My 8-8-09 Supersized Review: Waterfront Wedding, teal & pink; shells & ribbons - Lands End, A Current Affair, Wild Rose, Lovin Oven Florist, & so much more. UPDATED FOR NORTH ISLAND PHOTO REVIEW!

I have updated this with my beautiful Album Pages from North Island Photography. See the third post where I start with my North Island review. I have added some album layout posts.

The photos from the actual day are from North Island Photo unless otherwise noted. Photos from other occasions are not.

First let me thank LIW
How could I have done this without LIWeddings. The help and guidance from all of you girls have been amazing and it kept me excited and calm through the wedding process. I loved having you girls to give me opinions, answer questions, help with ideas and just to vent to. I met some great girls both virtually and in person. I love LIWeddings and recommend any bride on Long Island to become an active member of this site. The more you use it the more you will get out of it.

The Big Wedding Book by Mindy Weiss A+
I got engaged on a Friday night, by Sunday my BM was over with this book in hand. This book saved my life. I had no idea where to start and this book walked me through the e-party completely. It was less important once I found LIW but I still can’t tell you how many times I referred to it, even to help other LIW brides with their questions. The book is amazing and tells you everything you need to know about planning a wedding.

--------

THE ENGAGEMENT PARTY!!!!

Well let’s just say, Hannah put a bit of a damper (literally) on my engagement party. It was scheduled for my backyard on Saturday and we had a rain contingency plan of having it at Bayberry Beach and Tennis Club in the clubhouse. Bayberry may be dry, but that is not a place you want to be in a hurricane or tropical storm. So when Hannah hit we had to scramble to move the party to Sunday. That included calling ALL of my guests. We lost a lot of guests, but it was still a great party. The weather on Sunday was GORGEOUS!

E-Party Food: Lessings A+
First of all my experience with Lessings has always been wonderful and my e-party was no exception. When we had to postpone for Hannah the Lessings were very accommodating and they worked with us to move the party to Sunday. Sunday they came with their truck early in the morning and set everything up. They even took over doing the decorations for me so that I could go get ready. The maitre d was wonderful and she made sure that Jason, my dad, my mom and I had a chance to eat and she kept our drinks flowing constantly. The food was incredible, especially the passed hors d’oeuvres. Also we had a bee infestation, probably from the storm. I was so worried about the bartenders who were surrounded by bees all day long, but they didn’t let it stop them from doing an incredible job. They truly went above and beyond.

E-Party Cake: Audrey’s Fine Baked Goods A
I knew I wanted a double heart cake. I looked online for pictures and I couldn’t find the perfect cake. So I brought Audrey’s a few different pictures and had them create one for me. I told them I wanted it to be turquoise and pink. I was so excited when I saw it. It was perfect. It was exactly what I wanted it to be. It was also super delicious. We got yellow cake with raspberry fruit filling in one heart and chocolate fudge in the other. We also got a ton of pastries and cookies from Audreys. I have to say, I have never in my life seen dessert go that fast at a party, especially cake. It was a huge cake and there was hardly any leftovers. The only reason they get an A and not an A+ is because when Jay went to pick up the cake on Sunday morning they had forgotten to decorate it. But that was really because of Hannah and us having to postpone the party by a day. Still Audreys came through. They called the decorator who went back in on his day off and finished the cake for us. Then they delivered it to the house with more then enough time before dessert was served. So they only lost their plus for the little bit of worrying I had to do.

I RANK AUDREY’S TWO MORE TIMES IN THIS REVIEW. I felt that each time I used them deserved their own review, because the cakes/cupcakes were so different.

E-Pics: North Island Photography A+
I have to be honest, I do not love my e-pics, but that is no fault of the photographer. He did a wonderful job. I am unhappy with my outfit choice and this line started to appear in when I smile, under my nose that was never there before. That was the first time I noticed it, so a lot of the pictures from the engagement shoot I am really unhappy with. If I could do it over I would wear a dress (colored) and ask him to keep an eye out for that line. But his photography was beautiful, as was the backdrop where we shot them. It was going to rain any minute, which made for a beautiful sky, but it also made the whole session super fast. But he was great. He started shooting the minute we got out of the car and he took over 100 pictures in the short time we had. He is great at directing us and so easy to work with. Again the pictures themselves were beautiful, me, not so much.

Despite me being unhappy with myself however we managed to find several photos I love which is a testament to how good he is.

MY BRIDAL SHOWER!!

I have to say my Bridal Shower was FANTASTIC!!! It was everything that I wanted it to be and more. My mom did the most amazing job.

Bridal Shower Location: Bayberry Beach Club A+
Its Members Only and my parents are members, but I felt I should review it anyhow since it was so fabulous. The fact we had a sunny day helped, but the shower along the water was spectacular. The room was perfect for the 60 something guests and everyone was so happy with the location. The club manager was so helpful and everything was set up how my mom wanted, she just had to go in and decorate. DH’s family is still talking about it, especially the kids, who loved being at the club. They went in the pool, played in the sand, and still enjoyed some of the party. My mom did all the decorating herself including the floral centerpieces. Many people told my mom that it was one of the nicest showers they have ever been to.

Bridal Shower Food: Lessings A+
Once again the Lessings come through. People were raving about the food well after the shower had ended. We had a brunch and the food was terrific. The French toast was so yummy I had the maitre d get me seconds and we had an omelet station that everyone loved. The only alcohol served was a champagne punch and it was unbelievably good. I can’t believe how many compliments my mom got.

Shower Cupcakes: Audreys Fine Baked Goods B+
They were yummy and super cute, though the cute bride and groom figures on them did not come from Audreys. My mom got them at Fat Cat Paperie in Center Moriches. My only complaint was that the turquoise ones were turning people’s mouths, skin, clothes (and something else the next day)… a greenish blue color. The cupcakes really didn’t need to be that dark. FH told them light turquoise, not dark teal. Because of the food coloring I waited to get home to have one, I loved my dress to much to stain it, but I had a pink one and it was soooo good. I totally recommend using Audreys, I just don’t recommend blue food coloring.

