My July 31, 2005 Flowerfield Wedding Review

First of all the weather was perfect. It was the first time I ever saw a weather forcast online with 0% chance of rain. It was hot like 80 but not too humid at all…just a perfect summer day!

With that said, here is my review. First off all my vendors we wonderful. My husband and I planned our wedding from Buffalo where we are both in dental school and we got engaged in 9/04 so we only really had 10 and a half months to plan so anything is possible. We are really easy going though so we didn’t really stress or worry about anyone and I am glad we didn’t since they were all so great! The hardest part was finding a place because we are both so picky but after 17 places we walked into Flowerfield and the search stopped there. I was immediately in love! Our wedding day was by far the best day of our lives. We still can not stop reliving it.

First the most important…my (brides) parents 10000+++/10
The really are the greatest. Without them we could have never planned our wedding from so far with such a short amount of time. Basically they did whatever we wanted them to. Since we could never be home during the week we sent them to band showcases, to drop off all our deposits, meet with vendors, and so much more. They were so great about everything and never disagreed with what we wanted and never complained about the money once since they paid for everything down to the bubbles for the ceremony.

Now to our vendors…

Invitations
Invites by Cecilia 10/10
This was the hardest part of wedding planning for my husband and I. People kept telling us that we were paper snobs. We spent forever looking for invitations. We mostly looked in Buffalo and after about 4 weekends spending each weekend day searching we finally found an invitation by ELITE Weddings II at a store in Buffalo. We really wanted to order our invitations on Long Island because I knew my mom and grandma would be putting them together. I decided to fly in to long island for a weekend so we could find a place that had the invites and order them. Well the Thursday before I was coming home my mom got a call on her machine and it was a woman named Cecilia that did invitations. She got our name because she also works at Adrienne’s where my mom and I got our dress. So my mom asked if she could do the invitation we wanted and sure enough she could and she gave us a nice discount. She was so nice and great to be around. I must have called her 20 times to change stuff on or proof and she was always great. I went in knowing what I wanted so I don’t know how it is to go to her with no idea what you want but I sure it would be fine. She is located in West Islip and definitely worth checking out if you are on the hunt for invitations. FM me if you would like her information.

Gorgeous Faces
Sarah and Bridget (hair) 10+/10
We decided that they would come at 6:00 am since I wanted everyone ready at 9:00 am. They showed up early which I could not believe since it was so early in the morning and were so nice and friendly. They worked so quickly. They had 7 of us to do and they were done before 8:00 am. It was awesome!
Sarah did my hair and she did it exactly how I wanted it. After my trial I loved how my hair looked but I kept think I wish I had something on my face well the morning of my wedding it is like she read my mind because as she was doing my hair she left a little piece out and said I think this would look awesome and since I had no mirror in front of me I said go with it. After she was done and I looked at my hair I could not have been happier. It was so perfect. She also did my moms hair and my mom had no idea what she wanted so she just let Sarah do whatever she thought. My mom was very happy and her hair looked great!
Between Sarah and Bridget they did 5 of my bridesmaids. They worked so quickly and all my bridesmaids were very happy with there hair and they all looked beautiful.

Jillian (Make-up) 10/10
When I had my trial with Jillian I was really happy with it so I booked her right on the spot with no other trials. The morning of she did a great job. She also arrived early and was smiling even though it was so early. She did makeup for 5 people total and everyone was very happy with how they looked.

Adriennes- My gown and my moms dress 10/10
My mom and I both got our dresses at Adriennes. I knew I wanted a Maggie Sottero because I wanted a corset back. I knew nothing about dresses. I still know nothing about dresses. But I got a dress that was just about what I always imagined I would wear on my wedding day. Once again with limited time I only went dress shopping at Adriennes. My mom and I actually went on Black Friday because that was the only time I would be home till late December and I did not want to wait that long to start looking. It was a great experience. Kathleen was my salesperson and even though I kept going back and forth between 2 dresses and kept asking to see another and then another to make sure I was getting what I wanted she was so nice! When I decided my dress was the one she immediately picked out a veil that she said matched exactly and sure enough it did and I was in love and so was my mom. My dress came in early then they told me it would and I had my first fitting about 5 weeks before my wedding. I only needed minor alterations the dress pretty much fit perfect and it was a corset back. But the one thing I wanted was a really nice bustle. I don’t know what any bustles are called but my seamstress was so intricate and EXACTLY what I wanted. I had a huge smile on my face when my seamstress showed it to me. My seamstress was Elizabeth and she truly was the greatest. I could not stop hugging her when I went for my final fitting. Actually when I went for my final fitting my appointment was at 5:00 and when we got there they told my mom and I that Elizabeth had a crazy morning and was still working on the bustle so we told them we would come back in like and hour and they said great. When we got back Elizabeth was all worried we would be mad…I am not sure why…I would rather my dress be perfect then have her rush. And perfect it was! If you got your dress at Adriennes definitely request her.
My mom also got her dress here. She actually had seen the dress on the Mon Cheri website and had become obsessed with it. Well when we walked in to Adriennes the dress she wanted was staring right at us. It was fate. After I decided on my dress and veil I begged her to try on the dress. And she did. The color was great and from what we could tell the dress would look great but the sample was a 16 and mom is this tiny petite woman so it was hard to tell even with pinning it. Kathleen also helped us. We were having some problems deciding what size to order so Kathleen called over the owner who not only gave my mom 10% off since I got my dress there but picked the perfect size so like me my mom barely needed any alterations besides a bustle. Rosalie did her alterations and what she did she did great with. My mom and I would recommend them to everyone!

