My OH SO FANTASTIC and UNFORGETTABLE wedding day thanks to many LI vendors: Imagine Studios, Woodbury CC, Eve of Milady, Burtons, High Energy, Rosanna Amador, Michele Gordon Lots of prof pix!!!
Hello ladies, I finally am posting my review
I wanted to thank you for all your inspiring thoughts. Our wedding story was featured in the Jan-March Long Island Bride and Groom magazine- Real weddings and I attribute a lot of that to the ideas I got in this website. Ok here we go...
Two disclaimers:
All the pix are from Imagine Studios (We had almost 1000 which we have in their database, but can't copy. These are the ones that she liked, but I assure you all the pix are just as beautiful as these. Once I get the CD I'll update with more

and
It might look like a long review, but it's because of the many pix I posted. I'm a very visual person, and I think pictures are testimony of anyone's review.
Where do I begin….. Be ready... this might be a long but many pix Well by thanking the creators of this website and a huge thank you to all the brides here. Without your wonderful creative ideas, encouragement and purely entertainment on my slow days at work I wouldn't have pulled the best day of my life. I truly am grateful to all of you?
I want to start by saying that I had my dream wedding but nothing as beautiful as it turned out to be. I started with some ideas and combined with a lot of things that I saw on this website my dream was becoming better and I was becoming a perfectionist. My sister (who is going through her own wedding preparations) keeps telling me the patience I must have had since she gets overwhelmed as soon as she starts looking. For all the brides to be or the ones that just started the planning, this process is a true full time job, but what a fun ride.
Ok enough said here it goes (I apologize for not resizing the pix, I just can't get them smaller and I felt like I spent so much time uploading them:0(:
Pre-wedding:
Engagement pictures - Imagine Studios. A+++++ (is there anything better than A+++?)
Here is my review: http://www.liweddings.com/chat/topic.aspx?ID=341371&Highlight=
Bridal shower Cake
Dortoni Bakery - Levittown (516) 796-3690 .-A+++
We had Dortoni's as our official cake maker for our wedding. So a few days before the shower we went for tasting. I immediately fell in love with the Barbie dressed in a wedding gown dress. Given that it looked similar to my wedding dress I told my fiancé at the time that I wanted that for my shower, plus we could have the same filling as our wedding cake so we could see if we made the right decision. Two days before the shower I ordered it through the phone and it came out beautiful. It was such a big hit, and the cameras wouldn't stop flashing. The cake itself was so tasty and even though I'm not a big dessert person I had to take seconds.
Rehearsal Dinner
CoolFish-Syosset -A++++
My mother in-law organized this so I don't know the details of service, prices etc. My impression of that place was first class. The food was not only very tasteful but also beautifully decorated. The place was very nice and accommodating.
Cake for the Rehearsal dinner
Dortoni Bakery - Levittown (516) 796-3690 A++
Since I had my cake for the bridal shower, I thought it was only fair to have a cake for my fiancé. I completely forgot about it until the day before the rehearsal dinner. Nonetheless I thought I'd try my luck and see if I could still have it. Dortoni's was very accommodating. I told them that I wanted something with the Mets logo since Kurt loves the Mets, or better is nuts about them. I saw the cake for the first time at the rehearsal dinner and he was so happy as well. I have to thank LIwedding brides for the idea as no one had heard of a groom's cake. So thanks to the LI brides for starting a tradition. The cake was a delicious cannoli and raspberry cake. So yummy
Wedding Day (will try to do list the vendors by order of appearance?)
Weather: A
Well I got married on August 25th, which was the hottest day that we had gotten in a while. Given that the whole week it had rained non stop I was thrilled to have the heat. Plus, my whole wedding and my 'dream' evolved around the ceremony which was outside, therefore no rain meant that my plans were going smooth.
Dress:
Eve of Milady ('EOM') A++++
Bridal Reflection in Carle Place A+
516-742-7789
Seamstress:
A: for alteration design,
A-: for not finishing the 'loose ends'
I started looking for dresses since we got engaged last year. First store.. Kleinfelds. I tried so many dresses but didn’t' like how they fit, and obviously I was getting more and more upset and overwhelmed. I'm sure you all will agree that dress shopping tends to get so stressful. After about 10-15 dresses the salesperson brought an Eve of Milady. My mother who was the biggest critic but who I fortunately trust her taste, loved it. The only thing was that Kleinfeld's would not alter the front which I thought was plain for the volume and the beauty of the dress. I was surprised to hear that given the reputation of Kleinfeld. Their reasoning was that they didn't think they would pull it through (and they charge $600 for alterations which I would think they have great seamstress who could do that kind of alteration).
Oh well, given that it was my first store I decided to sleep on it. I did my research on stores that carried EOM dresses and that's how I found Bridal Reflections in Carl Place. My salesperson was Dana who was a sweetheart and very patient. She also was a great help of making sure that they threw a few freebies. They were very helpful and assured me that they could do the alterations I wanted.
I had Lee as my seamstress who was a very nice lady. She agreed with my idea of adding pick-ups in the front and made the style even more beautiful by adding extra pick-ups in the back.
As far as alteration I wouldn't give her an A because it appeared that she didn't do the alterations of my 3rd fitting: 1)the hook on top of my zipper which had fell off on my 2nd trial was not fixed. 2) I also don't know whether she made the alterations that she promised to do on my 2nd trial such as shortening the tulle (don't remember what it's called) inside of my dress 3) tighten my bustier. If she did tighten it than I must have lost a lot of weight b/c the dress was very loose on top and created a gap, which was stressing me out on the day of the wedding. The dress was also long and I had to hold it as I was walking down the isle which didn't look as the dress was meant to look. You will see that instead of my holding my father's arm he is holding mine b/c both of my hands were busy (one holding the dress one holding the flowers). I ended up cutting an underlayer of the dress during the reception as I almost tripped a few times b/c it was long.
My advise to avoid my mishaps: Do try the dress on the day of the pick up before they steam it!!!! I didn't as I was in a rush and stressed out about it during the wedding.
Overall: The dress was beautiful and I absolutely love it. It turned out much much better than the original design by EOM.
Bridesmaids dresses:
RK Bridal (Bari Jay) - A
Three of my bridesmaids got their dresses from this store. They were very prompt and always professional. None of the girls did their alterations here so not too much further to say.

