My 5*27*05 Reviews...Bliss Productions NY, Double Diamond Limos, Jericho Terrace, The Defining Moments, Tuxedo Park, Twelfth Night and more!

About my day…
It didn’t start out remotely close to what I had envisioned. All the clichés about “something going wrong” were true in my case. There will be things you cannot control, no matter how organized, especially when relying on others. I woke up at 5:30am and asked my mom, who was making my dress, to wake up as well since she had to finish it (yes, this is the day of!). Unfortunately, the zipper she had sewn on (the 2nd one) didn’t close and she decided that sewing 34 tiny buttons was our only choice. Needless to say, I was very stressed since my mom had to go buy buttons that morning to finish my dress. She still had to finish the Matron of Honor’s dress and if as that wasn’t enough, my mom was not able to finish one of my bridesmaid’s dresses (she made the MOH and BM, so I was short one dress) and I found this out the night before…upon telling my BM the horrible news she decided to drop out of the wedding the morning of. So, when my hair and make-up vendors arrived I was a total mess – and nothing was in order. Not to mention that NO ONE that was supposed to have hair and make-up arrived or was ready. My mom showered 10 minutes before we were to leave, while the limo waited downstairs…and luckily, there’s pictures to prove it, so one day I’ll be able to laugh about it…just not yet!

It’s at least 12:30pm, I know this because the photographer’s here taking these pictures… if we have to leave at 2:00pm how come my mom is ironing my dress?

Photojournalism at its very best…what am I doing with full hair, make-up, veil and tiara on the morning of my wedding? Why doing the dishes…isn’t that what every bride does?

Thank God, because He is amazing, everything worked out. My mom’s button idea worked, my amazing DH took my BM (who’s his aunt) shopping and found a dress that morning (isn’t that what every groom wants to do the day of his wedding?) and my photographer and videographer were nothing short of amazing once they arrived. Sensing all the madness, they worked hard at making this bride laugh and feel at ease. Thankfully, once I stepped onto the church (actually, once I arrived and Msgr. Hinch came into the limo to talk) all went away. From that moment on, the most amazingly spectacular day took place. And it was a million times better than I had ever imagined. I am very blessed that all the mayhem and chaos (and there was lots) happened in the morning, because the rest of my day and night were flawless!

It’s my wedding day…who exactly am I calling?

Champagne through a straw, a stressed bride’s best friend!

Yes, I’m almost ready to go…so how come my mom and MOH are not! Mom’s not even showered yet!

Oh that’s why! Mom’s still finishing the MOH’s dress!

Ummm, one BM is dressed, my hair and make-up is done…what’s mom doing? Ah yes, she’s still making the MOH’s dress!

Aw, look at that…it all worked out in the end!

The following are my reviews…note that some vendors deserve the ubiquitous A+++, but since I feel that takes validity away from the review, those that got an A+ really went above and beyond (so imagine many pluses if you must. LOL).
Sorry it’s so long (if you know me, you know I can yap), I hope it helps someone!

Flower Girl and Ring Bearer’s Clothes: The Briar Patch – A
www.shopbriarpatch.com
Great find, thanks to LIW! Our RB’s wore 3 piece grey suits and they arrived fast and right. The boys looked amazingly cute and the price was awesome.
FG dress arrived stained and I had a problem with customer service at first; they claimed that they photograph everything and we must have stained it – even though I called the very day it arrived. They wanted me to ship the dress back before they would send me a replacement, but since the wedding was in 2 weeks I had to write a few emails and make calls to get them to ship another dress without waiting for my return. Thankfully, they did and it arrived in perfect condition. For under $60, the FG looked adorable. This business is completely e-based and the prices cannot be beat, I recommend them. NOTE: The pocket squares were made from the BM’s dresses fabric. The ties were purchased online and Tuxedo Park cut them to fit the boys since we wanted real ties.

