Review- Barcelo Maya, Riviera Maya, Xcaret, and pictures!
Hey ladies, I saw some posts about people vacationing/honeymooning in Riviera Maya- thought I'd share my experience. FH and I just returned from the Barcelo Maya all inclusive hotel- we stayed on the Colonial side, which was the best of the four to stay on- no new construction and 100 feet from the beach. It was absolutely georgous! I was so impressed. the resort itself had beautiful botanical gardens everyone, and it was spotless. There were always people cleaning everything from the lobby, to the beach, and our room was always refreshed with bottled water, soft drinks and beer in the fridge. The staff was extremely nice- most of them spoke English; they seem to really appreciate it when you speak in their language (fluent or not). I can speak it pretty well, but FH- not so well (he told the waitress he was pleased to meet her when she asked if he liked his dinner)- but they are very patient with people attempting to speak Spanish. The food was wonderful, and once I asked for drinks made with little alchohol, the drinks were also (they tended to make them extremely strong otherwise!).We also went to Xcaret for the day- it was incredible! We went on the underground river, snorkeled in the lagoon, played with the macaws, visited the butterfly garden, and saw their animals. Xcaret is an ecological park, and it has ruins as well.
We also saw several other hotels while picking up passengers from the airport. Secrets was beatiful! It is tucked away behind huge gates and beautiful trees, so it is not visible from the road ( which isn;'t a main road at all- it's very private), we also saw the Riu- which seemed really pretty, it was right down the road from a quaint little shopping district. We also saw the Aventura- which is a luxury hotel. It is right on a marina and had a stunning view, but I wasn't terribly impressed with the grounds- not a lot of greenery, and everything was very spread out, giving the impression that a lot of walking or taking a golf cart was necessary.
Enjoy the pics, if anyone has any questions, let me know!
