5.8.10 Wedding - GIORGIO'S, VERBENA, COUPED UP, TWELFTH NIGHT, SATISFACTION GUARANTEED, LILLETTE'S, FR DAVID GRAINSON, MARIE STACK, LOLA LOVES MAKEUP, COSMETIC ARTISTRY
LIWWhile not a huge poster on the boards, LIW provided me with so many ideas and inspiration. Thank you to all the girls on the 2010 boards especially for everything. I found the reviews so helpful in my search for vendors, that I finally decided to write my own. Hopefully, this review will help other brides like they helped me weigh my decisions. There are alot of high scores, not alot of drama but that's a good thing. I loved all my vendors and am happy with the way everything turned out overall.
Tips: I read on here to eat during your cocktail hour if you have the time in private. We did this and I'm so glad we did or we wouldn't have eaten anything. We saw each other before the ceremony and had all our pictures taken care of. After the ceremony, we went straight upstairs, had some private time and the bridal attendant brought us a sampler of bunch of things. It was the only private moment we had all day and it was nice to tell each other what we were feeling that day.
While details are nice, don't go nuts and stress yourself out. I think people try and do too much DIY and it takes up so much time and effort (and sometimes the savings aren't big). People won't miss things you don't have. i.e. cry packs, programs, napkins, etc. No one will say 'Ugh, cannot believe they didn't give out tissues'..so if you think it's too much, don't worry :)
Girls having a day wedding: I kind of worried about this and the only reason we had it at this time was because it was all Giorgio's had left. In the end, I'm so glad we had it. Everyone still had a great time, it was great to have people be able to come and get home at a decent time and most importantly, I loved the natural light. It was nice to be able to use the outdoors areas, which Giorgio's has alot of, and enjoy the views. The pictures also came out awesome indoors. I don't think having it during the day took away from anything.
Weather - started C and ended A
The forecast was for t-storms and showers. I forget the percentage, but it was pretty high and seemed like a definite thing. I went to Old Navy for some colorful umbrellas and bought rainboots in different colors for the girls who I knew didn't have any. I figured at least we'd get good pictures.

Morning: Woke up and it had rained. It was overcast and gray. We could've taken pictures at the beach at Giorgio's but didn't since we can hear the thunder rumbling. We took some pictures at the garden and thought we would get poured on at any second. DH made them set up inside AND outside b/c we really wanted an outdoor wedding. We ended up doing it outside, last minute. We heard it poured in NYC and parts of LI while our guests were driving there.
Ceremony: a couple of drops, not even a sprinkle before we came out.
During the ceremony, the sun came out and we had a beautiful clear blue sky the rest of the day.

Bridal Shower
Davenport Press - Mineola, NY
The shower was not a surprise. I didn't want to make pretend that I didn't know, so I knew the date but not the location or any other details. I got my hair and makeup done. My bridesmaids and our mom's threw it for us and did an amazing job. Davenport press includes this delicious champagne punch in their price. The service was great, we always had refills and the waiters were always on top of their game. The room had some silly decor, including a big moose head, but it's just the way I wanted it. I wanted it in a small restaurant, not a catering hall and it was perfect.