Tuxedos: Tuxedo Park (Carle Place location), Bob – A
www.tuxedoparkli.com; (516) 294-7300
My DH wanted a classy, reputable place since he had a horrible experience for his brothers wedding. We went to a few places and decided on Tuxedo Park. Please go to Bob and Bob only – he’s amazing and just rocks! He made my DH feel special during this whole process (it shouldn’t be “all about the bride”) and everyone looked awesome. DH wanted rentals with real ties, not a clip on or the other ones that go around the collar but are not “real”, plus he wanted a different tux. His black on black pinstripe was just it and Bob helped us choose ties, vests, shoes and all accessories for everyone. Pricey, but worth it for peace of mind. NOTE: The pocket squares were made from the BM’s dresses fabric.

My Dress and Bridesmaid’s Dresses, Margarita (my lovely mom) – B- (Day Of) A (All-Around)
So how do I grade my mom? Her work is amazing…she’s a pattern maker and sample maker who has been sewing since before I was born. She even has clothes in the Boxing Hall of Fame! Problem is mom lives out of state and came up the week of my wedding. She was supposed to make 4 dresses…mine, my MOH and my two BM’s. She started sewing on Sunday (wedding was on Friday!) and left a BM without a dress. But what she did finish was beautiful and my dress is one of a kind. I designed it based on an Amsale dress I liked and mom made it for my body type…very flattering. Plus she added Swarovski crystals to the hem…such a nice touch!

Hair: Hair by Diana, Diana – D
My hair, while nice, was completely different than my trial. I had some added stress due to the fact that this vendor was making inappropriate and rude comments, begrudgingly did my MOH’s hair and left prior to my photographer or videographer getting there – so I have zero pictures of myself getting ready. There were supposed to be 4 people getting their hair done that day, but I had a LOT of things go wrong and everyone cried broke, so it only ended up being my MOH and me. This could explain why Diana was in such a hurry to leave and told me “you can’t eat breakfast, there’s no time for that” or not. She also told me that she had 'another wedding to go to' that day, which was NOT disclosed prior to my wedding. My veil and tiara were placed begrudgingly as well. Either way, it was not a pleasant experience. Toward the end of the night my hair started falling apart.

Veil and Tiara: eBay, seller veiledandbejeweled – A+
Great quality, fast shipment and a bargain! My veil was a two tier with Swarovski crystals on both layers; the blusher part had crystals on both sides and definitely sparkled a lot. The tiara had Swarovski crystals as well; it was a comb since I wanted something to wear atop my chignon…I just loved it and so did DH!

Jewelry: Macy’s – A+
This was my “something blue” and a gift from DH. The bracelet and earrings were delicate, sparkly and a great price. I wanted to wear real diamonds and didn’t want to pay a lot, this aquamarine and diamonds set did the trick!

Shoes: Barney’s New York – A+
Found these 2 days before the wedding and fell in love immediately. They were comfortable, sparkly and matched perfectly!

Make-Up: The Defining Moments, Michelle Nocella – B (Day Of) A+ (All-Around)
(917) 270-7037
It is so hard to “grade” this vendor because she and I met through LIW when I was having a calligrapher “crisis”. Michelle went out of her way to help me and is one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. Our arrangement was not “normal” so I honestly don’t even think it’s fair to grade her. She gets a B the day of because the end result, while very nice, did not look like the picture I presented her. My eyes and lips were a lot darker than I wanted, but in all fairness I didn’t mention a thing to her. Once she left I fixed it myself and it was very easy. Unfortunately I had been crying A LOT that morning so my eyes were puffy and I had huge under eye bags. She did a great job at covering them up; again, once she left I applied ice and the swelling went down considerably. I received compliments and it lasted all day and night – even through all my dancing! I definitely think Michelle is a great person to work with.

Flowers, Migdalia (my aunt) – B- (Day Of) A (All-Around)
Migdalia’s my aunt and whenever you deal with family you have to sort of walk on wires. I was adamant about not wanting any roses or greenery; only hydrangea, cala lilies, peonies, orchids and tulips. In hindsight, I should have added roses to the mix because they are cheap and don’t wilt as fast. My flowers were gorgeous – stunning when I saw them, but my bouquet fell apart in the heat and the hydrangea wilted really fast. I did pay very little (wholesale and labor was free) so I can’t really complain too much. The church decorations were just like I explained: tulle with rose petals and hydrangeas, but I never saw them that day…I did not pay attention! My centerpieces were really beautiful but I saw them after the fact also; I loved that I had parrot tulips and peonies in each CP and wish I had looked them over more. Each table had 3 square centerpieces (large in center, smaller on each side) and rose petals and votives were provided for the tables and cake table. My place card table had a tall cala lily arrangement that was so elegant. She made the petal cones and the clear boxes with eleven silver and blue Jordan almonds that were at each place setting. All in all she did a great job and my flowers were exactly what I wanted!