I needed v. high heeled shoes that were stylish. I thought they were beautiful
MOB dress:

I liked the service and loooved the dress. She looked so beautiful in it.
Flower girl dress:

We walked in the store, picked the dress out. I loved the dress and they store was very helpful.
Tuxedos:
Men's warehouse: A
Staten Island Men's warehouse: D
No problems here with the groom and the groomsmen, with the exception of my dad's tux which we ended up buying. It was brough defective and we were fighting with them that they didn't check teh tux prior to calling us. It was too late to reorder so my dad ended up buying a tux.
Hair
Roseanna Amador - Cosmo NY
917-548-3944 or 631-664-3004 www.cosmony.com
If there was one thing that stressed me out tremendously during pre-wedding was my hair style. Looking at my engagement pictures you will see that I have curly hair. I keep my hair down 90% of the time, therefore people are used to a certain volume and certain hairstyle with me. I had 4 hair trials. One of them with Claudia Pedala who although is talented was a huge disappointment on her integrity and professionalism. You can FM me for details.
So as my wedding day was approaching (1 month and a half) prior to the day I set up an appointment with Roseanna. I had a melt-down a week prior as I was coming out of trials not happy and I hate to settle. So I was hoping that Roseanna would be it since on top of being dissatisfied I spent quite a lot of money. Well, Roseanna was such a sweetheart. I loved her laidback personality on the day of the trial. She looked at all the other hair trials and assessed what other people were not doing right. I also loved the hair extensions she offered and I purchased them. I booked her on the spot needless to say.
Day of wedding:
One huge factor to keep in mind is that I had pictures before the wedding, starting at 1:30PM to be precise and ending at 4PM . My ceremony would start at 6:30PM. I was very stressed due to the humidity Therefore being that I have curly hair I could picture freezy hair after a couple of hours taking pictures.
Hair other than mine: A++++ She came 1/2 hour earlier (7.30AM) to start with my sister, my mother and my flower girl before she did my hair. She nailed each and everyone of them. I was very afraid on my sister and my mother's hair as they've never had updo-s, so they both took a leap of faith. Well needless to say they both looked so beautiful and I was in awe when I saw them.
My Hair A+++++++ She did such a beautiful job on my hair. After she finished my hair in the morning we decided that if my hair didn't hold up after we took the pictures at the Vanderbilt museum she would come back to Woodbury CC after and redo my hair. Fast fwd at around 3PM at Vanderbilt my hair sure enough was very freezy due to the unusual heat. When we got back from the Vanderbilt the first person I see at Woodbury CC was Roseanna with her tools. She retouched my hair (for an extra cost of course) and did them even better. I felt so much better and ready to walk down the aisle. Needless to say I got a lot of compliments about them since no one had seen me with that hair style and the fullness and length of my hair. I loved it too!!! That woman did a miracle given my hair type. What a stress reliever she was. Fantastic job!!!
My Mom's hair
My sister's hair
My bridesmaids:
Hair Genie: A+++
With the exception of my sister and the girl with the half do in the back all of the girls were done by Jenn from Hair Genie. She was very professional and I loved the results. She also did my mother in-laws hair. HIghly recommend Jenn.
Make-up