Bach Party
Wine Tasting & a night at Cliffside Condos in Greenport
I didn't want anything crazy, something really low key where we can just hang out. We went to 4 vineyards in party bus/van, had lunch provided and then went back to the condos for a game night. We went out for dinner in Greenport and called it a night. It's exactly what I wanted, I'm not really into partying hard or getting drunk. I just wanted to spend time with my girls :)
FH didn't even want a Bachelor Party, he's the calmest guy in the world. I suggested Peter Luger followed by some bars and that's what they did. We almost did a Jack & Jill but the girls had already planned the Vineyards. The last thing he wanted was a wild night or for anyone to put him in a situation he didn't want to be put in.
Lillette's - A-
I'll rate Gerri an A+. Gerri was a doll to work with. She helped out out
tremendously. My only requirement was that I did NOT want strapless. She pulled a bunch of dresses, including one I had tried on somewhere else, that I was truly considering (and ultimately chose). She never pressured me, told me to sleep and dream on it and if I wanted it, to come back. When I'd say 'I like this'..she'd say I had to 'love' it. She was right..She was such a sweetheart - patient and caring.
I gave Lillette's less than an A because two days before the wedding I picked up my dress and brought it home. I tried it on at home and noticed that the straps so your bra doesn't come up weren't sewed in as promised just a week before. I had to go back sinceI had a lower cut back and this was important. They were extremely apologetic, professional as always but it was an inconvenience with everything else I had to do that day. They gave me 'Just Married' flip flops for the inconvenience. It was a very minor mishap and I'd still recommend it to a friend.
Gown & Veil
Mikaella
I knew when selecting my dress that I did not want strapless. I really wanted something v-neck and this made the process of finding a dress alot more difficult. It narrowed the options down as I figure about 90% of dresses are strapless. I always had far and few in between to try on anywhere I went. I also did not want to spend more than $1,000 on a dress I was going to wear for one day. My grandmother said she would buy it for me as a gift and whether it was paid by her or myself, I just didn't want to pay over that price. It ended up costing $1,050
I also wanted something 'bridal' but without looking like a cupcake since I'm 5'0 and weigh 115 pounds. At times I felt I settled on the dress, but after all was said and done I'm happy I chose it. It's just what I wanted, had just enough 'poof' and I loved the way it looked.
I went to Barron's for my veil and they were really rude to my friend and I. I also thought them to be expensive since a veil that matched my dress in Lillette's cost me the same price as they quoted me ($150). I wanted something long, but not cathedral and loved the way the veil cascaded in the back, just like the rest of my dress cascaded.

Shoes
I ordered them on DSW.com and got them based on comfort ratings. I wanted somewhat of a heel since I'm so short but nothing I couldn't manage. These cost me 55 bucks and I added Dr. Scholl's arch support to extra comfort. I walked around the house with them in the month before the wedding and they lasted me almost through the whole reception. It wasn't until my friend reminded me about my flip flops that I changed.

I got my white flip-flops from Totes (Isotoners). They were .5 inch shorter than my heels, but looked fine. Cheap and comfy.
BM Dresses
Ann Taylor Occassions
I wanted something cheap. I was very concious about the bridesmaids spending money, so I wanted something cheap. The dresses were on sale for $140, I loved that they were non-strapless, had pockets, had a 'spring' feel with the flower sash and didn't need alterations. The girls ordered their true size and it worked out great. They all said they loved that they were comfortable. I also like the way dark colors photographed and thought the color made the pink flowers really stand out. My one friend was pregnant and she found a maternity dress that matched almost exactly and used the sash for our dress.

Tuxedos - B+
S & S Tuxedos - Hicksville, NY
We got a good deal and received the DH's tux free and dad's half price. We liked that they have everything in stock so if anyone had any last minute changes, they'd have it there. Our Bet Man lost a ton of weight within a couple of weeks by exercising and they had no problem fitting him at the end.
We changed the colors from diamond white to white after my dress came in whiter than I thought. We were packing the car to leave for the hotel and DH happened to look at the tux. He looked at the tie and vest and realized they didn't match !!! One was off white and the other one was white! He had to go just as we were leaving to pick up the right one. So glad he checked last minute or it would've been bad realizing this mistake from Riverhead. It also didn't seem like they thought it was a big mistake and called it an easy fix. Yes, it was easy but a mistake no less and we're lucky it was caught.

Invitations
I wanted pocket invitations but was going crazy trying to find something I liked. I was too stressed out, I figured it wasn't worth stressing over and ended up picking a regular folded invitation. My uncle gave them to me as a gift, so I'm not rating them. He owns a printing company and paid wholesale for them. I'm glad they didn't cost him too much and I was happy with the way they turned out.

