My March 27, 2011 review - Watermill Caterers, Stacy Marie Photography, GT, Absolute EntertainmentOk so I am FINALLY writing my review.
I will start by saying thanks to Ron, Kim, and the whole LIWeddings family. Although I only joined in January and was married by March I got a lot of ideas and a lot of input from past and future brides to be to help me plan my wedding in 8 weeks. Even more than that I have made some amazing friends (Maria, Kristen, Jessica, Nikki and Angela you girls are amazing) (also Adelina I loved being hall twins and being able to help answer each other’s questions)
So yes I had a surprise wedding ? DH and I had discussed this years ago bc he doesn’t like to be center of attention and he also didn’t want to spend money on a wedding….so being a genius (lol) I came up with the idea ofd a surprise wedding. We made our guests believe it was an engagement party and about an hour in I did a wardrobe change into my wedding dress and came out and had my brother give me away. As I came out everyone applauded some cried some were in total shock and some felt something fishy was going on. Needless to say no matter what at the end of the day I married my best friend and will live happily ever after.
So here goes:
Proposal…C (lol) my own fault bc I honestly made it super difficult for him that day. It was Christmas Eve and he was going to do Christmas shopping. I asked him to pick one more thing up for my niece and when he got home it was not what I asked so I was aggravated. He asked me to go out to lunch and I said No bc now I had to goo brave the crazy crowds to go fix his mess up and I would then have to come home and wrap and we had to be at families by 6. Well we left the families at 9 bc we had to go home to feed our new puppy as we leave he says lets go hunt for xmas lights. My response was “ummm no we have to get home to the puppy “ then we get home to feed and play with the puppy and change into jammies then proceed to get into a disagreement whether or not we should do gifts then or wait until Christmas day, plus he wasn’t happy I was making him take a pic with me and the puppy in front of the tree. Well we take the pic, crate the puppy and get settled to start opening gifts when he sits on the floor by the table and snotty me says “what are you doing” so he proceeds to take the ring out and say “um I don’t know how to do this” romantic right??? He then proceeded to say he has been trying all day and he had a whole plan and I am super difficult so he asked, I said yes (and apologized) and then called my mom (who was waiting patiently by her phone bc she knew) then my sis who told her daughters and the oldest one (my god daughter) says “aunt mimi your birthday wish came true” bc on my birthday the august before I blew out my candles with her help and whispered my wish in her ear. After she said that I cried like a baby and the rest is history
I couldn’t have found a better man if I tried. wHo would have thought a random night at a bar a boy would walk through the door and I would say to my friend…”im totally going to make out with that boy tonight” here we are almost 7 years later and I am calling him my husband!
Rings – Jared – A+
He went to Jared!!!! Lol We dealt with Mike and he was amazing. I recommend him highly!
Dress – David’s Bridal –A+ -
my consultant was Gail and was an absolute godsend!!! I told her the dress I loved, she pulled the dress and pulled 3 other ones too. She made me try on the other 3 first and put me in my dress last. When I put my dress on I came out and mom and my sister started crying. I looked in the mirror and cried too. It was definitely the one and it fit my absolutely perfectly! I looked over at Gail and she was crying too! I bought my ydress, veil, headpiece, bra and slip that day, talk about one stop shopping!
MOH Dress - Davids Bridal – A-
I told my MOH go pick out a cute black dress and that she did. The dress was perfect, I loved it and so did she. She had an issue when it came time to pay bc they wouldn’t honor the $20 off being I bought my dress there. They said bc the dress was discounted, but she paid full price not discounted ao she spoke to a few people and they fixed it
MOB dress o Dress Barn A+
My mom looked gorgeous!
DH suit – Van Heusen – A+
I got DH’s entire outfit and he looked super handsome. Best thing was that everything was on sale and I used a coupon!!!
Alterations – David’s Bridal – C
the man who did my alterations was in a super rush and really didn’t care at all. When I went for my final fitting I seen he had sewn the dress in a weird spot to hem it. It looked terrible and the lady who was there told me that’s the way it came…OH NO IT DIDN’T!!! So oshe got a seam ripper and took out the part he sewed but my hem wasn’t right and I noticed it way more once I seen the video. Oh well it is what it is right? I loved my bustle!!! (that’s why they didn’t get an F)

Re: My March 27, 2011 review - Watermill CaterersDOJ – Macy’s A+
I wanted a vintage looking bracelet and pearls with some vintage accents. I walked into omacys and they nearly jumped out at me. Plus they were on sale!