Invitations: Rexcraft.com – B+
www.rexcraft.com
I designed my own invites since I needed dual language and I wanted a ribbon closure and a nice paper…since no one made it under $1,000 I found a French fold invite at Rexcraft and worked with them to print my design on their beautiful flower embedded paper. I then proceeded to cut the slits on each invite (exacto knifes rock!) and put the ribbon through. Their customer service was horrid, but the price was great and the end product was fine by me.

Wedding Bands: Tiffany &Co. – A+
www.tiffany.com
My DH picked his own band and I got what I always wanted…an eternity band. I cared not that it didn’t match my e-ring, I love how they look together. The whole experience was fast and painless…but I expected nothing less! My e-ring was purchased at the Diamond District…56 W. 47th Street – David and Cristina .

Toasting Flutes: Lenox at Tanger Outlets – A+
Such a bargain! Platinum rimmed flutes with a crystal cut stem…loved them!

Cake Topper: eBay, seller cakejewels – A
I loved our monogram cake topper and it was a great price (can you sense a budget “theme” ) but painting was a pain…this seller should start selling them already painted…thanks to angelbear217 for FMing instructions!

Picture sign-in frame and mat and frame for instructions: Michael’s – A+
Love this store! I made my own and it was so cheap! I also bought square vases and blue rocks to hold the sharpies (I wanted my messages in color). Worth it!

Favors

Blush Table Wine from Pugliese Vineyards, Pat – A+
www.pugliesevineyards.com
The whole process was very smooth and easy. Pat was a pleasure and personalized the bottles in about 2 weeks! We ordered 5 cases as we did one per couple.
Wine Organza Bags; www.pouchmart.com – A+
Cheapest price I found and very fast shipping.

Place cards: vellum bags with Lindt truffles. Bags purchased from eBay! – A+, cards purchased from Staples and self-printed; chocolates purchased at www.yummies.com – A+; ribbon purchased at Kate’s Paperie.
This was one of the easiest projects to make and well worth the effort. They were such a hit!

Menus and blue satin ribbon for invites and place cards: Kate’s Paperie – A+
Menus were one per place setting. I printed on Crane’s Crest cards with a thin silver border purchased at Kate’s Paperie. They were very easy to make and looked so nice!
Clear box with personalized ribbon and Jordan almonds – A
Made by my aunt, one per person…see “flowers”. Not exactly what I wanted since the ribbon screamed “traditional” but my aunt made them and it was all part of my flower “price”.

Table Name cards were purchased at Kate’s Paperie and stands at Wrap With Us in Syosset – A+
So easy to make and I loved the end product. The paper was the same as the menus, but I printed horizontally. The stands had stones in them and were a beautiful pewter color. My tables were named after different diamond cuts and not everyone got it (luckily all my friends did), but they all liked that it was “different”.

A note on our photographers, videographer, reception hall, limo drivers (and company) and DJ: They were professional, reliable and so personable. They worked amazingly well together and made us feel like old time friends and family. I called some of them A LOT (Mike at Jericho Terrace and Tommy at Double Diamond, thanks for your patience) and they never flinched. They rock and we’ll miss them!

Photographer: Twelfth Night, Dominic and Geraldine – A+
www.twelfthnightphoto.com; (516) 746-5346
Dominic showed up at my house on time and was easy to work with. He worked with what he had: a bride with no dress, a matron of honor with no finished dress, a mother of the bride furiously sewing and not yet showered and an empty and stress filled house. He showed me a few pics and they looked great – can’t wait for the finished product! He even stood extra at the reception hall (we had him for 6 hours) to make sure he got extra shots because he felt he wasn’t done. I loved the fact that he worked so well with Jerry, our videographer. They captured my day perfectly…photojournalist doesn’t even begin to explain their work. My dress being ironed, me doing the dishes, my mom getting ready last minute – Dominic captured it all! Geraldine, our second photographer (had her for 10 hours) was so very nice and professional. I am so glad we had her because I love her artistic eye. My DH saw a few pics at the reception and was blown away. My first dance, bouquet in air, garter in air – it’s all on film! After seeing our proofs (all 1400 of them!) we are so happy with our choice…so much was captured! Definitely book them!