Hotel - C+
Holiday Inn Express - Riverhead, NY
Pros: The rooms, location and prices were great. 119 for a standard/139 for a suite. They also provided free breakfast and transportation to Giorgio's if we booked a certain amt of rooms.
Cons: Customer Service, basically.
- They promised we could use the lounge for the night before for a
'Welcome Dinner' for free. I never got this in writing since I thought it was a standard thing. I called and confirmed, not once but twice that it was reserved. The third time, two weeks before the wedding they couldn't find my name and wanted to charge $250. DH called and talked them down to $150. At this point, we had 17 rooms so I can't believe they were charging us at all.
- The night of the dinner, it was supposed to have been closed after 5pm for us. We went to pick up the catering and saw bunch of people in there. We told the front desk that we had PAID to have the room to ourselves and she said 'Oh, I don't know anything about that'..She didn't ask them to leave. My SIL handled it while we picked up the food, but the front desk was rude and of no help.
- I had a bunch of reservations in my name, but had them make notes on who was checking in where. For example, they screwed up and gave one person who was staying alone, my suite when a standard was reserved. They messed up the rooms until Kim came and took charge of the situation and fixed it. Luckily, she made it so we didn't have to pay for the mistakes.
- They didn't hand out some of the OOT boxes I assembled. I had to go get them myself and give it to my guests.

Catering for Welcome Dinner - A+
Lenny's of Jamesport
We had a Welcome Dinner for anyone who stayed at our hotel. We felt that it was fair to feed everyone who stayed and not have them have to find a place to eat on their own. We didn't have a rehearsal, so technically it wasn't a rehearsal dinner. I found Lenny's by doing a google search for catering near Riverhead. I spoke to Lenny, who is the nicest guy in the world and he gave me a great deal. DH and I went for lunch one day after going to Giorgio's to make a payment and loved it. We had penne a la vodka, eggplant parm, chicken parm, chicken francese, sausage and peppers and salad. They gave us garlic knots, utensils and paper plates. People
raved about the food and we feel we got a great deal from them. I only wish they were closer to home! We had plenty of leftovers and I was happy to take it home with us to eat the next day since we were exhausted.
Makeup - A+
Lola Loves Makeup - Huntington, NY
I saw good reviews about Andrea and went for a trial. The trial was one of the cheapest out there, I went and was not disappointed. She's a sweetheart and uses great products. We were all pleased with our results. I didn't feel too made up.

Hair - A+
Cosmetic Artistry by Mya
Mya's trial went great and she showed me two looks. She nailed what I wanted - low, soft and loose. She was punctual and EXTREMELY fast/efficient. The girls didn't give her much guidance and she did her thing and they all loved it.
Non pro pic:

Andrea and and Mya started at 5:00 a.m. at the crack of dawn and had us all ready by the time we needed to be. They were both wonderful and a pleasure.
Giorgio's at Fox Hill - A
Baiting Hollow, NY
I read about Giorgio's in a Newsday article about the top ten places to get married in Long Island. We had two appointments out east, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. I made one at Giorgio's to fill in the time gap. Their website was outdated at the time and I wasn't impressed. Once I walked in, it was a different story. I was blown away by the beauty of this place and dealing with the owners directly was great as well. They take pride in their place and are extremely nice. We left and it was at the top of our budget as well as far away for our guests BUT I couldn't get it out of my mind. They had 2 dates left so we had to act quickly, so we booked!
People STILL rave about the food, especially the cocktail hour which is 1.5 hrs long. Everything was top notch - presentation and taste. We got alot of compliments on the mashed potato bar. The waiters are older and more experienced too.
The gardens are beautiful and there are beautiful views. We also loved that the decor was elegant, but not over the top. We also liked the option of taking pictures at their private beach.
The only reason I have not rated Giorgio's with an A+ is because we found out they were having renovations to the outside in November (and were told it would be done by our wedding). When we went a month before the wedding for a payment, we saw some progress (new fountain and beginnings of a bar in the back), and were told that the new fountain would be tiled and everything would be sodded. We were told it wouldn't be completely finished and that the vineyard would not be planted. When we went a few days before the wedding for the final payment, we went out to look and saw dirt - no sod. The only thing done was the vineyard, all the opposite of what we were told. There were tire tracks in the dirt, etc. I got really upset since I was told a different story and the views had alot to do with why we booked. I just thought it would look a little more 'finished' and was ok with it not being completely done. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that it was beyond their control and in the hands of the contractor. I'm sure they didn't want it to take that long.
Still, I don't want to rate any lower and take away from Giorgio's because other than that, everything was PERFECT and we got a TON of compliments. Everything, everything was fantastic. Food, service, decor, small details - all wonderful.
Our bridal attendant, Melissa, was amazing. She was extremely attentive, always asked what I needed and was on top of everything. Frank, the Maitre D' was also on top of his game and worked to make everything flow smoothly. I'm glad he was able to accomodate us outside last minute. He was magic.
The bridal suites are HUGE. There is a bridal suite and a gentlemen’s suite. They are enormous and we were able to take lots of family pictures in them.