Invitations – DIY Michaels A
I wanted something simple and found exactly that and DH liked them too!!! Plus we had coupons!!!
Favors – wedding favors unlimited - A
I got photo coasters that would be the seating card and then double as the frame for the photobooth pictures. I loved them. They went with my black and ivory theme and they came out so cute!
Zazzle – stickers for the favors - A
Great to work with and the stickers were a cute touch
Wedding channel – B
I got the personalized napkins and the table throw away cameras for the photo scavenger hunt (see DIY below) They took a lot of time to ship and I was a little nervous. But they finally came and everything came out great.
Card box – Mom DIY A+++++
I gave her a picture of a card box I had liked and she replicated it and did an amazing job.
Cake topper – Miami Art Expressions C
I found this vendor on ebay and I looked at their reviews and feedback and their other work and it was awesone. I was told I would get pictures of the topper before it was shipped. I know that I had a little window of time before the wedding but before I ordered anything I would e-mail vendors and ask if there would be any problems? Could it be done and it was no different with this vendor. She assured me that the topper would be done the week before the wedding the latest. Well it was done and she sent me the picture of the topper with the tracking number so she mailed it before my feedback. Lets just say DH looked like a fat bald 50 year old man, none of which he is. And me well I looked almost obscenely voluptuous. I e-mailed her right away and told her I was extremely unhappy and she said she didn’t know what she should do. I asked her to at least make a new head for the DH part of the topper and I will figure it out. I told her his face is long and thin and he has sideburns and hazel eyes, none of which she captured. She sent a new head which came the Saturday before the wedding. DH did “surgery” on his part of the cake topper and switched heads. It looked ok but I wish it was done correctly the first time and didn’t have to give me anxiety days before the wedding
The old head RIP
Fingerprint tree – My Talented Cousin A+++
If you ask you shall receive! My cousin is an artist so after I had seen this idea on this website I knew I wanted it but did not want what the etsy sellers wanted me to pay for it. So I asked my cousin and she of course was so happy to do it! I gave her a picture and she added her own flair. It was perfect and I got so many compliments! Sadly I don’t have a picture ?
DIY – A++++++ of course
I did the memorial pins myself, my invites, my table numbers, my scavenger hunt cameras, decorated the favors/placecards, my thank you sign (with help from my little brother - -shout out to sign design!)and probably a few other things I just cannot remember right now.
Personalized Hanger – dawnscraftstore – etsy – A+
This was one of my favorite things, thank you LIW for introducing me to it. I have now bought 2 more for future brides and plan on it being my signature gift at bridal showers!!!
Channa plaque – my sweet memories – A+
This woman is amazing! She nailed it on the first submission! I was placed on the mantle of the fireplace above where we were seated and it looked gorgeous!!! This is another item I will be buying as gifts for future brides
Wrap with us in Syoasset – best man and father of the groom socks A.
This place is chaotic but they had what I wanted so I was happy!!!
Personalized creations A+ -
I bought personalized frames for each parent with our names and wedding date on it, they all loved it!
Gifts for MOH
MOH & MOB Sweatshirt – East End Screen Printing
I bought the sweatshirts at old navy for 10 bucks each and had Bruce embroider them
DOJ for MOH - -Kohls A+ I loved it and so did she!

Re: My March 27, 2011 review - Watermill CaterersHair – Liz from Strandz A+++
Liz has been doing my hair for years so she knows exactly what I like! We did two trials and the day of I went a whole different direction. She nailed it! I loved my hair and it held for most of the night. The back of my dress was all sequins and lace so the hair that fell on it became one big knot! Lets just say it wasn’t fun trying to get that out! But I loved my hair and I still continue going to Liz ?
Makeup - -Make up by Meadow – A+++
I gave the task of finding a make up artist to my sister. My sister in law used Meadow to do her makeup for her wedding in 2008 and she looked gorgeous so my sister called her and got a quote and although she wasn’t the cheapest quote we received she was one of the only ones who was pleasant to deal with, she got back to us right away she booked our trial and to top it all off she was ridiculously sweet! I just loved everything about her so we booked her! She travelled to me the day of and my make up was incredible! I was obsessed with my eyelashes! My makeup stayed on the whole night, I only reapplied lip gloss once. I would recommend her to everyone!!!