My Shower Thank You Notes: A Stationary Studio A-
My bridal shower Thank You notes were so cute. I got so many phone calls and e-mails complimenting them. I saw them on “The Stationary Studio” (www.thestationarystudio.com) and knew I had to get them. I had a few issues with my order, but they fixed the problems without a hassle.

----

BACHELORETTE PARTY: Ocean Beach Fire Island A+
Island Mermaid, CJs, Housers, my parents boat
It was SO much fun. The girls all met at my house for drinks. My parents drove us to Fire Island on their Sea Ray, which the girls decorated with bachelorette party gear. My mom got all the girls who came matching headbands and my BMs matching tiaras from Joanne’s Fabrics. On the way over we had a champagne toast on the bay. Dinner was at the Island Mermaid. I love the Mermaid and Scott (the owner) was excellent. He had a large table all set up for us and my parents were able to park the boat there all evening while they went off with friends. We got stamped before the leaving the Mermaid and ended up back there for dancing. Dinner was terrific and everyone loved it. We also went to CJs for Rocket Fuels and Housers were we hung out for a long time. Then after a great night my dad drove us home on the boat at about 3am. I have the best dad.

I love Fire Island and it is a great place to go for your bachelorette.

Bachelorette Party Cake: My friend Deirdre
I’m not rating it, just showing it off!!! She is starting to make wedding cakes for people, but not commercially just yet. She plans to one day though.

---
REHEARSAL DINNER INVITATIONS: Hallmark A
My mother in law bought these, but we picked them out together. It was actually the only part of planning I really got to share with her. I loved the invitations, they were perfect for the venue and fit the theme of the wedding without taking away from the look of the wedding day.

REHEARSAL DINNER: Snapper Inn C (My MIL thinks this is kind.)
The place is beautiful, it’s a super location and the room they gave us was great. But the Snapper Inn on a Friday in the summer might not be the place to have a rehearsal dinner. It was a mob scene. The parking lot was full but anyone who said they were with the rehearsal dinner had no trouble getting to the valet, but they had to know to say that and we weren’t told about it ahead of time. My grandfather only found out after arguing with the parking attendant. At 88 years old he had to walk to the Snapper Inn from far away and then after arguing with the parking attendant, found out he could use the valet for private parties and had to walk back to get his car. It would have been nice if someone had warned us. Thankfully my grandfather called us and we called everyone else, but that added extra stress. The servers were nice, the food was great and everyone loved the spot… but honestly the service was HORRIBLE!!!! We got there at 7:30 and we got served dessert about 11pm and that was only after my BIL, who is a restaurant manager, got involved and told them to move it along. Half our guests left before dessert because it was getting so late. I had this plan of unwinding with karaoke with some of my BMs after the dinner, but we didn’t get home until almost midnight. They were overbooked with events and not prepared for it. It was painful.

Birthday Cakes: Manhattan Sweets A+
We brought in our own cakes because we had two birthdays and one was my MIL who hosted the Rehearsal Dinner. So because we were having cake on Saturday we went to Manhattan Sweets in Islip and got a Silk and Satin Cheesecake and a Raspberry Mousse cake. They were both beautiful and delicious. I didn’t have the Raspberry but my mom raved about it. The silk and satin is sinful. It is really one of the best desserts I have ever eaten. I get it all the time and I totally recommend it.

Bridesmaid/Reader Gifts: Ross Simons / China A (Also DOJ)
We got real pearl necklaces on sale from Ross Simons. The clasp is small but they were very beautiful pearls for a reasonable price. The girls all seemed to like them and they went beautifully with the dresses. I also got pearl earrings for the girls, which my father picked up for them when he was on business in China. They don’t match the necklaces perfectly, but they looked good together. For the readers I got black pearl necklaces also from Ross Simons. Someone had told me on LIW that the Ross Simons pearls were poor quality but I thought they were really great for the price.

The Girls Day of Jewelry and Gifts: Pic by North Island Photography

Readers Necklaces:

Groomsmen Gifts: The Perfect Sign (http://www.theperfectsign.com) & Pub Sign Store (www.thepubsignstore.com) B+
The signs were great. They are huge, but great. The only problem is they didn’t come in their own individual boxes and finding boxes for them was very difficult. I ended up having to make them out of Uhaul boxes and cut myself a few times in the process, good thing I wrapped them weeks in advance. Honestly I don’t understand why they would ship them all in one box. Why would you order that many if it wasn’t a gift. My other complaint was there were a few messed up spots on them. Like Jay’s cousins had a few paint splotches. Though no one else seemed to notice. I also had to clean them all with a rag, they were covered in saw dust when they arrived. Also getting them to the Snapper Inn for the rehearsal was a bit of a trick. But all in all they were a big hit and the guys really loved them.

Most of them came from the Perfect Sign.

This one for the best man came from The Pub Sign Store. The Perfect Sign’s were cheaper, but the Pub Sign had some that the Perfect Sign did not, like the one Jason got his brother below. This one was also in perfect shape, no paint splotches and clean. I don’t know how it would have been packaged had we ordered multiple signs, since we only got one from them.

Bridesmaid Bags/DIY: Bealls - Florida A
This was the best find. These bags matched the BM dresses perfectly. I didn’t want bags that said Bridesmaid on them, I wanted something they could use again. I was so excited to find these bags. I think the BMs will use them again and they looked so beautiful with the dresses. To make them Bridesmaid bags my mom and I made tags that the girls could remove later.

Bridesmaid Flip Flops : Kohls A
I couldn’t believe Kohls had flip flops that matched the dress and they were really cute. I was very excited by this. It was nice to have all the girls in matching flip-flops and it insured that they would be comfortable later in the night. By the way if you are taking pictures outside on sand, rocks or a boat it is a good idea to get your girls flip-flops. They were much happier having them. All the beautiful pics I have of the bridal party on the bow of the boat would not have happened if the girls had been in their heels.

