Review of my Nov 4, 2005 wedding @ Timber Point, with Burtons, High Voltage, Hampton Inn, Hawaii honeymoon, Gownfind, Shamus Coach and more . . .
Timber Point Country Club: A+++Everything was fabulous, I cannot praise Timber Point enough. The maitre'd (Steve) was so helpful and made sure everything was perfect. He paid so much attention to us and our parents, but was never in our way. The wedding would not have been half as great without Steve running the show. The food at Timber Point was excellent, people could not stop raving about it and they were so impressed that each and every one of their entrees actually came to them when it was hot. The timing with serving the entrees was perfect. We had the chateau briand, chicken florentine, and blackened mahi mahi and each one was delicious. Cocktail hour food was great too, there was plenty of everything, especially the passed hor'douerves, they never ran out of them. There was not one little glitch in our wedding (timing of everything was perfect) so I really cannot praise Timber Point and the staff there enough. The people we worked with before the wedding (sales associates) were okay - not as friendly and helpful as Steve, but all that matters is the actual day which could not have been better.
Hampton Inn (Islandia): A+++
Great hotel, good price and was easy to reserve a block of rooms. We liked this hotel for the location (Rte 454 & LIE) and the fact that they had continental breakfast included every morning, that way guests can easily go downstairs and gather for breakfast instead of finding somewhere local to drive to. Also, the best part was that the hotel had a 'hospitality suite' that they rented out to us for the night before our wedding through the morning after our wedding (1 and 1/2 days). All of the guests were allowed to hang out in here as often as they wanted too and we were able to stock the room with soda, snacks and beer in coolers for our guests; they all LOVED the hospitality suite!
Shamus Coach: A+++
We rented a coach bus to pick up our out of town guests at the hotel, take them to the church, back to the hotel during the down time between church and reception, and bring them to and from reception. This was a great idea, all of the hotel guests loved it and the bus company was wonderful. They were very affordable (especially compared to getting luxury limo/bus from the limousine company) and perfectly on time everywhere, I would definitely recommend this company.
M&V Limousines: A-
They were on time but did not know how to get to the church from the house he picked up the groomsmen at (only about 5 miles away). Driver was very helpful during church ceremony (laid out white runner because there was no wedding director at church) and lined us all up to walk down aisle. My one complaint was the he drove a little fast and was heavy on the brakes so that 2 or 3 of us were feeling sick to our stomachs from the drive from the church to the reception.
M&F Florist (for centerpieces only): B-
The centerpieces were okay. They came included with Timber Point's deal, so we had to use M&F, unless we wanted to pay a lot of extra money. The selection of which centerpieces were included in the deal was tiny. I had heard of people paying to upgrade the centerpieces from M&F and being disappointed with what they got, so I didn't want to pay extra just to be disappointed. I selected a plain but pretty daisy centerpiece with pink and white daisies.
Burton's Flowers (for everything besides centerpieces): A
Everything was exactly as I expected and delivered on time. When we met to discuss final flowers choices, they gave us lots of suggestions to match the dresses, etc. and they turned out beautiful. Decent price, reliable service, I definitely recommend them.
Black Forest Bakery: A+++++
This is the bakery that Timber Point uses in their package. I met with Tommy and he went through all the different designs with me. He was very helpful and the cake turned out absolutely beautiful and exactly what I expected. Delicious, too! Chocolate cake with a layer of vanilla mousse and raspberry mousse.
Photographer: A++++++++++
My husband's cousin - lives in Texas and is a professional photographer. Our pictures are beautiful. We did not have a videographer.
High Voltage Sounds - Vinny: A++++++++
Vinny is the best DJ. His prices are about 1/2 of everyone else's because he works out of his house. We met with him a couple of times to discuss what we liked and didn't like. He did a perfect job playing the type of music we wanted and getting people up and dancing without being an annoying 'in your face' DJ. He also gave us several good ideas when we met with him for specific songs to use during certain parts of the wedding and they were a huge success.
Gownfind - Phyllis (my dress): A++++++
Phyllis runs a dress shop out of her house so she gives big discounts on almost all designer dresses. I had a Maggie Sottero dress that I tried on at Bay Shore Bridal and loved. A friend told me about Phyllis so I met with her and she ordered me the exact dress from Maggie Sottero and charged me $400 less. Everything is discounted through her since she doesn't have many expenses. I also ordered all of my lingerie, my veil, and jewelry through her. She does bridesmaid and Mother of bride dresses, shoes, invitations, tiaras, etc. She also caps the alterations at $150, which is great. I have heard of people paying $600 for alterations.
Carmela's Bridal Garden: A-
We ordered the bridesmaid dresses from here. We got a good price on the dress, but there were some dresses there that were twice the price that I had seen in other stores. I don’t know why, since the dress we wanted was the same price as other stores. A little expensive for alterations ($60 for taking in a 1/4 inch tuck), but it seems like many places rip you off on the alterations.
RSVP Tuxedos - Bay Shore: A
Great selection, very helpful. Everyone's tux fit perfectly the first time. Prices seemed a bit high but everything was perfect so it didn't really matter.
Butterfields Restaurant: A
We had our rehearsal dinner at Butterfields in Hauppauge. The food was fabulous, people were talking about it all night and the price was right too. Well, I thought a little expensive for a rehearsal dinner, but compared to everywhere else we checked, it was one of the best prices. The only complaint I have is that the restaurant was a little noisy. We wanted to say something nice about a few people at the dinner, but we couldn't even be heard. Tehre was a band playing there and it was a loud atmosphere. To be fair, we should have asked to borrow the band's microphone since they were just getting set up, but we didn't think of that. Overall though, really nice place with delicious food. Good variety with the menu, too.
Honeymoon in Hawaii: A++++++++++
Hawaii is absolutely beautiful and has so much to do, I cannot imagine a better honeymoon. We went to Maui for 7 days and Kauai for 5 days. We booked the trip through Liberty Travel. We are both big on internet deals, but when we went to Liberty Travel, they were actually able to beat the deals we found on the internet so we booked with them. The only tiny complaint was that on 2 of our flights they did not book us with seats next to each other. We were in the same row though and were able to get people to switch with us. On Maui, we stayed at a bed and breakfast which was so wonderful. A beautiful house with a private lanai, bathroom, jacuzzi. They provided us with free laundry service, internet usage, beach chairs, umbrellas, coolers for picnics, delicious breakfasts, etc. A great deal and a memorable part of our vacation. We had a blast on Maui - we did the bike ride down the volcano and the drive to Hana and loved both. On Kauai, we stayed at the Kiahuna Plantation Resort (a 1 bedroom condo with lanai, kitchen, living room) on Poipu Beach. Great place also. We did a boat cruise of the Na Pali Coast on Kauai, as well as a Helpcopter Tour with Safari Helicopters which we loved.