Videographer: Bliss Productions NY, Jerry and Eliot (assistant) – A+ (pending final product)
http://www.blissproductionsny.com/; (516) 294-7007
Jerry, like Dominic, had a lot to work with at my house – it was chaos! He is so relaxed, professional and just great. I wanted pictures and video with my cat, but as cats do, he went hiding. Jerry went under my bed and got him out! So I will have a few pics with my Mr. Blue as well as video, thanks to Jerry.
He left early to meet us at the church and my DH said that Eliot, his assistant, was quiet, unobtrusive and recording the church. They stood with me all day until 1am! I have heard that they were “working hard” and where “everywhere” at the reception. I can honestly say that I did not notice them at all – and that’s exactly what we wanted! We can’t wait for the video – strangers videos made me cry, so I can only imagine what Jerry’s work will do. After seeing our proofs we were so happy to see that Jerry was not in any of the shots…certainly unobtrusive!
Also girls, my friends were going nuts for Eliot and were hitting on him at the reception. Apparently he’s a hottie, so you’re forewarned! LOL. Without any hesitation, use this vendor!

Thanks to Jerry I have these shots!

Limos: Double Diamond Limousine, Tommy (Steve and Sal – drivers) – A+
www.limos4u.net; (718) 232-6565
This was a crucial vendor since we live in Brooklyn, church was in Queens and reception was in LI. If anything went wrong, it would have been terrible. We used them for our engagement party and my DH’s bachelor party, but the Big Day was different. Well, they were phenomenal and well beyond my expectations! My driver, Steve, showed up at my house early. The Chrysler 300C was well stocked with soda and water and we got to the church on time. I had a red carpet waiting once I stepped out of the limo. The owner of the company, Tommy, whom I called A LOT (even the day of) sent a bottle of Dom Perignon and we had a lace aisle runner; really went above and beyond and we were ecstatic! Sal, who drove the Escalade picked everyone up on time and made sure his limo was clean and also stocked. They were an absolute pleasure to work with the day of and we have zero complaints. Our complimentary airport drop off and pick-up (we had limos for both!) was also on-time, professional and nothing short of great. With so many horror stories out there, this is definitely a company worth using. No worries – book them!

Church: Holy Child Jesus, Monsignor Hinch – A+
There are no words to describe the entire experience. I am not catholic, DH doesn’t belong to a parish and we don’t go to church – so finding a church to marry us was not easy (to put it lightly). After calling almost every church, I decided to try Holy Child Jesus since I always loved it from the outside. Msgr. Hinch was the most welcoming, warm and just plain amazing priest in the world. We started monthly meetings with him in September 2004 until February 2005 and he truly prepared us for marriage. He helped and took care of all the paperwork (we needed a dispensation, among other things) and made us discuss everything along the way. In the end, we had a touching, emotional and unbelievable ceremony. We laughed, cried and just plain loved Msgr. Hinch both during the preparation process and the day of. He said some great and personal things about us, exactly what we wanted. It was a bi-lingual ceremony and I loved that my DH said his vows in English and I said mine in Spanish – we were hesitant about a “church” wedding, but this was the best and most meaningful decision. It set the tone for a truly blessed day. Loved our ceremony and loved Msgr. Hinch!

Music: Holy Child Jesus Organist, Tony P. – A+
Tony’s the interim organist since the church’s original one left, but he called me the week of and we went over every detail. He was phenomenal! Bridal Party came in to Canon in D played on organ, I came in to Trumpet Voluntary played on organ and both were beautiful. But the best parts were the fact that Tony sang (yes, he sang!) during the Psalm (Ave Maria) and he played our special request recessional – Con Te Partiro, on piano “because it would sound much better”. Tony is a perfectionist and our music was on point. I was grinning from ear to ear once I heard Bocelli. I hope Holy Child Jesus hires him!

