Thatched Cottage and Other Reviews

Hi, I will make this short. Recently had my wedding at the Thatched Cottage. It was a great night and lots of good moments. But, i feel I should warn some brides about a few vendors.

First, if you are getting married at the Thatched, you should know that they are right next door to a fire department and they have an extremely loud alarm that goes off in case of fires, and for testing at noon and 6 pm during the week, and at noon on weekends. I was not told this by the Thatched, but heard it when I visited it after booking. So, be forewarned and plan accordingly.

Other than the alarm, the Thatched Cottage is a great place to get married. Beautiful view, great food and service. Although, they could be better about returning phone calls.

Another vendor to watch out for: Clear Choice Limousines

I ordered two 8 passenger limos. They gave us a 'surprise' and sent two 10-20 Hummer Limos that were VERY dark inside and mine kind of smelled. Not such a great surprise.

Vendors I recommend:

Fleurafina (flowers): Rich, the owner, did a great job within our budget. And, he was a pleasure to deal with. The flowers were beautiful and I loved all of the bouquets. Plus, he helped decorate the cake and it looked great! Many compliments on that, too.

MG Hair and Makeup: A bit pricey, but worth it. They travel to you and Jenise was a doll. Very patient and kind. She calmed my nerves the day of b/c I had a few pimples, which she covered up. The hair looked awesome, and I got lots of compliments. Makeup was nice, too, although I'm not used to wearing much makeup.

In the Mood DJ Productions: Pat, the manager, is a pleasure to deal with. She even drove us to the LIRR one day (we live in Brooklyn)! The DJ (Harry) followed our suggestions and we got lots of compliments with the music. They played something for everyone, and were very professional. I asked that the MC not be too intrusive, talkative, etc., and he wasn't.

Ceremony Music: Capriccio Ensemble
Beautiful music. They even arranged two Spanish songs for us (my husband is Puerto Rican) at no extra charge. Director likes to send VERY long emails, so be prepared.

Seamstress: Kiki from Saks Fifth Avenue
Wonderful. She made a few changes and was very patient and kind. It all worked out in the end. I got my dress at Sak's sample sale, but she assured me that she could do whatever was needed to make it work (luckily, not much work was needed).