Bridesmaid Tanks : DIY A
I got the shirts from Old Navy and they were not the best tanks but they were cheap. Then I ordered the rhinestone letters from Amazon.com. My mom and I put them together. They came out really cute.

Save the Dates: Mom & Dad / Fat Cat Paperie A+
I love, love, loved my Save the Dates. I came up with the concept, my father took the pictures, and my mother designed the post card. Then we had them printed at Fat Cat Paperie. They gave us a great deal, did them quickly and they came out great. They were also easy to work with.

Invitations: Fat Cat Paperie A+
I got so many compliments on my invitations. I wanted something unique and I really had a vision of what I wanted. We sat down with Pam at Fat Cat and together we came up with a concept. Pam was great to work with. They were quick to make changes when I asked for them. The invitations came out great and I got so many compliments on them. There are a few things I would change about them, like having lined envelopes. But I am nit picking, everyone loved them the way they were.

OOT Bags/Water Bottles: A Christmas Tree Shop/DIY A+
The bags were a pain in the butt, because I was covered with sparkles when I was making them. But they were $.89 each, pretty and the right colors. In each bag we had two water bottles that we put our own labels on. My mom made the labels. We also put in two bags of chips, a bag of M&M cookies, an individually wrapped Entenmanns crumb cake, some candy, sunscreen, wipes, tissues, advil, and Rolaids. Also each bag had a copy of my film, “The Many Faces of Fire Island.”

Re: In Progress... My 8-8-09 Supersized Review… Lands End, Pronovias, A Current Affair, North Island Photo, Wild Rose, Lovin Oven Florist, Helens Bridal, Fat Cat Paperie, Hawaii and so much more.

THE WEDDING DAY
All Pictures from the Wedding Day are from North Island Photography unless otherwise noted.

Weather: Partly Sunny A+
The weather was beautiful. It wasn’t bright and sunny but it wasn’t raining either. Actually at the church it was a gorgeous day but then clouds rolled in making it a very overcast day. For pictures it was probably better. We were squinting in the outdoor pictures as it was so it was good that it wasn’t to sunny. It wasn’t to cold or to hot, so my guests were comfortable at the Outdoor Cocktail Hour.

Makeup: Susan at A Women’s Way Medi Spa A++
I worked with Sue for months before the wedding also. She has been shaping my eyebrows and doing laser treatment on my upper lip. But her makeup skills are amazing. When she did my trial my eyes blew me away. I loved them. They looked so large and gorgeous. For my wedding she went above and beyond my expectations. My makeup looked beautiful. She also did my mom, my mother in law, and one of my bridesmaids. I didn’t make my bridesmaids use her but I gave them the option and Courtney had Sue do her makeup too. Her makeup looked fabulous.

My Dress: Pronovias – Manuel Mota A+++++
I had a very hard time finding my perfect dress. I went to at least ten bridal shops and had a ton of bad experiences. My mom dragged me to Pronovias because she saw a dress in a magazine she loved. (Which by the way ended up being the dress I chose, my mom knows me so well.) Sharon was my saleswoman and I just loved her. She was so nice and they treat you like a million dollars at Pronovias. After all the other dress stores, where I felt like they treated us terribly, Pronovias was a breath of fresh air. You go in and they sit you down with books and you tell them what styles you like. Then they take you up to the fitting rooms, offer you beverages like water, tea or champagne, and then bring the dresses into you. They don’t care if you take pictures of the dresses and they were so patient as I kept going back and forth between my two final dress choices. I love my dress, it is everything I wanted and its made so well. It’s actually 7 layers and each layer adds something to how the dress looked. And the lace is perfect.

My favorite part about Pronovias was there was no worrying about when my dress would be in or worrying about getting a fitting appointment with Pronovias. You’re dealing with the manufacturer store, so they know exactly when the dress will come in and they make your first fitting appointment when you order the dress. Carola was our seamstress and my experience with her was great as well. She was so patient as I took pictures and tried on stuff with my dress. Then she did a great job hemming each layer of the dress.

I loved my dress the day of the wedding. It was amazing. I loved the way it looked, felt and the way it twirled and swayed as I moved around.

My dress in the magazine add:

From the day of:

Veil: Tri County Flee Market, Barrons A-
A lot of brides on LIW said to go to Barrons for my veil. They were right. The woman had a ton of selections but I felt like she was a little snotty with me. We ordered the veil in March. She asked my wedding day and told me it would be ready in July. My mom wanted to know if we could get the veil sooner, but the woman refused. But my veil came out beautifully and was exactly what I wanted. I also got my purse there and a pretty double white rose to put in my hair on my honeymoon.

My veil was falling off all day long, but that was my fault. I should have had it pinned in better.

My Purse:

Headpiece: Tri County Flee Market A
My headpiece was not from Barrons. She had a great selection but I wanted something that was a little simpler then what she had, and I found it in a stand at the back of Tri County. I loved my headpiece.

Hair: Woody at Salonne de Belisse, East Islip A++
Woody has been doing my hair since I was little, and I have crazy curly hair that is tough to work with, so it was a no brainer to have Woody do it. She did my highlights twice over the summer. She was so careful to not bleach it out that she actually went very easy on my the first time in May and then had me come in so she could look at it and through in a few extra packets a week later. Then in July she touched up my roots and added some low lights to make the color more natural. She is an AMAZING colorist. My hair for the wedding was beautiful. At my trial she tried loose curls and tight curls and everyone agreed tight curls were the way to go. I wasn’t sure after my trial, I thought it looked to much like my everyday hair. But the end result was beautiful. I couldn’t be happier. I am so glad I went with tight curls and a half up, half down hair style. The curls were beautiful. I really loved my hair. Everyone has been saying they loved my hair because it looked like me but a formal me. A word of advice, don't try to do something that is so different from you. You want to look like a formal version of yourself. if that makes any sense.

These two photos were taken by my BM:

Undergarments: Blums, Patchogue A
This was a great experience, it was like one of those old style lingerie stores where you go in and they fit you. I liked my corset a lot. It was pretty and sexy at the same time and gave me a much nicer figure. It was fairly comfortable for a corset, though it still made dancing hard a little difficult and I have to say I couldn’t wait to get it off. But it looked great. I liked Blums. I wish I had been in a better place about my weight when I went there. I might have bought more for the honeymoon. I kept trying to get my mom to go back with me but she never did.

