LESSONS
--------------
Maria Fiore- We are the Music in Stamford, CT- 10
CLICK FOR THE LINK
Mike and I purchased a package of 7 private lessons. Our instructor,
Jared, really taught us how to dance. Mike took a liking to the lessons and to dancing
and Jared taught us some basic moves and we ourselves were able to choreograph our own routine with
the steps that Jared taught us. Was dancing lessons mandatory for me? Probably not.
They were expensive and time consuming. Did they add a nice touch to the wedding? Yes and I am
glad that we did it. Mike really shocked me with his interest in the lessons and in a way, they also
made us closer and when he did his dance that night and led me the whole way through, it was
definitely a nice moment and many people noticed and complimented us on this.
HONEYMOON
---------------------
Parrot Cay Resort and Shambhala Spa - Turks and Caicos Islands - 10
CLICK FOR THE LINK
Parrot Cay was amazing. The best thing is that the plane ride is a 3 hour direct flight from NY to Providenciales. Then a van picked you up and took you to a boat dock. The boat was large yacht and they served us refreshments. We took a 40 minute ride over to the private island of Parrot Cay which is also the name of the resort on this island.
We did the sun and seclusion package which included an ocean view room, a bottle of champagne, a couples massage, a snorkeling trip, fruit bowl daily and dinner and breakfast daily. It was a wonderful package and we enjoyed every second of it.
The food there is very expensive, so lunch, the only meal that was not included ran about $70 for 1 side salad, a chicken wrap, 1 beer and 1 cocktail. We were glad dinner was free. Drinks were $16 each +20% tax/tip. It was definitely not cheap.
The resort has 58 rooms and half of them are private villas with their own pool. So the pool was never crowded. You almost felt like 'what am i missing? where is everybody?' but we got over that really really fast.
The food is amazing. Probably the best food I've ever had. Just as good as any fancy manhattan restaurant. In the two restaurant we ate filet mignon, sea bass, sushi, lamb chops and they also offered a spa menu with low-fat and healthy choices which were also quite tasty.
Our room was chic but elegant. We had a large terrace with a table and chairs and also a big chair and a half with white cushions and pillows (washed every single day). The products they replenished daily were from the spa (and sold for $20 each) and they were free in your room. They were AMAZING!! I would steal them every day to get a new free set.
The pool was gorgeous. We laid on thick terry cushions on teak loungers. At 1200 they gave out cool washcloths that had eucalyptus essence..it was nice to put that on my forehead for a while. At 2:00 they gave out tea infused ice pops. Definitely a nice touch. They also handed out waters to every person that sat on a beach chair.
The beach the sand is soooo fine almost like flour. Its also very light beige and super soft. The water is crystal clear- the nicest water i have ever seen.
The staff is soooo friendly and sweet. They cater to you and really really make this place what it is- which is wonderful. We also had a boat trip included in our package but the day we wanted to go was very choppy so we got another couples massage instead. Amazing!!!!
The spa is awesome- it puts fancy spas to shame. The staff is super professional and they gave fabulous massages- we each had 1 deep tissue and 1 Shambala massage.
On a side note we booked this trip through Vicki who works at Linden travel in NYC. They are a 'virtuoso' travel agent and they were able to get us the free snorkeling trip on our package because we booked through her.
She also hooked us up on the flight. We paid $740 per person for a stopover flight originally. Then the price went down she got us $240 off each ticket, THEN American Airlines started offering non-stop service so she changed our tickets again and saved us even MORE money! She was awesome!!!
Parrot Cay was unbelievable and I would recommend it to anyone.