Part of the bridal suite (Even bigger than this!):

Cake - A+
Le Bonne Boulangerie - Port Jefferson, NY
Giorgio's supplies a cake, but very basic. We upgraded from buttercream to fondant and chose a white cake with cannoli filling. We were able to try the cake beforehand at one of Giorgio's tastings and the fondant was light and thing, not rubbery like it cam be. Their cannoli is also extremely tasty. They had alot of choices to choose from and I loved the one we chose. It was delicate and I loved the small pink bows. I thought they tied in well with my theme. The sugar art on it was beautiful and we didn't have to use fresh flowers, like originally intended. It was so good that I know of a guest who had 3 pieces! Haha

DJ's - A+
Satisfaction Guaranteed - Mineola, NY
We had 2 friends use them before our wedding and heard they were great. We booked and were lucky enough to hear them once before our wedding. Once we heard them there, we knew we had nothing to worry about. Actually, we always knew that..it just solidified it. We hired the percussionist to get the 'live' feel and it was worth the extra bucks. We had Vinny as our MC and he was lively without being too much. He also sang some Sinatra tunes after we heard him sing during the wedding we attended and asked him to do the same. He sang NY NY for us and got everyone involved in a kickline, which was fun for those who hadn't really danced and got everyone up. They played every single song I requested and left out everyone I asked them not to play. Again, alot of compliments and we've had people ask us their names so that they could use them in the future. They really kept the party going and provided great entertainment - Satisfaction Guaranteed! We also got zapshots and got alot of nice pictures as well as a CD of all the pictures we took to take home after the wedding.

Photography - A+
Twelfth Night - Mineola, NY
I saw someone's pictures on LIW and knew I wanted to book them. I went to meet Dom and booked the next day. Dom is really outgoing, friendly and loves what he does. We chose Mike as our main photographer and Vicky as our second. Randy was their assistant and he took some great shots as well. Vicky was always helpful when I called and even helped me figure out the timeline for the day. As far as customer service goes, they were outstanding. As far as their work, outstanding as well. I got a good combination of pictures I could frame, details and candid shots. I love that they have an a la carte menu and although I didn't even look at another photographer, I know their prices are extremely reasonable in comparison. I consider it a steal for the quality of work they provide.
Mike also shot our engagement shots at the beach and he was great. He made us feel comfortable and it was nice to meet him before the wedding. It was a nice touch to get free e-pics for hiring 2 photographers.
I also love that you get a CD of your photos and that you're free to do whatever we want with them. I'm creating my own albums on Shutterfly, since I do them all the time.