Garter: AC Moore B
It was super uncomfortable so I really didn’t wear it until about midway through the reception. It was cutting off my circulation so I took it off before I even left my house for the church. The toss garter was more uncomfortable so once it was off I kept the other one on. It looked nice though.

My Shoes & MOB Shoes: Sandy’s Shoes, Massapequa: A-
My shoes were super cute and Sandy’s had a great selection. Only problem was both my mom and I is that they never seemed to have a shoe we wanted in our size. They kept having to order the shoes for us in our size, then we would have to go back in to try them on. My mom had more even trouble with them. When she ordered her shoes in her size the woman wrote down the wrong name on the sales receipt. I am not sure where she even got the name she wrote down from. But consequently they never called my mom to tell her that her shoes were in. Finally I called to inquire about the shoes and they called us back to say they were in. Also when my mom wanted to get hers dyed they said 2 weeks, which seemed long to me. But they did it in a week and half, since my wedding was in 2 weeks and a day. But we both loved our shoes.

DOJ: My something Old and something Blue
I wore my aquamarine set in white gold necklace and bracelet that had been a gift from my parents many years ago.

Bridesmaid Dresses: Helens Bridal / Alfred Angelo A+
Working with Helens was easy. They were accommodating and helpful. We had a great time trying on dresses and they were very helpful. My girls narrowed in down to two dresses and one was the dress I wanted from the beginning, so that’s the dress they got. It was the perfect dress because its empire and it looked good on all of them. Helens was great with the fitting process also… My MOH lives in Paris and they took her measurements for me months before I had even chosen the dresses and kept them on file. Then they did a fitting during my shower weekend and set her up to pick up the dress the day before my wedding when she came back into town. Then when my BM from DC got sick and couldn’t make it up to NY they had no trouble shipping the dress down to DC for her so that she could get it fitted down there. Some of the girls took them to their own seamstresses because it was easier for them location wise, but the ones who got them fitted there had no problems and the dresses looked great. The color was Pool with the ribbons in Ivory.

Tuxes: Men’s Warehouse B-
I went to a local tux place first and it was a mess. Stuff everywhere on the floor and it took them 30 minutes to acknowledge us. Then they didn’t have a color that went with my BM dresses. So I tried Mens Warehouse. It was clean, they were helpful and they had the perfect match. Plus with 4 GMs and FIL living off Long Island we thought it would be easier. Then we went to pick them up. They sent DH and my dad home with the tuxes without having them try it on first. My fathers looked terrible, he returned it, got his money back and wore his own. My dad however is very difficult and he cannot buy a tux or suit off a rack so we should have known it would be a problem. DH’s pants legs were not right. In NJ FIL’s vest was the wrong size, BIL’s jacket was to long, other BIL’s pant legs were to long. It was a mess. Despite all the problems though, the tuxes were all there the day of and looked great (except my dad’s of course).

MOB Dress: Helen’s Bridal / Jovani A for dress itself and Helens, B for Jovani
My mom had a lot of trouble finding a dress she liked. Finally she found two Jovani dresses. Jovani did not impress me. The dress my mom got was beautiful but she wanted another dress that came in pink, but wanted to know what color pink first. Well they refused to give her a color swatch, and wouldn’t even commit to a shade of pink. Pink is a very broad color, so my mom got this teal dress instead. Despite all the issues, this dress was beautiful and looked just gorgeous on her. Helens was great as usual. The dress took a while to come in, but because of time they got my mom right in to fit it. It came out great. They did a wonderful job altering it, taking it up from the middle instead of the bottom and adding new pleats. It looked beautiful on her.

Dad’s Vest and Tie: DIY by my Mom A++++
My father looked and felt like a million bucks. He was so happy in his vest we called him the happy peacock. Just wanted to show it off. And look how nice it went with my mom's dress.

Limos: NY Style Limousine A+
I loved NY Style Limo, they were wonderful. The cars were clean and neat and well stocked. The drivers were polite and on top of things. They took care of things for me I would never even have thought of, like making sure the flowers came back from Lands End, where we took pictures, to my house to get on the boat. They were so efficient. They were also on top of making sure my dress always looked good and getting our receiving line going. Unfortunately we found ourselves dealing with a parade in the town of Sayville that effected getting to Lands End. The limo drivers handled it without a problem. They were there at the end of the night and helped make sure everything was loaded into the right cars, even the stuff that went in my parents van. They were also great about getting us to the airport on time for the honeymoon. We had an Austin Princess which my parents and I took to the church then DH and I were in it. We also had an Escalade for the BP.

Church: St. Patricks Roman Catholic Church, BayShore, NY (Father Tom Coogan) A+
Jason is Catholic but from NJ and I am Episcopal and not very religious. It was important to Jason to be married in the Catholic Church. So we were very excited when my neighbor got Father Tom to agree to marry us at St. Patricks. The church is beautiful and Father Tom Coogan was wonderful. The sermon was beautiful. Everyone loved the ceremony. I had heard a lot of negative reviews regarding dealing with the women who run the ceremony, and went into the rehearsal extremely nervous, but Phyllis was wonderful and patient. We had no problems with her at all. My only complaint with St. Patricks is that you can’t throw anything, so we used bubbles, which I really didn’t want.

The Rehearsal: Taken by my dad.

Us with Phyllis: Taken by my dad.

The Church:

Outside the church:

Programs/Menus: DIY A+
I loved my menus and my programs. They were both DIYs. The menus were printed and then rolled like scrolls. We found pretty ribbon at Michaels in the right colors that said Eat, Drink and Be Married and used the ribbon to wrap the scrolls. Rolling them was a great idea. They didn’t take up as much room on the table and they looked great. I think everyone loved them, though my guests did have fun playing with them.