Flowers – Floyd Harbor Florist A++++++++
INoreen (the owner) was amazing to work with. I went to her shop bc I grew up in Shirley and I would always go there to get special occasion flowers. I had called around and met with other florists and got quotes and they were all ridiculous and no one would help me execute my vision on a budget. So I went to my hometown florist and sure enough Noreen understood exactly what I wanted. I sat with my mom and told her a price point I wanted to be in and when Noreen came back with the quote for everything I wanted it was way under what I wanted to pay so I booked her on the spot! Friends and family still rarve about my bouquet and my centerpieces. Noreen made me feel like one of the family. I would recommend all girls go to their hometown florist and see what they can do for you. Shopping local may work in your favor!!!
DJ- Absolute Entertainment A
I had Nick as my DJ, Chris as my MC and Bruce as my Light tech. They did a great job. They played all the songs on my “must play” list. They found my entrance song even though it was super random. The gobo was gorgeous and my little nieces enjoyed following it around the dance floor all night. These guys were super sweet and I would definitely recommend them to future brides.
Photobooth – Ovation photobooth – A
Ronnie as very easy to work with everything was done through phone and email and worked out great. The photobooth was def a highlight at the wedding. Everyone LOVED it. So much that at one point it had to cool down for a few minutes. It was up and running within 10 minutes and never had a lull the entire night. The scrap book came out awesome DH and I read it after the wedding and laughed!!! The only reasons I didn’t give this company more than an A was bc one of the attendants girlfriends was there with him during the cocktail hour in jeans, the CD that I got with all the images was “corrupted” so I only got about ½ the pics on it (I never even called the company to tell them bc in the grand scheme of things it wasn’t that big of a deal) and lastly the booth was a tad bit small. But like I said everyone loved it and so did I
Videographer – GT Modern Creations A++++++++++ (infinity)
By far one of my favorite vendors of the day! Two weeks before my wedding I decided I needed video even though I was dead set against it all the days preceding. I e-mailed Gabriel he got right back to me and I mailed him out a check. I spoke to Gabriel a few days before the wedding to discuss the day of events and give him directions to my house. I met him and Caritza the morning of my wedding and honestly I felt as if I had known them forever. I never felt that they were in my way and I never got anxious that they were always in my face “watching” me. They were amazing!!! 3 weeks after my wedding I received the highlight trailer and I was at that point obsessed! I fell in love with it, I cried! (which I hardly did the day of the wedding, lol) I sent it to everyone!!! I just recently got my final edit and it was better than I could have ever dreamed! (even their presentation was amazing…which I will keep to myself for fear of ruining it for future brides using them!) There were so many moments they captured that I wouldn’t have ever seen otherwise. For this I am eternally grateful and to Gabriel and Caritza GT Modern Creations, keep up the great work!!!
ETA: I received my video and it was better than I dreamed!!! Precious moments between DH and I and just things I didnt even know happened..for example a friend of DH's family literally broke it down on the edge of the dance floor...I am guessing he didnt think anyone seen him...I nearly fell off the couch when I watched it. To anyone on the fence about a video, I say GET IT and call GT Modern Creations!!!

Re: My March 27, 2011 review - Watermill CaterersPhotographer - -StacyMarie Photography – A++++++++++++++++++++++++++ (infinity times 10)
So what I may be partial, she is my best friend and has been taking beautiful pictures for years, of course I wanted her to capture my day. I ran it by her first bc I wanted her to enjoy the day but she assured me she would be my photog AND enjoy the day. She did a great job with our E-pics and I loved my proofs. I cant wait to do my TTD with her!!! StacyMarie I love u girl and wish nothing but success
For March 27th, it was unusually warm. Mid 60s and sunny and NO SNOW!!! (which was my biggest fear) I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day( I may have had a few people up there pulling some strings)
Grooms Cake – Cakes Couture and More A+
My husband LOVED his cheeseburger cake with a side of pound cake French fries!!! Jill did an amazing job!