Headpiece- Barrons 10/10
I didn’t want a tiara. I really just wanted a simple double head band with crystals like the swarovski crystals on my dress. Well unfortunately Adriennes had nothing that I was looking for and swarvoski only had tiaras so after see recommendations on liweddings I figured I would give it a chance. They had exactly what I was looking for it. And my mom and I could not believe the price either. The headpiece was perfectly and matched my dress, veil and earrings exactly. They have a huge selection. I couldn’t imagine any place having more of a selection.

Earrings- Swarovski in Roosevelt Field Mall 10/10
Since my dress was all crystals I figured why not go to swarvoski and get matching earrings. They have a great selection. I actually bought 2different pairs and brought them to my fitting and decided on the best one. I was very happy with my earrings.

Priscilla of Boston for Bridemaids Dresses 10+/10
I got an email from Priscilla of boston, I guess from putting my email in on some wedding site, and the dress in the message of the email was the exact dress I had always envisioned my bridesmaids wearing. My husband and I had always talked about wanting black bridesmaid dresses since before we were even engaged. And both of us love pink so we knew our wedding colors would be black and pink. Over winter break for school all my bridesmaids came into town since they were all from out of town except one, and we went to Priscilla and tried the dress. They all loved it and so did I. Everyone placed there order right there. They were so nice and helpful. It was tons of fun being there. The dresses came in in less then 3 months and they shipped the dresses to all my bridesmaids immediately. Some of them just go the dresses shipped to a different Priscilla store or to them directly. They were so nice every time I called or they called me. They really have wonderful customer service. All my girls fit into there dresses great and did not need many alterations besides a bustle hook.

RSVP Tuxedo’s in Bay Shore 10+/10
We went to RSVP because it is pretty close to where my parents live. My husband was pretty picky about the tux he wanted he wanted something a little different. RSVP had a great selection. We were in there forever because we were not sure what we wanted for our groomsmen. We were pretty sure we wanted a black tux with a black vest and pink tie since the bridesmaids dresses were all black with a pink sash down the side. The only thing was we didn’t know if we liked the solid or something with a little print. Unfortunately they did not have the solid pink tie in the store. They told us they could get it for us and since we were leaving in 2 days to go back to buffalo they got it for us the next day. We went back and he tried on both styles and after going back forth we made up our minds. They were so patient with us. The service was excellent and that was on a busy Saturday. All of our groomsmen were from out of town and all of them mailed in there measurements. Out of 9 tuxedos the only person that had a problem was my brother cause he thought the jacket was little tight when he got home and tried it on. He went back and they immediately fixed to his liking. The guys looked great and my husband looked so amazing!!


Bridesmaid Gifts- Saks fifth Avenue 10/10
I got all my bridesmaids robes from Saks Fifth Avenue and got them embroided with their names by a woman in Buffalo. They looked great and the Saks robes were great quality.

Groomsmen Gifts- Banana Republic
We got our groomsmen gym bags from banana and got the embroided with there monogram by the same woman as above. They looked great!

Ketubah- ketubahketubah.com 10/10
They were fast and efficient with our ketubah especially since it was a last minte decision to get one.

Flower Michele- 10+++++++/10
All I can say is OH MY GOD. He read mine and my husband’s minds. Gorgeous is the only word to describe my centerpieces. When I saw my sample I walked in and before he could say anything I was like if that is my centerpiece I love it. At our design meeting I told him what I thought I wanted and a week before my sample I sent him a picture of what I really wanted but just with all pinks and sure enough he did exactly what we wanted. At our final meeting he made us so excited my husband and I had 100% confidence in him. When he got to Flowerfield and John came to bridal suite with our bouquets I wanted to hug him. The bouquets were great. Mine was just like the picture I showed him. And while we were outside taking picture, Gary Leli our photographer turned to my husband and I and said you are going to be so excited when you see the gazebo. He loved the flowers as well and that was coming from someone who is at weddings all the time! The ballroom was truly were breathtaking with the centerpieces. I told him to decorate the cake however he wanted all I said was that it had to be pink flowers and the rest was up to him. He did a great job. I would not have wanted it any different. If you don’t have florist call John now!