Taken by Me:

The Program Fans were AMAZING, but they were a labor of love. I can’t tell you how difficult it was to make them ourselves and how hard we worked. A lot of girls have already asked me for how we did this. It involved my dad's manufacturing shop, a drill press and HOURS and HOURS. Many times my mom said she wished we had just bought them. It was a lot of work but the result was well worth it. Everyone loved their fans and almost everyone took them home.

Taken by my dad:

The Drill Press we used to make the fans:

E-Ring/ OurWedding Bands: Good Old Gold/Tacori A+
I had NOTHING to do with the selection of my e-ring. Actually if I had it would have been a lot simpler and it certainly wouldn’t have been Tacori, I always swore I didn’t like Tacori. But FH picked out the most beautiful ring. I LOVE IT!!! He had a great experience with Good Old Gold who helped him all the way through, from cutting down the diamond through getting it set. He obviously loved his experience with them because we got our wedding bands there too. I got the Tacori band that matched my e-ring. He got two rings, a beautiful but plane white gold ring and a titanium ring to wear when he is working on things, since he is an engineer.

Unity Candle: Creations by Pauline A+
I was super picky regarding my unity candle. I kept turning down every candle my mom showed me. We went all over creation looking for them. Somehow I came across mine on the internet and it had aquamarine crystals. It was perfect. I was so excited I ordered it immediately. It came quickly and with no problems and looked beautiful. Unfortunately I don’t have a good picture of it, so here is the picture of it from the webiste, not my actual candle.

Boat Entrance: A Gift (but from Surfside 3 Marina) A++++++++++++
The highlight of the entire day was arriving by boat with my bridal party. It made my wedding truly unique. We knew we were doing a boat entrance but we were so surprised to find a 58 foot bridge boat in my back yard with “Just Married 8-8-09” on the back. I had no idea Matt was going to put that on the boat. The boat was amazing and we had so much fun taking it from my parent’s house to Lands End with all our friends on board. I think the 45 minutes spent on the boat was the highlight of the day. Pulling in and seeing all our friends and family lined up on the dock was an incredible feeling and we felt like celebrities. The pictures from the boat are absolutely amazing.

On the boat in between: (Taken by BMs, the photographer was not on the boat)

Re: In Progress... My 8-8-09 Supersized Review… Lands End, Pronovias, A Current Affair, North Island Photo, Wild Rose, Lovin Oven Florist, Helens Bridal, Fat Cat Paperie, Hawaii and so much more.

Photographer: North Island Photography (Michael Rosengard) A+++++++++ UPDATED WITH PHOTOS!
My very first meeting with Michael was amazing and I knew he would take beautiful photographs of us. My father put it best saying that “You go to most photographers and you see beautiful pictures of beautiful people in their portfolios, but Michael takes pictures that make average people look beautiful and you can see that in his photos.” I knew that by picking him I would look back on my photos in 30 years and say, we were beautiful. He didn’t disappoint. I have over 1500 proofs and some great shots. He was also great to work with, he is cheery and enthusiastic and gave us great direction. He kept watching my shoulder and correcting them (my posture is terrible.)

I have two complaints…
1) There is no traditional shot of DH and I, you know standing next to each other with the dress fanned out, the one all our parents have. However I should have asked for this.
2) We were squinting in our formals. It is not his fault the sun was so strong and you had to face it to have the water behind and I requested that pictures be taken on the docks and on the rock wall, but I wish he would have suggested taking photos with our family and BP in other spots where we were not squinting. Because of the boat element however we were a bit tight on time.

Don’t let me complaints however take away from the fact the pictures are gorgeous. I can’t wait to have some digitally to put up here. I put up some I scanned but I know that they will be better when they are not scanned proofs and are touched up a little bit.

Here is a link to my wedding on his blog: North Island's Web Blog - Jason & Michelle

My Album is FABULOUS!!! I can't even explain how beautiful it is. Richard worked a lot with us to make it exactly what we wanted it to be. The artistry in it is gorgeous and he did such a fabulous job showcasing my beautiful photos. Every detail of the book, the way it is composed, the way its put together, the beautiful aqua and silver cover, is truly beautiful.

Here are some of the album pages:

Videographer: Wild Rose Video
Again I don’t want to rank them fully until I get the final video, but judging from my trailer I am really impressed. I have loved working with them from the very beginning. We did the highest package so we had two cameras all day long. They filmed both of us getting ready and then had three cameras for us at the church. Camera one all day was Dave and he was fantastic. We actually had fun having him with us on the boat and even in our limo at one point. He was fun and made us relax. I couldn’t believe the moments they captured on film. Many times I didn’t even realize they were there and clearly they were around capturing the moments.

Here is a link to my wedding trailer:

Our Wedding Trailer

Coach Bus from Hotel to Reception Hall: Mark of Elegance A+
Second 27 Passenger Bus from Hotel to Reception Hall: NY Style Limos A+

The buses were great and as far as I know there were no complaints. Of course I wasn’t on them, but I think everyone was happy with them and appreciated having the transportation. All the young people hung back and hopped on the smaller bus. I know they had a great time on it and no one complained. It was so nice to have the buses, so many of our young guests stayed at the hotel and they were able to really enjoy themselves knowing they didn’t have to drive home.

Reception Hall: Lands End A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
What can I say about Lands End? I don’t even think I could give it enough +s to do it justice. Everything about Lands End was amazing. Lets start with my BM Judy. I love Judy. She was always available to answer my questions. She never thought they were silly or unnecessary. Every time we went in, which was probably more frequently then necessary, we were met with a huge smile. The month leading up to the wedding Lands End was amazing. When they learned Sayville was having a parade in town from 5-7pm (my cocktail hour started at 7) they called me immediately and asked for my complete guest list. They sent all of my guests, even the ones overseas, a copy of revised directions to avoid the parade route. They took care of the whole thing and all I had to do was e-mail Judy the list. Two days before the wedding we brought everything into the RH. Judy went through everything with me, categorizing it, making sure it was on her list and making 100% sure they did exactly what I wanted with each thing.