Officiant – Judge Caren Loguercio A
She is a friend of my bosses and she just became a Judge so Sean and I were her first wedding ever. I will chalk up and glitches to nerves bc in the end she had the authority from the state of NY to pronounce us husband and wife and she did and that my friends is all that matters!!!
Venue – Watermill Caterers – overall B
When I went to the watermill for a showcase I fell in love…with the food, with the décor with everything. It just felt right. DH and I looked at 8 halls total. And with a date that was fast approaching we had to pick one right away. I brought him to the Watermill and they literally went above and beyond to get us to book with them. Reality was (as with the other vendors) that no other bride was going to walk in and book a vendor 6-8 before the wedding so either you woo us with your charm or you have nothing that day….Watermill charmed us. They threw in a lot of items. And they even lowered the minimum for the big room since it was not going to be in use. I had Bob as my BM he was great in the beginning answering my questions and hearing out my concerns. But as the weeks got closer to the wedding I felt I had a hard time communicating with him. Almost as if I was annoying him. Then the 2 times I went in before the wedding I was sat with two different BM’s who didn’t know me from a hole in the wall and honestly it bothered me. I wanted to make sure everything was executed properly and I felt the BM’s I spoke to had no clue about MY day and all my items that I dropped off. Lets just say I was a bit panicked and super uncomfortable! In all honesty and in fairness to the venue I didn’t voice this concern. The day of comes and I am introduced to Jess my bridal attendant and Richie my maitre d. They were very nice and said whatever I need just ask. First thing was I asked for black napkins and their were ivory ones on the table. Richie had this fixed right away! I went into the room when it was all finished and I was taken back. It was better than I could have dreamed it, with all the tables set up and the uplighting and the fireplace lit and all the candles the room just glowed! You seemed to forget you were in the basement, lol…This was the point I called my soon to be husband and cried for the first time that day. I told him my fairytale was coming true! There were little things throughout the day that irked me but I couldn’t let it get the best of me bc seriously it was my wedding day….i was on cloud 9….soo here were my issues…There was no food in the bridal suite and there was only a large bottle of water…eh whatever I lived but looking back I would have probably been able to eat at least a little that day. RIchie and Jess kept me on schedule and Jess helped me with my bustle and my slip. But once the party got started, I had a hard time finding them when I needed them (which would only be for a drink and to get into my bridal suite) at one point the “captain” let me into the suite (I will get into that later) The night ran smoothly and honestly went super fast. Jess made me 3 plates of food but guests kept coming up to the head table so I hardly ate it. I wish I would have asked for some food to be wrapped up for us so I wasn’t starving when I got back to the hotel. Oh well hind sight is 20/20. By the end of the night I was able to enjoy myself and let go and dance a bit. When the night was over the staff took all my personal belongings and packed everything up for us. They helped take it out to the cars and pack them up. While I was in the bridal suite the “captain” came in and hugged me goodbye and congratulated me (all I am thinking is that this kid is looking for his tip, am I supposed to tip him?) so I asked the BA and she says yes. I am mortified!!! I was never aware of a “captain” my brother gave me some cash and I put it in an envelope and had dh give it to him. I wish I didn’t have to deal with that though. So for any advice that I can give about this venue I will say this. It is gorgeous! The food is delicious! The cake was delicious (top tier is frozen I will tell you in a year how it tastes then, lol) The staff is sweet and willing to help, Just keep extra tip envelopes for anyone you may not have been told about. Keep a running list for yourself of the things that were promised. Ask to only deal with one BM, once others are involved it starts to get crazy Adelz will vouch for this as well) and remember what the day is really about. Honestly I have and will recommend the watermill (with a few disclosures)
Wedding night Hotel – islandia Marriot A+++++
My mom got this for us since we weren’t going on a honeymoon, Yay Mom!!! We had a corner suite and it was so nice. The bed was super comfy and Dominos delivered there!!! We were starving and needed food so we ordered domino and rented Jacka$$ 3 on the tv. It was perfect!
My advice for future brides: remember its one day. Remember what it’s all about. Take one minute to look around and take it all in. EAT!!! DANCE!!! And finally live happily ever after! We all deserve the fairytale!
I know it this review was long but I hope it was informative. FM me with any questions you have or if you want any contact info or any of my vendors.