Reception: Jericho Terrace, Mike Closs – BM; Jim – Maitre’D and Donna – Bridal Attendant – A+
http://www.jerichoterrace.com; (516) 742-5251
All of our expectations were blown away – they were beyond amazing! From the moment our limo arrived, our Maitre ‘D - Jim and Bridal Attendant - Donna greeted us and made sure everything was taken care of. I can honestly say that NOTHING went wrong and if it did, I never noticed. We were in the lobby taking pictures as our guests were arriving and were so happy with the service. Guests arriving early were sent to the bar. They opened the cocktail hour 15 minutes early and there was staff everywhere directing guests. Waiters with champagne were at the entrance to the cocktail hour; passed coconut shrimp and pigs in a blanket were a huge hit and every station was well staffed and so nicely set up. Guests thought the CH was it, so they are a lot and we received many, many compliments. Everyone had a seat, there was plenty of food – we walked into the CH to a rousing round of applause and although we barely ate, we loved seeing everyone having a great time. The bridal suite was spacious, stocked with beer and soda and food. There were 4 hot chafing dishes and Donna kept asking if we wanted anything from the CH! I didn't taste anything here but my family was eating and loving it!
The reception was just out of this world! From the champagne march (DH and I had Cristal and they added it to the march!) to the presentation of meals – it was spectacular. And the food – OMG – it was so good! My DH is still raving about the lemon intermezzo. Our meal was surf and turf with shrimp oreganatta and that lobster was beyond! Everything in my contract was done: the chairs had covers and bows, menus were distributed per place setting, table names were placed correctly and the best part: waiters came out after dinner with plated entrees offering seconds! The chocolate fountain was a huge hit also. We received compliments from our vendors on how nice everything was; a few of them said that they could “feel the love”; our guests all loved the place as well. No words can explain how awesome it was! Our DJ said “I have been doing this for 15 years and never, not once, have I ever been asked if I wanted something to drink. Your Maitre ‘D is the best I have ever worked with and your wedding is great because of him”. Bob, the bartender on my side of the room was also just amazing. He rolled his bar up and down his side and made sure everyone was drinking. People even know him by name now! He was constantly asking DH and me if we wanted anything and the fact that he rolled his bar – well, you can’t ask for more! There are so many great things that happened: Jim asking me if the temperature was “to my liking”, Donna bustling my dress with a safety pin (she did this repeatedly as it kept falling off), all of our things being packed away – even the top layer of our cake – and meals prepared for us to take. There was nothing I worried about. My cake, which I gave them a picture of the week of my wedding, was just perfect! Mike Closs came in during the reception to make sure all was OK and so did a few owners. They really care about every party! I had a small wedding of 100 guests and they treated me like it was a huge affair. We can’t wait to go back as guests – our best decision yet – love them! Book them now!

Thank you Mike!

DJ: Diamond Productions, Izzy – A
http://www.diamondpe.com; (732) 603-2150
We had a hard time finding a DJ. We wanted a Latin owned company, a young DJ, a knowledgeable DJ and no cheese. We got it all with Izzy. He was on time, professional and had the party going. The cocktail hour music was also very nice and subtle. We never made it around to every table because of him – the seats were always empty! Izzy was extremely personable. He made us feel like we were life long friends and really listened to all my gripes and choices. At the end of the night he gave us a CD with our music mixes – he’s awesome and completely worth the trip to NJ. The reason why he didn’t get an A+ is because there was a little confusion during dinner and our slow song requests weren’t played. But he did bring it up to our attention and no one noticed. Most of our requests were not played also, but in all fairness I sent it to him the day of the wedding. We did not give him a monster play list; we trusted his judgment, hired him for his talent and he completely respected our “no cheese, no typical wedding” music request. It’s not easy pleasing everyone when one side is Puerto Rican (and we love our salsa!) and the other is Dominican (and they love their bachata and perico ripiao, not to mention merengue) – but the bride and groom want hip hop, house and reggae, and a little Madonna thrown in!
The percussionist was also awesome and everyone loved it. Another great thing is Izzy’s voice, he has a great radio voice (and not “cheesy” at all) and is so down to earth and fun. We received compliments on the DJ and the music and that’s exactly what we wanted. He played great music and had our guests dancing all night (until 1am…the “stragglers” didn’t want to leave). Book him!