Fast forward to the day of. My church ended at 3:30pm but I couldn’t go there until 4:30 because they had an event that morning. We stalled at the church a bit and then our limo company took their time driving us to Lands End but we still got there a little early. The limo company was in touch with Lands End and they were great, they met us in the back. They were there with the bridal attendant, maitre d and our BM. They brought us around the side and gave my wedding party food and beverages immediately. As we were taking pictures we decided we should have had the girls bring their bags out of the limo with their flip-flops. While we were taking some photos the bags appeared. Then they took the bags up to the bridal suite for the girls. All through pictures they were great. Between shots they were there with water for me. If I needed to change shoes they would run and get them. They were incredible. When we left to go back to the boat for our entrance they asked me what drinks we liked. I told them I like Malibu Bay Breezes and Jason told them Captain and Cokes, but we mentioned we were looking forward to the cocktail hour Pina Colodas. The minute we got off the boat they were there with drinks for my Bridal Party and Pina Colodas for DH and I. Then all night they kept my drink full with fresh Malibu Bay Breezes. Every time we went back to our table there was a fresh full drink waiting for us. During the cocktail hour they had a dedicated tray of hor d’oeurves that was just for us. They made sure we got to try anything we wanted. It was really amazing to be waited on like that.

The cocktail hour was amazing. My guests were greeted with Cosmos, Apple Martinis, Pina Coladas and Strawberry Daqueries. We had three stations set up. My guests loved the pasta station and several people told me they were the best raviolis they ever had. The carving station of steak had so many great sides my mom thought she was in heaven. All my guests were complimenting the food and the atmosphere. You can’t beat the location and having the cocktail hour on that dock overlooking the bay. My only complaint at the cocktail hour was that the salads and cheese were inside and no one even knew they were there. I think maybe they need to have a way to direct people inside.

The reception was magnificent and the food was incredible. For an appetizer we got the sweet onion waffle with prosciutto, tomato and mozzarella. It was amazing! My guests are still talking about it. Even DH and I made sure to take the time to eat it. The entrees were great as well. The filet mignon cut like butter. We got one of each entrée and anything we didn’t eat they wrapped up for us. It was great to try them all, though the filet was my favorite, but I love steak. Just when you thought it couldn’t get better out came the fabulous dessert carts. Everyone has been telling us that it was the best food they ever had at a wedding. Comments I hear regularly were, “I’ve never left a wedding that full.” “It was restaurant food, not catering hall food.” My BIL is in the restaurant and catering business and is very picky. He looks for something wrong with every place we ever go. His comment about Lands End was, “they did a great job, everything was wonderful.” DH’s cousins are in the food industry and they were raving about the food as well.

The Tomato and Onion Waffle... I 100% recommend it. 2 months later and guests are still talking about it.

I am so glad we chose Lands End. It was completely wonderful and the right place for us. (All the on the water pics were also taken at Lands End, along with the gorgeous night pics.)

Cocktail Hour Music: Steel Sensations A+
The steel band made the cocktail hour. They were fantastic and made the cocktail hour feel summery and gave it a tropical happy hour atmosphere perfect for Jason and I. They also put everyone in the mood to party.

Note: We booked them through Current Affair Music Inc. so I didn't really have to deal with them. Booking them through our band was great because we didn't have to worry about them at all.

Cocktail Napkins: The Knot A
I loved my cocktail napkins. It was a last minute decision and so worried they wouldn't come in time, but they came in with time to spare. Only problem with The Knot is they are not good about telling you when something has shipped.

Sand Dollar Place Cards: DIY/ Deltona Seashells & Gifts

Deltona Seashells and Gifts Website

The sand dollars came from Deltona Seashells and Gifts. My mom shopped around online for the best price. She got the 3.4-4' sand-dollars and paid $.85 a piece. There was only one broken on in the whole box. My mom wrote the names on all of the sand dollars in calligraphy. To write on them she used scrap book calligraphy markers (after trying about 15 different methods including paint). A hint to anyone who does this… you go through a lot of markers because writing on sand dollars is like writing on sand paper, it wears down the markers quickly. DH made the beautiful white trays himself. We bought the sand at a toy store & Home Depot (white sand). To give it an extra sparkle I sprinkled Martha Stewart crystal course glitter on top of the the sand, which I purchased from Michaels.

The shells I brought home from Florida (some I found on the beach, some I bought at a shell store) and I sprayed glitter onto some of them but not all of them. Then we put them in the trays in alphabetical order, then scattered them slightly to make them look less symmetrical and add the shells.

Coral Candlesticks: Kohls A
I saw these candlesticks in Kohls and new they would be perfect to put behind the sand dollars. We gave them to the florist and had her work these in to the décor for the escort table. They looked great and make a beautiful edition to my house. I don't have a good picture of them behind the sand dollars, but here they are.

Flowers/Chinese Lanterns: Lovin Oven Floral Design B
I hate that I have to give them a B because my flowers were beautiful. The gothic candelabras and the pew bows were perfect and made the church look beautiful. The guy’s boutonnières, and the corsages for everyone was exactly what I wanted. And my centerpieces were perfect. I told Melissa that I wanted the room to feel pink and she accomplished it. Then they found me turquoise beads to put in the fluted vases and added orchids going up the vases. My mom found submergible lights and Melissa and my mom worked together to find the perfect place to put the lights. They looked BEAUTIFUL!!!!! We got turquoise and white globes for the ceiling, which added dimension to the room and made a beautiful backdrop for pictures and dancing.

There are two reasons they get a B rating. The first was the lighting of the globes. We said from the get go we wanted to light them but Melissa talked us out of lighting them because (as she showed us) lighting the turquoise ones with the white lights made them look purple. She kept telling us it didn’t add that much to the room. But other people who had events at Lands End, including my videographer and my Banquet Manager, told me I should absolutely light them. My mom insisted on having the globes lit and I was so glad she did. Then my mom went online and found turquoise lights for inside the balls and water submergible lights for inside the centerpieces and brought them to Lovin Oven. Melissa still argued with us about the lighting and said that the centerpiece lights wouldn’t look good because of the spots on the flowers.