Pre-wedding A-
Wedding Day:
Make-up on my sister B
Make-up on my mother A
Make-up on me A+++
I found her through another vendor who happened to be booked on my wedding day. Tiff was a great girl and happened to be Rihanna's cousin (a perk since she has done her make-up and I love Rihanna's look). She nailed the make-up trial as it was exactly how I wanted. She was a little hard to get in touch with through e-mail though she would say that she was checking her e-mails but never got back to me. Either way, I freaked out a week before the wedding as her phone was 'temporarily' out of service and I thought I had lost her. On the wedding day she showed up a little later than I told her which led to me being late for the photo shoot.
My main complain though is that she promised she was going to bring the air-brush tools but when she showed up at the hotel she said she couldn't get them. I have no idea why, however, I thought it was because she might have forgotten or thought of it at the last minute. That really upset me because I had done quite a few trials and air-brush was the only way my foundation didn't look cakey and stayed even.
She started with my sister, which wasn't too happy with her foundation application and the choice of eyeshadow color. I thought my sister looked good but she didn't like it. She also did my mother which turned out great. I felt bad for my mom because I think she might have rushed a little bit on her since I was getting late and I was after my mother. I wish she could have put some blush on her cheeks to give her more color. Anyways it looked good.
She started doing my make-up late which put me in a rush state of mind and that was the last thing I wanted to do. She did a beautiful job, however, it wasn't too long that my foundation wasn't as floweless as I had experienced with the air-brush application. (It could have been from the heat as well)
Overall, she did a beautiful job on me and the make up stayed the whole day (over 13 hours!!!). Definitely recommend Tiffany.

Service-A+
Fleet - B+ (Hummer A++, Rolls Royce: C-)
Ok, so everyone knows about Joe and how great he is. He was a really nice person indeed and worked with us to accommodate our schedule. We rented a Hummer a (one-way) Black Limo and (one-way) Rolls Royce-Princess edition. All the drivers showed up on time which was great.
My only gripe and negative comment is on the Rolls Royce. I'm not joking when I tell you that the driver's door didn't close. So the entire time he was holding it shut with one hand and with the other he was driving. The air conditioner might as well have been off b/c we had the windows open since it didn't generate air ventilation at all. With the heat over 100 degrees, we used the Rolls to take us from the Vanderbilt museum (where we took 3+ hrs pictures) to the Woodbury CC. Also, there was no water in the car which made me even crankier. So, make sure you check the cars before you rent them. I was pretty upset that I paid so much money on the Rolls when I wished I was in the Hummer.
But it definitely makes a funny story to tell to other people.
Flowers
Burtons A++++++
Melville NY (631) 424-3377 www.flowersbyburtons.com
I dealt with Jill and Mike. Great people and very helpful. In fact Jill prepared two sample centrepieces and a bouquet for me and bridesmaids. I have gotten soooo many compliments about my flowers. I loved dark red and they truly understood my vision. My bouquet and my girls bouquet's came on time before the pictures and lasted till the end (over 12 hours!!!). I cannot describe the my feelings when I saw the ceremony site and how it was decorated. It was better than what I thought of and they had not missed a detail. Also, my reception room was absolutely beautiful. It looked so dramatic and rich that even people that worked in the hall mentioned it to me a few times. So you should have no worries. They do a beautiful job and their customer service is great.
Flower jewelery and Aisle Runner
Laurie (LA Blossom) A++++
Laurie was a wonderful person to work with. I initially contacted her about the aisle runner. She was very prompt. I asked her if she knew of any flower jewels vendors and she suggested Bouquet Jewelers. I bought my bouquet monograms through her since she gets a discount.
The Aisle runner was beautiful and looked great with the petals. She went above and beyond to accommodate me when I had to pick up things. A real sweet lady. (See pix of my flowers for the jewellery)

