Our Amazing Wedding - Fox Hollow, High Voltage, Marianela Vera, National Floral, Mia, Posh, and more!!!!---Updated with DIY Shutterfly Album Layout
I'm going to get right on to the review as ladies have endlessly already stated what I feel. I know that I certainly would not have been able to plan this amazing wedding without LIWeddings, Ron & Liz, and the amazing ladies that are on this site. So, thank you.Mother Nature
10:10
Leading up to April 30, I kept looking at the 10-day forecast which initially stated a 60% chance of rain. As the day got closer, the percentage decreased, and on April 30, there wasn't a drop in site. It was 70+ from start to end, and I could not have asked for a more perfect day.
Dress & Veil: Custom Made by Pinina
7:10
Pinina was referred to me by another bride I met at a knottie get together in April 2005. I did a lot of research on Pinina through previous brides who have used her, and decided that custom made was exactly what I wanted.
I went to Pinina in August and started the process in having my dress made. I originally wanted the Monique Lhuillier Leah dress, and that's exactly what Pinina created for me. Unfortunately, I ended up looking terrible in the dress, and went back to the drawing board.
I finally settled on a much more flattering design, which incorporated the ML dress, and two other Amsale dresses. Pinina went right to work and made my dream dress.
I had stated that my wedding was December 15, 2005 for a few reasons. First, I did not know what the dress would look like on me, so I wanted to give myself enough time to purchase another dress off the rack in case it didn't do me any justice. Secondly, because I knew that Pinina was leaving the country in March, and did not want to lose out on the opportunity of a lifetime. Finally, I knew that I would not be gaining or losing weight, and wanted to have my dress as soon as possible to alleviate stress.
At the first meeting, we discussed the details. The second meeting she had fabric swatches for me to select from, and the third meeting, which was in November was the first fitting of the first design. Pinina had promised the dress to be ready by Thanksgiving weekend.
Come Thanksgiving weekend, the dress was not ready. No big deal, as I was confident in her work, and knew she would get the job done. I also did not want to press her about the timing because her daughter was expecting, and I know that it is an overwhelming experience. I also asked that the dress design be changed after the first fitting, which Pinina used the same dress, and made alterations to incorporate the changes. She did not have to buy new material, and simply made adjustments with what was there. I wanted to make this as painless for myself and for her as possible.
Now it's the first week in December, and my fittings were constantly being rescheduled. Again, not a big deal. Her daughter went into labor and delivered on December 13. On December 14 (remember my wedding is on December 15) I picked up the dress and veil. Everything was exactly what I wanted, and I hurried out of the house so that she could get back to her daughter. I literally was there no more than twenty minutes.
Fast forward to February, when her daughter finds this website and decides to post an unruly comment, about how I lied about my wedding date, and that she hoped I gained weight so that I would have to have the dress altered, and I was not welcomed there. This bothered me for a few reasons. I was a paying customer, that was more than generous and courteous. I always called to confirm appointments, never complained about the numerous rescheduled fittings, and to top it off, had my wedding actually been on December 15, I would've completely bee in panic mode picking up my dress the day before! To me, this was completely unprofessional on the daughter's part. I had been recommending Pinina with glowing acclamation from beginning to end, but this act by her daughter stopped me all together from even mentioning her name. But in the end, I had my dress, she had her money, and that's all that mattered right?
On the day of the wedding, the dress was everything I ever imagined and I had no regrets. The only complaint I had, which I may have been at fault for, was that my bustle completely fell apart midway through the reception. The strings that held the bustle weren't secure enough to handle the weight when everyone kept stepping on the train. It was a French Bustle, which actually had a bit of a train, so folks were stepping on it all night. In the end, my Bridal Attendant and Mom did the best, and just used a bunch of safety pins. All in all, no regrets, and I paid $800 for my veil and my dress! The veil Pinina threw in because she hated the 'cheap' veil I bought on ebay. It was a two tier shimmer chapel length with lace outline.
I also had an personalized dress label made by ebay vendor queblessed3x who was fast, reliable, and a pleasure to work with.