The lighting of the centerpieces and the globes is what made the room. People actually thought we hired a lighting director. Everyone said the room was amazing. I give my mom, not Melissa, the credit for the lighting.

The other reason for the B is the bouquets. My bouquet was perfect, but the minute I met Melissa we told her that my whole vision for the wedding was based on a picture. I had seen a picture where the bridesmaids were in turquoise dresses holding bright pink flowers and that was my theme for the wedding. I wanted bright pink flowers to pop against the turquoise. The only exception we made was for my MOH who was supposed to have A FEW light pink roses mixed in. At one point when I was reviewing the contract I noticed that the same roses were listed in my bouquet as in my Bridesmaids, which I new wasn’t correct. I immediately e-mailed Melissa and she called me back and told me it was ok, she knew they had to be bright pink and not to worry about it. My bouquets showed up and had white roses mixed into the pink ones. I was so upset. But what really upset me was that when we called Lovin Oven hours before my wedding, rather then just agree to fix the problem they got defensive. They argued with us that it was correct because that is what the contract said. My mom had to spend the morning of my wedding pulling out my contract and fighting on the phone with Keith. They did finally fix the flowers and other then my MOH’s they were exactly what I wanted, although I think they made them smaller when fixing them. My MOH’s was pretty but it wasn’t right, it was mostly light pink with a few mini dark pink roses mixed in. So even though the flowers were absolutely beautiful the B is for screwing up and for making my mom’s morning stressful. She never fully recovered from that and relaxed to enjoy the day. She wasn’t ready in time to help me get dressed in pictures, she wasn’t relaxed for photos, it was aggravating.

I think Lovin Oven does a great job, but I recommend working with Keith from the get go.

Sea Animal Glass Candle Holders: Wedding Star A+
They were backordered. But they were smart enough to call and see if it was a problem. They came in plenty of time for the wedding. They were great quality and looked so nice around the tables. They added something to the room and bridged the formal and sea shore elements of the wedding.

Salt Water Taffy: Berkley Sweet Shop A
This was the NJ Shore element of our wedding. The highlight of this was going to Berkley on the NJ Boardwalk in Seaside. The owner was there and she was so helpful. We wanted pink and white and she gave us watermelon flavored, which isn’t usually in the wheel. They do actual favors, but we just got buckets and just spread the taffy around the tables. She was very helpful. She recommended that we keep it in a cool room and packed them up for us. DH was upset though because only the long ones said Berkley on them and we wanted the little cute round ones.

Favors: Shell Cheese Knives from The Wedding Coach A-
It took me a while to find a good favor because I honestly hate the idea of giving out junk and to do food would have been overkill with the dessert carts… but I think everyone enjoyed the cheese knives. Some of the boxes were a little dented but we were able to fix them. Otherwise the qualities of the knives were good.

Favor Wrapping: DIY A+
We wrapped them ourselves in Tiffany Blue wrapping paper (Hallmark) with ivory ribbons (ordered online). Then for Italian tradition we added the almonds and tool (Michaels.)

In this picture with my BM's date, taken by my BM you can see how well the wrapping went with the dresses:

Table Names: DIY A+
Simple and romantic is what I wanted. My mom made these beautiful signs and we put them in frames provided by Lands End. Each sign had a shell from my running theme and the tables were named after beach towns on the Gulf Coast of Florida, the NJ Shore, Hawaii and Long Island. All named after towns we go to together or were going to in Hawaii.

Taken by a BM - all the loot she went home with.

Card Box: The Perfect Card Box (www.kellymariecollections.com) A+
When we went to look at Lands End we saw this card box and we loved it. I tracked it down thanks to my LIW friends and the Internet. I loved the card box. It looked great and it was so nice that it locked.

Taken at my house before the wedding:

Taken by a BM at the wedding:

Reception Music: A Current Affair (Current Affair Music Inc.)
A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Of all my vendors, they were the most amazing, and I had a lot of great vendors.
I knew A Current Affair was an amazing band before we even hired them, why else would my father have a collection of cards from parties he went to that were almost all from A Current Affair. I heard them play at the Jones Beach Band Shell and I was instantly hooked. And they were excellent. I have never ever been to a wedding were the dance floor was packed from the first note, but it happened at mine. The minute the toasts ended and the band started playing, before a thing was served, everyone was up. Except for about a half hour at dinner the dance floor was jam packed from beginning to end. Even during dinner more people were dancing then normal. A Current Affair plays every genre and time period and everything sounds amazing. Sometimes you have to stop and look because you are convinced it’s the actual band. They even played songs that were only 3 weeks old. I also loved them because they played the crowd. They didn’t need much direction from me and they didn’t need to have an MC, like a DJ. By the way, DH and I are huge Bon Jovi fans and they covered Living on the Prayer so well everyone thought it was the original.

Rocking out to Living on a Prayer:

This is what the dance floor looked like ALL night. From the end of the first dance through the last song, except for a 15 min period during dinner.

Ballroom Dancing Lessons: LI Ballroom Dance, John A+
John is the best, the absolute best. With three months left he came every week to help us learn how to dance. We made a beautiful routine to Don’t Want to Miss A Thing, but he also taught us to dance in a way that allowed us to adapt things to other songs. He taught us a few other moves too, like Swing and the Fox Trot. I loved our routine. It started off slow and then built up with moves like the throw-away and the cuddle turn and my personal favorite the final dip. He also taught my dad and I how to Waltz to Daddy’s Little Girl in only one lesson. I highly recommend taking ballroom dancing lessons and I highly recommend John.

Wedding Cake: Audrey’s Fine Baked Goods A+
My wedding cake was exactly what I wanted it to be, both in looks and in taste. It was gorgeous covered in gum paste Lily’s and roses like my bouquet, and ribbons to go with the ribbons running through the entire wedding. The cake was yellow cake with raspberry and chocolate mousse filling. It was delicious. I got lots of compliments.

