My Very Late Vanderbilt Mansion review!
Review for Vanderbilt Mansion: 5/28/05
I’ll start by saying I had a great day! The weather was beautiful! Which was surprising because it rained all week! Thanks to LIW and all the girls whose posts I read which helped. My only advice for future brides is enjoy the day cause it flys by! And treasure your family who at times can be annoying but truly want to just share the day with you. I say this because trust me you want them there. I lost my dad 2 months before my wedding and I can’t tell you how hard it is not to have your dad there. So it’s just a little perspective when wedding planning gets crazy!
Vanderbilt Mansion: A+ They were great to deal with. Maryann is a real pro (she even sent me a condolence card after she found out about my dad). I was pretty laid back about most of the details but they were on top of their game. The food was AMAZING! My family does not stop talking about it. The cocktail hour was great and the service was impeccable. They even through in the chocolate fountain! (Amazing – definitely do this!) My family (all 44 cousins having already been married in the NYC / LI area called this the best place to have a wedding!)
Music by Michael: A +++ Loved him! My husband and I wanted a band but were scared off by the price! We found Michael and can say now he is better than a band. He kept the sound level of the music perfect to talk but still had a party feel. I also booked George and his singer to play piano and sing during courses and I thought they were great! I am a professional singer so that says something! Overall, he was a complete pro and made my wedding a party! Can not recommend him enough!
Dress: Wedding Salon of Manhasset A + Now I have seen mixed reviews of this place but I had a great experience. Cheap it is not but well worth it. I bought a sample of a Vera Wang dress and they were so sweet and understanding that ordering on my short time frame was not an option. Alterations were done by Sue, who listened to what I wanted completely and truly made the dress look fabulous! Everyone there made me feel special and treated my mom who was with me every step of the way with the utmost respect!
Bridesmaid Gowns: A+ RK Bridal – So simple, ordered dresses for way cheaper than saw them in stores and they came in early and they shipped them to all my bridesmaids all over the country. So great!
Limo_ Sir Oliver A ++++ They saved my wedding. First they were early, Second, the Cars were great! And as I was getting in the Rolls the driver joked “do you have the rings?” Good thing because I didn’t. I almost forgot them. So they were awesome. A little slow at the church but overall they were first class.
Hair: Marie from Emotion Haircutters Commack –A+ Marie has done my mothers hair for over 15 years. I grew up going to this salon so I decided to go with them. I did a test run of how I thought I was going to wear my hair and I was wrong. I really didn’t like it so I went back and tried something else. She was great and made it even better on the Big Day. She also did my jr. bridesmaids hair and they looked so cute!
Make up – Marie Katz Make up – A+ Marie is awesome. I used the air brush make up and it held up beautifully (I cry a lot!). She really listened to what I wanted at the trial and then made it better on the day. She also did my mom’s makeup and she never looked more beautiful! She is so sweet and easy going and so quick at getting back to people I have recommended her many times since!
Invitations- Sweet Nut Hut – Invitations by Cathy A
Now Cathy is a friend of my SIL’s so I went to her only because I thought I was going to use a DIY kit! But she made the invitations completely cost effective. She went through so many books with me until I found the exact right one! Everything came in on time and looked great. She also did my bookmarks which were part of the favors and truly helped us do the layout so it looked great!
Finally – Katrina Photography A++++++ Wow! LOVE her LOVE her! My pictures are truly special and unique (Mostly photojournalistic). She is an artist and a nice person. She handled the day with such ease and was never obtrusive once the party started. She did the posed shots which with the size of my family was a challenge. She had a second photographer and an assistant! WE got pictures of everything details, cake, dancing, food etc.. Please use this amazingly talented girl.