String quartet:

Ceremony and cocktail hour
I would have given these guys an A++ because they played beautiful music. So beautiful it gave me chills when I heard the flute before I started to walk out with my father. It was very emotional and I just love string music. However, you know how you have some crazy visions when you are planning a wedding. Well, originally I booked a trio (two violins and a flute) for ceremony and cocktail hour. I always wanted a trumpet to play the (gosh sorry but I can't find the word for this), but it is the music it is played when someone enters the ball room and announces the guest. They play it at each Romantic era movie balls. Anyways, I hired the trumpeter solely for that reason (what is that about 10 seconds the most), so I was willing to pay him (mind you trumpeters charge more than the other musicians) just for that (of course he played the whole ceremony hour), but nonetheless it was just for that. Sure enough he plays it when the flower girl starts walking. Ok, no problem I'm thinking he will replay it again as he probably made a mistake. Not at all. I was so very disappointed. I hope you understand, but I didn't need him for music as the trio would have been sufficient. I just wanted him for that moment.
Also, I was a little disappointed with the way how the director of this ensemble was dressed. All her musicians were in tuxes and she had worn a shirt that did not fit with the dress code that everyone else had. Perhaps one color outfit would have been better. But, she played great music so I guess that matters.

Pre-wedding A+++
Wedding Day A+++
Post-wedding A++
I went to about 10 reception halls before I found Woodbury. Went to Westchester, Long Island, looked in Jersey. I wasn't finding the right setting. I wanted gardens with some water and wanted the place secluded where one couldn't hear the noise of the main road. I went to Woodbury and it was just perfect. So calming and so well kept. My manager pre-wedding was Bob who also helped out during the wedding, though he was the BM for another wedding on that day. I assume they do that so they can all have a piece of the pie (our $$$). He always answered my calls and truly helped me out prior to the wedding. Day of the wedding we had John as our BM. Very nice old guy. I loved the way how my reception room looked and all my details where in place (though a lot of it is attributed to my DOC). The food was amazing. Very abundant, and delicious. I wish I would have had more appetite. I didn't touch any desserts as I was stressed out and when I look at our Viennese table pictures I just want everything in there. We got a million compliments on Woodbury and how great the food was. They truly take care of you. The gardens are absolutely amazing.