Video - A+
Couped Up Productions - A+
I almost didn't have a video. I figured I would never watch it and that pictures would capture everything. Numerous married friends talked me into it and I figured Ididn't want to regret not having one on the future. I didn't want to pay that much, so I found Couped Up had a special going on. I thought the price was really cheap for video so I met with Rob. Rob is a really nice down to earth guy. This is his full time job, what he does and he's really good at it. I saw some of his work and also booked the next day, no questions. Rob always responded same day to my emails.
Non pro pic:

When DH and I watched our video, we were blown away. It was truly amazing
and it was so nice to see details we didn't get to see through the blur that is your wedding day - people's emotions, moments that made us laugh and even listening to our ceremony again. I am so glad we got a video and as someone told me before, it's the only thing that truly grows in value after your wedding. Your cake, invitations, flowers, etc are gone, but your video you hold on to. Yes, pictures capture moments and are special but in time, you'll see people living and breathing on your video that may not be around any longer.
I recommended Rob to two friends and they're both using him. They both love him and his work. For me, this was the best 'steal' of all.
Flowers - A+
Verbena Designs - Hicksville, NY
Jenn is a sweetheart. I loved that she doesn't pressure you into things you don't need, is creative and works with your budget. I flip flopped over the color scheme (hot pinks or light pinks) about 4 times and she was always patient and kind to me. I thought I wouldn't really care about the flowers but for some reason, I just kept changing my mind. I felt I was a pain, but she never ever made me feel that way. She gave me an amazing quote, actually the best of all. I love that her contracts are itemized and that you know exactly how much each thing is costing and exactly what you're getting.
She did an amazing job - I had her decorate the place card table with apothecary jars. My theme was shabby chic and she made them look just like the picture. I also wanted low centerpieces since I didn't want anything grand/opulent and so that guests could easily talk. We did cube vases with peonies, hydrangeas and green berries. I wanted an all white bouquet full of peonies and orchids and it looked nice and full. I'm glad I went with soft colors, for more of a romantic/spring feel. Prices were great and so was Jen's talent and professionalism.

Father David Grainson - A+
Originally we were supposed to get married by the Catholic Church. We had such a hard time and it was truly a disheartening experience what we dealt with. We still wanted a religious ceremony so we found Fr. David. Fr. David is a former priest who left priesthood, got married and started a family. I love that he's honest about who he is unlike another 'priest' that I called and investigated b/c things just didn't add up, later to find he had been on Shame on You. I love that Fr. David was honest and open about it and I loved the idea of having a man of faith marry me that truly understands the union and sacrament of marriage. We met Fr. David and he spoke beautifully about what marriage means to him and we knew it was right. We met with him twice before the wedding because he wanted to get to know us to personalize our ceremony. Our ceremony was beautiful and touching and I was happy to hear it all over again on the video and truly listen to what Fr. David said. His words meant so much.

Ceremony / Cocktail Hour Music - B+ / A- (?)
Marie Stack
Marie was extremely responsive to any emails/questions I had. She always answered quickly and everything went really smooth with her. I hired her to play the piano since Giorgio's has a piano in the middle of the cocktail hour room. She played all the classics, I didn't give her much guidance with it and she was great.
I had two violins play at the ceremony. Listening to them while walking down the aisle was spectacular. They did an amazing job. The reason for the minus at the end of the A is that I heard a cell phone go off during the ceremony but didn't know whose it was (and I wasn't about to turn around). I later found out that it belonged to the other violinist. It was in her case and it kept ringing. Instead of ignoring the call, she picked it up!!! She picked it up and told the person she'd call them back b/c she was at a wedding. While she spoke low, I still think think the phone should've been off to begin with but even if it rang, it should've at least been ignored. I don't want to blame Marie for this since it wasn't her and I'm sure she was embarassed but still, my guests noticed.
Ladies - I thought this was a given, but make sure your vendors phones are off during the ceremony!!! I still think Marie was a pleasure to work with and hope this doesn't happen to anyone again.

Favors - A+
Pindar Vineyards
We love going out East and going wine tasting and since Giorgio's isn't far from the vineyards, we thought wine would be a good choice for a favor. Plus, who doesn't love wine? :)
We got a deal from a local liquor store and while a little pricier than most favors, we really wanted something people could enjoy. We chose Scarlett Red and I bought blue organza bags online to doll them up. I printed the tags at my dad's printing with a monogram on one side and 'Thank You' on the other.