Arthur Murray (Buffalo) 10++/10
I truly am the worst dancer in the world. My husband and I signed up for eight private lessons to choreograph our first dace to Shania Twain “Forever and For Always.” The told us it would be difficult since it is not such a slow song. Well our dance teacher did a great job with us. I loved our first dance so much. My husband and will still do it randomly in or living room. Everyone cold not stop talking about how great it was. Dance lessons was one of the best wedding decisions we made.

Timepiece Band of Franklin Wayne Band 10+/10
Trying to find a band from long distance planning is very difficult. I called flowerfield and asked our Banquet manager what bands she would recommend after telling her what my husband and I like. We are young and our wedding was 80% friends so we wanted new music so she recommended Timepiece. We got a bunch of DVD’s as well of bands that were recommended by friends and narrowed it down from there. We sent my parents to the showcases of the band we liked and then would tell them to listen to Z100 and tell us if it was the same kind of music. They loved Timepiece so we booked them. We had them for ceremony music (a keyboard and flute) and it sound beautiful, and for cocktail hour we had a piano player who was also great and at the reception they kept the party going. They never slowed it down which was great because no one wanted to stop dancing. They learned our first dance song and sounded perfect!!!! My parents surprised me by having the cat in the hat coming and my mom wanted me to dance to Phil Collins “You’ll be in my heart” and during dinner they realized they did not have the music so they quickly went online and got it. They really read the crowd well. Still 2 months later everyone keeps telling us how great they were and how they want them for their own wedding.

OOT guests hotel- Hampton Inn Islandia 8/10
They were alright. Every time we called or went there they were a little confused. But the price was good and the location was convenient. Actually after we signed the contract we called to say that we wanted it cheaper and because my MOH found that it was the same price to book online through AAA so they lowered the price by $10. We did not have that many OOT guests so it really did not matter

Ebay- Wedding Favors 10/10
We had the love coasters as one of our favors. There was not one left on the tables. Our friends were really happy with them and so were we and we got them for a great price. They came quickly and were wrapped nicely.

Labels- CustomLabelsForU.com 10++/10
We ordered labels from them to put on the back of the coasters since we did not like the thank you card that came on the coasters. They labels came in 3 days and looked so good. Everyone kept commenting on how cute they were. We just ordered return address labels from them for our thank you’s and they came out great as well. I highly recommend them if you need labels.

My husband was insistent on having something different for a placecard so my mom found those paper chairs that fold up and have a favor box attached to them. He loved them. So we put black, pink and white M&M’s inside them (my husband is obsessed with M&M’s) and wrapped them with black card stock and tied them with a pink bow (the only DIY thing I did). We were really happy with how they came out. During our engagement pictures we took a picture hold a blank white sign so that we could photo shop onto the sign. For the placecard table we wrote please take your seat and then each of the table numbers were 4x6 pictures in frames of us holding the numbers. It came together nicely. We ordered the M&M’s from shop.mms.com and they came very quickly and wrapped really well in a cooler.

My mom ordered a signing plate for josh and I as a surprise. She was able to design the bride and groom to look just like us…if we were cartoon characters…haha!! It was so cute and a great memory to have. She was able to put a little poem on the back. We loved it.

My husband and I really was pink bows to tie around the white chair covers and after much research we found this Michigan based company. They sent us samples of the different pink fabrics that they has and we decided to go with them for the light pink satin bows because they had the best price we could find and they said they would ship them directly to flowerfield and have someone pick them up the following day. The week before the wedding there was a little confusion if we ordered the organza or the satin but it all got straightened out and the bows arrived on time, in great condition and flowerfield set them all up very nicely. They really gave the room the look we wanted.

Cat in the Hat- costmed character 7/10
I have an obsession with the cat in the hat so parents thought it would be funny to surprise me with a life size cat in the hat. After dinner ended I was wondering what everyone was waiting for. Well then my brother got up and read this rhyming dr. seuss-like poem so I knew what was to come. Josh and I were cracking up the whole time. I got up and danced with the cat for one song and everyone was laughing. It was a really personalized touch. My parents were a little nervous I would be mad… nt it truly made the wedding more memorable. After we got home that night my mom told me that the reason it seemed like there was waiting was because the cat was 5 minutes late. A little annoying when everything is so scheduled but since that is the only thing that went a little wrong and it was so minor I will take it. But if anyone is looking for something like this FM me and I will find out the company’s name.