Vanderbilt Museum A+++

I did research on places where we could take pictures pre wedding. I value photography so I wanted to give my photographer the right settings to be creative. I went to see Vanderbilt and was truly beautiful. It matched with the whole garden, Spanish looking old buildings, and some water that I was striving for. It is not too expensive to rent out. I love the place and am so glad I have beautiful shots from there.
IMAGINE STUDIOS:
Beyond A+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
What a fantastic couple Lia and Nelson are!!! I want to thank missingthebgene bride on LIW as I got inspired by her pictures and checked them out. They were the first vendors (post reception hall) that I looked at and booked on the spot. We had an engagement session with them last October: See Link
Day of the wedding: A+++++++
She came a little before 12PM and started taking pictures of the details. She was there with Nelson (who is such a great guy too), and her assistant. We then went to Vanderbilt Museum for pictures. Can I tell you that I am amazed how that woman is so strong. I thought I was passing out due to the heat and the long photo shoot (almost 3 hrs). She made all my bridal party feel great and she is such a picture motivator. My husband loved her and he usually nags about photography, but he trusted her after the engagement photo shoot and was very comfortable to take in the endless picture taking. I was speechless when I got the pictures. I think their work speaks for themselves so I will let you check out some of them. I had a hard time picking out the best. Truly beautiful couple. Can't wait for the edited version of the video from Nelson!!
A few other artistic pix (lots of smooching pictures:
DJ: A+++
DJ High Energy
MC: Brian
(Unfortunately I don't have pix that I can copy currently of the dance floor, but will update once I get the CD of pix from Imagine Studios so I can be fair b/c we truly partied like there was no tomorrow!!!)
Since we had a band (ethnic band) we didn't want to go overboard with the DJ. We wanted someone that could play great music, get our guests going on the floor and introduce the bridal party without any mistakes. High Energy with Brian as MC was that and above. They did a great job and played great music. Since we had a band I had to write down the times when the band and the DJ would play. Of course it didn't go that way but it went the transitioning between the band and the DJ was so smooth that I felt great at the end.
They also took care of the photo montage, which turned out to be a hit especially with my husband's family since his father has passed away. It brought tears to his aunts and cousins, and it was a nice touch to include pictures with most of our guests in there.
Band:
Alba Orchestra
Singer: Aurela Gace
THough not known from the LI community, the band was Albanian and they are renown musicians in Albania. The singer has won multiple awards (equivalent of Grammy's in Albania). I am grateful to her for making the reception a true hit. People wont' stop talking about how entertaining she was and the voice she has. My American guests were overwhelmed by her talent. Truly made my wedding beautiful and unique.
We also changed into Albanian costumes as a suprise to our guests. THis is not an Albanian tradition but it was something I decided the last days before the wedding. I'm so glad we did it, as my hubby stole my thunder and won a lot of browny points
We created beautiful memories
DOC: A+++
Michelle Gordon
www.thedefiningmoments.com
Ok, I was against getting a DOC for the simple reason that I knew exactly what I wanted and accomplished it by myself. However, a week before the wedding as I'm stressing out like crazy because I didn't know who to trust to make sure all my details (petal cones, newsletters, memory table, program fans, favors, flowers etc) where in the right place at the right time. I know that the hall helps you out but I knew that it wouldn't be like I wanted as they had 100 million other things to do on my wedding. So after discussing it with my husband he convinced me that he wanted me to be relaxed that day so we should go with her. I contacted Michelle who gave me an awesome deal since she didn't have to do any pre wedding preparation, but all she had to do was show up and have all the details in place as well as make sure the vendors did what they were supposed to do. She was such a sweetheart. I gave her a file with the timeline of things and how I wanted things done. She did each and everyone of those and made sure everything looked amazing. She stayed longer than we originally had planned and make sure everything was smooth.
Not only she did everything I had planned for her, but she went to the market and got me glue for my eyelashes which detached at the corner of one of my eyes. That really impressed me. She also gave my junior bridesmaid her flip flops since her shoes broke. You have nothing to worry with her.
Reverend: Steve Galegor
I am protestant and my hubby is catholic. We took 3-4 classes with Steve and they were a great foundation to our future. I was very happy as my DH was very receptive. Steve did an amazing job with the ceremony. The Catholic guests really enjoyed the message and he moved everyone. FM me if you need details.
Invitations:
Richard Peglia
[email protected]
Rich was such an artist and a great person to deal with. He was the cousin of one of the brides here at LI Wedding (Jennifer). Thanks to her I got in touch with him and we worked all our invitations and paper products from scratch. He was very patient with me and what a hit my invitations, fans, and petal cones were!!! The invitations were a great introduction to the thought that I was going to put in the wedding, and I received many compliments. I also received tons of props for the program fans. THey were such a hit especially with the warm weather. Everything looked so professional (which they were) and definitely well worth the price!