After reception pick-up: KRM Transportation – A+
(516) 742-3353
Recommended by Jericho Terrace, they were early, knowledgeable and got us to our hotel fast. We had a limo and were very pleased. Because it was a busy prom night our limo company couldn’t send a car for us, we received some outrageous quotes for pick-up and drop-off until this vendor. Great find. Definitely recommend.

Wedding night hotel: The Muse Hotel – A
http://www.themusehotel.com
Nice boutique hotel in NYC’s Times Square area. My friend works there and got us a special deal so we paid very little. The rooms are small but nice, typical NYC. It’s right on the Theater District so it’s perfect for dinner and a show.

Honeymoon
Travel Agent: Beach Bum Vacations, Hayley – A+
www.beachbumvacation.com; (877) 943-8282
Hayley was a godsend. Thanks to the HM board on theknot I was able to find her. I must have driven her insane because my “must” list was a mile long. She worked with me for almost a month and got us an unbelievable deal. Her knowledge, customer service and availability is unbeatable. I would call and email her repeatedly and she never flinched. She even followed up afterwards, sending me an email before I left and a note once we returned! Definitely will use her again. My HM was worry free. We had NOTHING go wrong. Use her!

Resort: Occidental Royal Hideaway Playacar – A+
www.royalhideaway.com
I religiously read TripAdvisor.com, LIW, theknot’s HM board and bio any other reviews I could find on this place – so to say my expectations were high is an understatement. The reviews do it no justice! We were greeted with “Welcome Mr. and Mrs. R” upon stepping out of our car. Lavender scented warm towels and cold champagne arrived shortly while we checked in. The entire process was bliss and the lobby area is impressive – just amazingly luxe and elegant. We knew we had made the right decision immediately! Our room (villa 22, away from all the noise) was nice, big and clean. Our concierge arranged all of our dinner reservations the very day we arrived. The mini bar was always stocked, housekeeping and turn down service was always done – we never had to call. The best part, besides the fact that the property is so gorgeous it made us want to jump like little kids (it’s adults only, by the way, we never saw a child!), was the food and drinks. Gourmet doesn’t even begin to cover it. We have never had such great food. Every restaurant rocked. The presentation was beautiful, staff so professional, drinks top shelf brands. I had never tasted a tamarind margarita before and honestly want to go back just for that! Room service, beach and pool service, dinner on the beach and dinner at the restaurants – everything was amazing. We have no complaints! We booked the “royal romance” package and experienced a romantic dinner on the beach with a bottle of Moet – so worth it! The beach was so beautiful and clear it hurt the eyes to look at it! Not sure why other reviews said the beach was gone. It’s very much there and very much amazing. Our 9 days at Royal Hideaway were not enough and we hope to return soon. Definitely worth every penny, it was everything a honeymoon should be. We were pampered and catered to beyond belief. Go here now!

Some of my favorite HM pics

Ignore the squintiness...the beach on the bed!

The beach at Royal Hideaway

Dinner on the beach

And our last picture before we headed to the airport...note our lovely tans! We are so dark that on most pics after day 7 we can't see ourselves, and my poor cat didn't recognize me at first! LOL.

Thank You Cards
Photo Card Creations, Allison – A+
I found this great company thanks to bluesashbride...Allison at Photo Card Creations was amazing. Fast service, prompt shipment and raves all around. I was able to customize the sayings and make the card “my own” inside and out. I was actually thanked by my guests for their thank you cards! Worth every single penny!

Please feel free to FM me if you have any questions or comments. Hope this helps future couples! Best wishes and congrats to all!

You made a beautiful bride, the pictures came out lovely. When I saw your gown I thought it was a amsale before you stated it in your review. Your mom did a wonderful job making it. Congrats to mom on all the dresses.