Audrey’s Bakery- Wedding Cake and Grooms Cake 10+++/10
My husbands father collects Porsches so for a long time I had planned on getting him a Porsche grooms cake and I found a picture of the exact cake online so I knew it would be easy. Well a week before our rehearsal I changed my mind and decided to do a Ferrari cake since he kept talking about this Ferrari that kept driving by my parent’s house. So the only picture I could find was on the Ferrari website and it was huge. I brought it to Audrey’s and they assured me that they would be able to do it and sure enough they were. He was so excited when I brought the cake out. It looked exactly like the car he wants. I was so happy. And it tasted absolutely delicious. All the groomsmen loved it!

Our wedding cake was also amazing. I went back and forth with Thomas so many times. I kept changing my mind of what I wanted. Finally we decided on a simple pearl dot with a square base and three rounds. The filling was one layer of fresh raspberry and one layer of buttercream. We got a sample cake about 2 months before the wedding and it was good but it was nothing compared to how delicious our cake was the day of the wedding. It was incredible. Most likely the best cake we both have ever had and that is a bold statement because we both absolutely love cake and cookies!! Not to mention that Thomas is one of the nicest people I have ever met and so passionate about what he does.

Rabbi- Rabbi Accrish 10+++++++/10
We used my husband rabbi from growing up. He is from his temple up in Westchester. He preformed at great ceremony. It was quick but very meaningful and sincere. He showed up very early and so fun to be around. I am so glad that we had him marry us!

Flowerfield 11/10
Perfect. It was like a fairy tale. The moment we both walked we knew this was the place. Both me and my husband got really bummed out because we researched so many places online and made a list of places we wanted to see and after traveling all of long and Westchester with my parents our last stop was Flowerfield. We were a little upset when she told us there minimums since we were only able to guarantee 125 people so we automatically knew that Saturday night was out of the question. But in the end that was a blessing because we decided on a Sunday because Saturday day was also out because we had a Jewish wedding. We were very happy with a day wedding at Flowerfield because everyone really got to enjoy the beautiful flowers, hence flowerfield and our pictures our breathtaking because the sun was so shining so bright. We were also a little nervous that the room would feel empty and it definitely did not and the dance floor was completely packed and we only had 131 people. So even if you are having a smaller wedding do not automatically assume you will not be able to have it at Flowerfield. Meaghan was our Banquet manager and she was so much fun to work with. I must have called her a million times to ask her questions about vendors and other random things and she was always so great and bubblely. She was so great when we came to drop off stuff and every time we came to look around she was so much fun. The day of the wedding she even wore a pink sweater because she knew how obsessed my husband and I were with everything being pink. She seriously was our like one of our friends!
The day of Andy was our Maitre D and he was awesome and so organized. He kept everything running so smoothly. Danielle was our bridal attendant and she really helped us out a lot when we got there. She pressed my gown and the rabbi’s robe. She helped me to the bathroom. She brought us tons of food and drinks after the ceremony when my new husband and I wanted to be alone for a little while.
The food was out of this world and there were tons of it. My friends and family constantly talk about the food. We will be in the clinic and our friends will be telling patients about our wedding still a month and a half later. The wait staff was great. We were wondering why no one was up at the bar yet all our friends still seemed so drunk and when we asked them they said because the wait staff was so great they never had to get up the drinks were all brought to them. Everything about flowerfield is so great. You really can’t go wrong with them. You will not be disappointed!!

Atlantis Limo- 7/10
My brother in law booked us a car to get to the hotel the night of the wedding to come to my parents house at 11:00 pm. At 11:00 the driver called to find out directions. He was close but still he was late and at that time we just wanted to get to the hotel. The driver was very nice. We just felt he should have figured out the directions before he left.

Hotel night of wedding-Holiday Inn at JFK airport 10/10
Our room was clean. We got to the hotel at about 12:30 am and checked out at about 4:30 am so we really were not there too long. But it served its purpose and it was a good price and a nice hotel.

Honeymoon to Aruba- Liberty Travel in Buffalo 9/10
No complaints. Our travel agent was fine but it is Buffalo so people are just different. But our travel agent was good. She really went over all our options. We always knew we wanted to go to Aruba for our honeymoon it was just deciding where and finding the best flights since we knew we could only go for exactly one week since we had to be up for our final year of school. She really helped us figure out what we were looking for.

Radisson Aruba- 10+/10
We had an ocean view room. It was breathtaking. The staff was so friendly. The hotel was so clean and neat. The rooms were great and spacious. We loved the marble bathrooms. The food was great. Everything about our honeymoon was perfect from the flights to the hotel to all the restaurants we went to and the excursions we did. Our favorite excursion by far was when we went ATVing. We had a double ATV. My husband drove. Our tour guides were awesome. We were going so fast and go to see everything. If you go to Aruba you have to do this just make sure to wear sunglasses because a lot of dirt blows up at you and be prepared to get really dirty!!
