My June, Friday the 13th Wedding review (long)
We got back from our honeymoon last Friday night but I've been trying to get myself together so, finally, here is my review...Well, woke up super early (grrr - I didn't need to) and heard the sound of rain. I was very sad because we were doing pictures before hand and we had planned on doing them at the beach, but obviously that didn't happen. But, to my surprise, much as everyone on here has said not to worry, rain won't spoil your day, it really didn't. The rain did stop later (though it was still a bit drizzly and misty) during the reception so we got to take some outside pictures, but, still would have liked the beach shots.
Hair - Monie at Loni's Place in Hicksville (It's a tiny little salon and I have used her since I was about 10) - A+++ I was a little worried at first because I wasn't too happy after my trial, but she did an awesome job. She did myself and my two MOH' s and she came in early - 8:00 to get us done. My one MOH is very picky about her hair and a part of me was sure she would end up going home and washing it out (she apparently did that for her brothers wedding), but she loved her hair. And we were done by no later than 10:00 I think.
Makeup - Jennifer Fairytale Makeovers - A+++ - Jennifer was awesome to work with as everyone who has used her has already said. She was so sweet and made us all feel comfortable (even, again, my one MOH was so pleased - at first she didn't want makeup done, but then had changed her mind and was so happy she did. ) We all felt beautiful without feeling cakey
Limos - Avanti - A+ - they were early and patient and really nice, though I kind of wish I had had the limo driver who picked up my husband (sounds so weird! ) because my driver, although pleasant, wasn't all that helpful. After we did the pictures at the Marriott, DH and I went to the reception all in separate limos (me with the MOH's and he with his best men) and as I was getting into the limo and my driver wasn’t doing much. The other driver came over and was trying to help me get in and my DH said that the driver had been giving he and the BM tips on how to keep from getting too wrinkled and other stuff.
Flowers – Ken & Eva’s – A+++ - probably would have been even better if, a couple of weeks before the wedding, they hadn’t called me to say they couldn’t get me the lilacs they had promised me. But, a few days after that, they called me to say that they were flying them in from Holland for me. So, when they dropped off the bouquets and boutonnières, I was SO HAPPY!!! They were absolutely beautiful!! And, I had never seen a sample of what the centerpieces would look like, but when I did I was so excited. Everything looked wonderful.

Re: My June, Friday the 13th Wedding review (long)
continued...DJ – Party Pros - A- - Well, I will have to say that the dance floor was packed all night. Which, is good, but, just like Thusmuf said in her review – the guy didn’t play most of the songs we put on the list that HE requested from us. We didn’t have that many there, but still… We also had asked about the dinner music because we wanted to have him play some Celtic stuff. Well, he had told us that they basically put on an easy listening CD and then just let it play for about 45 minutes while they take a break. So, we said we’d make a CD for him to use and he said that was great – we even gave it to him THAT DAY, and he didn’t use it. But again, it was ok because people were dancing to stuff so, we figured whatever. The only other thing was that aside from our first and second dance, our parent dances and one other, there were NO slow songs. I had wanted to ask my uncle to dance and my brother, but there really wasn’t an opportunity. So, I was sad about that.
Photographer – Verdi – A+++ - We had had the package deal with the Brentwood Country Club but, about 2 months before the wedding, I found out (through someone on here – not even the BCC - thanks Ellie) that they had changed photographers. After visiting with the new ones, we just were not happy so we ended up looking at Verdi because I had seen a lot of people here had used them, and one of my friends used them in March and I thought her pictures were amazing. Well, Mindi and Rich were great, scheduled an appointment in with us on a Saturday even though they had a wedding later that day, because she knew how far out on the island we are and how hard it would be to do during the week, and they even worked with us because it was so close to our date (note we didn’t do this till about 1 month before). They were so nice and made everyone feel comfortable, and from what I’ve seen of the pictures they put online, I am sooo pleased. We can’t wait to see the proofs.
Caterer – Brentwood Country Club – A+ - Basically, just about everything was wonderful here. The place looked beautiful, they were so nice to work with throughout the whole process, the food was amazing (yes, I even ate at my own wedding.) Everyone has been telling us how great the food was and how wonderful the place was. My bridal attendant was so sweet and our Matre di was so helpful. The only things that bothered me – though more after it was over and I had time to think about it – was first, the bar situation. It actually wasn’t a big problem but, when we had talked to them at one point we had been a little concerned that with only one bar and what we had planned on being around 175 people, it just wouldn’t be enough. Well, they told us no problem that they could put up another bar. They never did. We ended up with only around 140 so it wasn’t a big deal, but people did say that at one point, there was a little bit of a line during the cocktail hour.
The other thing that now REALLY bothers me is the cake. When we went to pick our cake, we looked at their book and really didn’t like the ones they showed. So, we asked if we could have something else. The guy looked a little worried but said it was ok depending on what we did want. Well, we brought him a picture – what we wanted was a VERY simple stacked cake (I really didn’t want the pedestal separations). The only decoration were these little dots (actually, it was a cake that someone posted on here). Just little raised bumps in sets of three. He said “No problem”. Said he’s give it to the baker and no problem. Well, the cake they gave us was completely flat white on the pedestals. My bridal attendant came in asking me if I wanted flowers put on it because it looked very plain – I hadn’t seen it so I said no, then my photographer came in to ask me and after realizing the cake wasn’t what we asked for, I said ok and it ended up looking really nice, but still annoying that it wasn’t what we wanted.
All in all our day was wonderful. We had so much fun but it went WAY too fast!! Here are a couple pictures.

Congratulations! Everything looked lovely. You too looked so happy. I had rain (lots of it) on my wedding day too and we were supposed to have an outdoor ceremony - so I understand your comment regarding the rain not ruining your day.