Smaller details:
Table Numbers, Love Sign for the Place Card Table and Make a Wish for the Bride and Groom sign for the Guestbook - The Back Porch Shoppe on Etsy. I loved the Shabby Chic looks of these signs and theycoordinated well together. I re-sold the Make a Wish sign, but kept the Love sign. It's what we call each other and hopefully if we have a little girl someday, it can go in her room.

Love birds cake topper & ivory birdcage with bow - RomancingJuliet on Etsy.
Again, I wanted something different for our cake topper. I bought a monogram, but didn't think it was 'shabby chic' so I found the lovebirds. Very cute.

DOJ - LuluSplendor on Etsy
I bought earrings, bracelet, necklace and a hair clip (bc I wasn't sure what I wanted to use) but only ended up using the bracelet and earrings. They looked amazing and my friend is using them for her 'something borrowed'. They're exactly what I wanted - silver and pearls.

Hair flowers - kriskreations09 on etsy
Thank You Parasol - Etsy - F
I hate badmouthing people so she will remain nameless. The website said 4-6 weeks and it took over 3 months and numerous emails to get it shipped. I don't know why since her customer rating is 100. She said she had a death in the family but I saw people write thank yous during those 3 months, showing me she did work. I was very patient in the beginning and at the end I was over it. At the end when I wanted my money back, she said she was just finishing up and said she'd provide a refund but at that point I just wanted it already. She promised to refund shipping and it never happened. I emailed once and never heard back. I just left it alone, not worth the stress. I would never use her again.

Personalized Napkins & Coasters - theknot
I didn't want our names/monograms everywhere - everyone knows who is getting married and I didn't want it to matchy so I got different things. The coasters said “Eat Drink and Be Married”. They were on sale and I thought it was a nice touch.

OOT Boxes - boxandwrap.com
I bought white gable boxes and decorated them with blue ribbon. I made labels to doll them up a bit and they looked great. I cannot take credit for the way they came out as I got the idea from a previous LIW bride. I filled them with water, airheads, aspirin, dove chocolates, gummy fruits, cheeze its, gum, cookies, North Fork Chips and a timeline. This was relatively cheap and a nice touch for those who joined us at the hotel. I had 2 BM's come over and help and finished it over some wine.

BM gifts: Coach wristlet, paid for hair, earrings from SDJewelry on Etsy and a candle that had different words describing friendship with BRIDESMAID spelled out and highlighted in between words:

Signature Drinks menu, Place Cards, Menu and the timeline for OOT Boxes
Myself at my dad's printing
I found some recipes, did the menu myself and got plastic frames at Michaels for them.

Cork Place Card holders - CorkeyCreations

Place Cards: I made them as standard business cards and they cut them for me. I didn't want my ugly handwriting on them and most of the ones I saw in the store were folded. Free is for me!
The timeline was also inspired by the same bride as the OOT Boxes and I also made it myself.
Guestbook - Filled it with e-pics and printed on Shutterfly

North Fork Chips - A+
The give a 10% discount to brides. Who does that!?! Well, they do and it was great! I placed the order 2 months before the wedding and they wrote back that it would be better to wait a month before so that we could have the freshest product. They followed up like clock-work and I got it a month before.
Cake Cutter/Knife Set / Toasting Flutes - Vera Wang Love Knots

Bouquet tile - palomasnest on Etsy
It reads, “Always and Forever 05.08.10”

Honeymoon - A+
We spent 17 nights in Italy, in Rome, Florence, Venice and Sorrento. I booked trains and a flight in between Sorrento and Venice myself, as well as all the hotels and tours. I love planning vacations and doing my research and everything went as planned. There are way too many details and pictures to post, but it was all I ever dreamt Italy to be and more!

Love the boots and umbrellas!! Thanks for the review. I am having my reception at Giorgio's next year. I'm glad to hear you had a good experience, other than the construction. I'm so sorry that happened. But it seems like you had a fantastic time anyway. Thanks for your review!

I love the bright, fresh, spring feel your wedding had! You dress and the BM dresses were beautiful. I love the sheen on the BM dresses; it made for great pictures. I also, love the little signs you made up and the beautiful pink flowers. Great wedding !