Cake Topper: E-Bay A+
I didn’t want a cake topper because I wanted flowers on the top of the cake, until I saw the rhinestone letter. I loved the B. With the lighting in the room it made the cake glisten and looked so pretty on top of the flowers.

Pic by Guest:

Hotel for OOT Guests: The Hyatt Windwatch A+
The Hyatt was great. I got a terrific room rate and they were very accommodating. I ended up with over 30 rooms blocked and two suites. Which meant we booked more then 10 more then I had planned. They were able to accommodate me. My guests loved having the use of the two pools, especially the outdoor pools, and my friends gathered in the bar until after 2am. The only problem was their was a wedding at the hotel that night and one of the guests from that hotel was throwing up in the lobby. But that is not the fault of the hotel, more the fault of that wedding group. Our room was beautiful though and had a fridge to put our leftover food. We were greeted with chocolate covered strawberries and champagne. I wish we would have had a little more time there.

The Post Wedding Brunch
I am not rating this, it was at my house and was simple. Our neighbors came to help us make eggs and we bought rolls, muffins and coffee cakes. But if I can make one suggestion to future brides it is try to do something like this. It was so nice to really have time with our many OOT guests. Had it not been for the brunch I wouldn't have gotten to talk to my godfather at all, DH's CT co-workers or many my OOT friends.

Re: In Progress... My 8-8-09 Supersized Review… Lands End, Pronovias, A Current Affair, North Island Photo, Wild Rose, Lovin Oven Florist, Helens Bridal, Fat Cat Paperie, Hawaii and so much more.

HONEYMOON: HAWAII A+++++++

Our honeymoon was absolutely amazing. I loved every single second of the trip. If I could relive the wedding or the honeymoon again, I would choose the honeymoon. It was so nice having just him and I, with no one around to bother us and no one calling his cell and the time. It was romantic and relaxing. Unfortunately my camera was in TV Mode the WHOLE TRIP. I didn’t even know that my camera had a TV mode. So all my photos are low resolution. It is breaking my heart.

The Waikoloa Marriot Resort & Spa, The Big Island A++++++++++++
DH and I just loved this hotel. My uncle called ahead and told them his niece was coming in on her honeymoon and since we were on my dad’s Marriot points and both my uncle and dad are HUGE Marriott customers, they upgraded our already Ocean Front room to one of the best rooms in the house. The view from our room was amazing. Wailkoloa has one of the best beaches on the Big Island and the Marriott’s beach is the one you see on the Big Island post cards. In between the hotel and the beach is a huge fish pond with a lava rock path around the pond. The hotel has a great Infinity Pool and a lovely outdoor restaurant.

Sunshine Helicopter Tours A++++++
This two hour helicopter tour was absolutely amazing. We saw the volcano and the waterfalls from the air. DH got a little air sick, so do yourself a favor and if you are prone to motion sickness don’t hold the camera. But we both highly recommend this tour to everyone who wants to see the volcano but doesn’t have the time to drive the hours and hours to see the little bit that is viewable from Volcano National Park.

The Waikoloa Aloha Luau A+++++++
We loved this luau, though the fact it was on the Marriott property didn’t hurt. The show was entertaining, the open bar was flowing with great drinks and the food was great. It is a full Polynesian luau, meaning it has the fire eaters. A lot of people came from other resorts including the Hilton Waikoloa Village, because apparently the Marriott’s luau is both better and cheaper.

DH tries the Poi

The Canoe House A++++++++++++++++++++
This was DH and my favorite meal on the Big Island and possibly on the whole trip. It was also our second most expensive meal, but worth every penny. We called the Marriott a few months ahead and asked for a recommendation and they made us these reservations. I was concerned because the Frommer Guide and other travel books said that the Canoe House was overrated. Well thank you Marriott. We had a beautiful table along the rock waterfall overlooking the beach as the sun set over it. But every seat seemed to have a good view. The food was FANTASTIC and the service was great. We felt truly special.

Grand Wailea Resort and Spa, Maui A-
This hotel was the opposite of the Marriott. It was crazy and opulent, but beautiful. I couldn’t believe how amazing the property was as we walked around it. Our room and view were incredible, but the place is definitely a lot busier. It is one of those hotels where you have to fight for your chaise lounge, but each day we were there the hotel was less and less crowded and we were enjoying the property more. The family pool, which consists of about 7 pools attached by waterslides and an in-pool grotto bar, is a lot of fun, but it gets old with all the kids and there is no service. By the 4th day we figured out the best thing to is to lie out at the adult pool where you get treated like the true resort guest and walk over to the family pool for a lap around the slides. The Bistro, Café and Grand Buffet are all amazing restaurants and I hear the Spa is incredible, though we did not use it because its EXPENSIVE.

Humuhumunukunukuapua’a D
The Grand Wailea’s fancy restaurant was a HUGE disappointment. Despite telling them we were there on our honeymoon we were delegated to a back table with no view. As we looked around we realized that all the young honeymoon couples were treated the same way while the families enjoyed the beautiful romantic views of the Ocean. The service was only ok and the food was nothing exciting. If I could do dinner over again though, we would have shared a drink from a giant coconut, because I think that was the only redeeming thing about the restaurant.

Trilogy Sailing Tours A+++
If I could recommend one activity in Hawaii it would be this. We did the Lanai Sunrise cruise, which meant getting up super early, but it was totally worth it. We started the day with a cruise from Maui to Lanai as the sun is coming up over the islands. It was breathtaking. The trip brings you to Manele Bay, which is one of the best snorkeling beaches in the world. We also got a van tour of Lanai City, a tiny little town that was so fun to see. On the way back to Maui they launched the sails and we had a leisurely trip back. It was fun and romantic.

Old Lahaina Luau A-
This luau is traditionally Hawaiian, which means it doesn’t have the fire dancers and the other Polynesian cultures (only Tahitian). But it was amazing. The grounds were so much fun, with the Hawaiian tribe demonstrating crafts and digging up the traditional pig. The food was delicious and traditional with a never ending flow of fun tropical drinks. The show itself was a little short but highly entertaining.