BM & Jr. BM Dresses: Jim Hjelm Purchased at Valentina Bridal (www.valentinabridal.com)
10:10
My MOH, one of my BM's, and I found the Jim Hjelm dress originally at RK Bridal, and knew it was 'The One.' We then decided to research other salons and do a price comparison.
Three phone calls later, we found Valentina's, which was literally four blocks away from my house, and convenient for all of the bridesmaids.
Valentina's includes alterations for free, and the dress was 10% cheaper than RK and other stores.
The bridesmaids went for their measurements in July, and we were told that the dresses would be in sometime in January of February. The dresses arrived in January, the ladies went for their first fitting in February, and then again the first week in April, and a few had to go back for one more fitting thee week before the wedding.
Valentina's had amazing customer service, amazing alterations, and we could not have been happier.
The dresses were simply amazing. We received compliments from every single person that saw the ladies, or saw pictures. The dress complimented the many shapes and sizes of my bridesmaids, and each one felt so comfortable, and absolutely stunning!

Flower Girl Dresses: Ebay Seller - Butterflyxc
9:10
I had two criteria for flower girl dresses - inexpensive and GOLD. I wanted the flower girl dresses to compliment the gold sash on my dress, rather than mimic my dress.
I did a few searches on the internet for dresses and found the website of the seller. I then went on ebay, and found the seller again, and found their dresses to be 30% less through ebay.
I contacted the seller as I was unsure about the sizing, and the seller quickly responded, and guaranteed exchange had the dresses fit poorly.
The dresses were shipped and received in a matter of four days, and they fit perfectly. The material isn't the best, but it was great for $19.99. Yes, we paid $29.99 for the dresses and that included shipping. How could I complain?
The best part is that the dresses can be worn again and again, and the little princesses were comfortable and adorable!
Tuxedos: 1800Tuxedos (www.1800tuxedo.com)
10:10
1800Tuxedos is a client of DH's, so we did not even consider looking into any other vendor when it came to tuxes. We dealt with the Brooklyn location, and specifically with Pat Corso.
The first time we went in, we let Pat run the show, and had him pick out the tux that would look best on Ricky. He picked one out, and that was the one we got. Simple, elegant, and it made me tear up a bit, so we knew that was the one!
The gentlemen went and got measured in March, and picked up their tuxes on the Thursday before the wedding. Included were the shoes, cufflinks, ties, vests, shirts, and obviously the tux.
At pick up no one needed additional alterations as each one fit like a glove. All the accessories were there, and the men were comfortable.
We had no issues at all, and highly recommend them! The GM's matched the BM's dress perfectly, DH matched my dress perfectly, and the Usher's and my Dad matched my gold sash.
One of the GM's actually said 'This is the MOST comfortable tux I've ever worn. I can breathe in it, and my 'boys' can breathe.' (His words, not mine!)

MOB Attire: Cache - Staten Island Mall(www.cache.com)
7:10
My mother purchased this two piece dress six years ago. She never wore it, and when it came time to find her the perfect dress, we didn't even bother going further than her closet.
My mother is young, and didn't want one of those 'typical' motherly dresses, but then again, she didn't want something that looked too 'prom-ish' either. The dress was a two piece corset top with A-line skirt.
We took the dress to Pinina to find a material that matched to make a shawl. Of course Pinina found it instantly, and made the shawl, at no additional cost to us.
My mother was comfortable, felt gorgeous, youthful, and stunning all in one.
The only complaint she had was that the hem of the skirt came apart three-quarters through the reception. It was nothing a needle and thread couldn't fit, but it was quite expensive (even for six years ago) and a hem should not fall apart.
Shoes: Nina & RSVP
10:10
I literally bought six pairs of shoes for the wedding because I just couldn't decide on what I wanted. I knew I wanted the Gold RSVP pair for the reception, but couldn't find the perfect white shoe for the ceremony.
Here comes LIW to the rescue. My absolutely adorable date and hall twin, Chastity posted her shoes and I fell in love. Sending her an FM to assure her that I wasn't a psycho trying to steal her 'style' for the day of (Heaven Forbid), she actually offered to purchase them for me at DSW on Old Country Road. Can a bride have a better date & hall twin? Nope!
Both pairs were super comfortable, and kept up so well! To make it 'complete' Chas and I took a picture together!
Wedding Bands: Ice.com (www.ice.com
10:10
Thanks to Janna (BKtoLI) who referred us to ice.com, we purchased our wedding bands from them. My band matched my E-Ring PERFECTLY. Everyone thought I had the band custom made to match, and are shocked when I tell them I purchased it online! DH's band is simple, sturdy, and we had to exchange it a few times because of his ring size, but their customer service was perfect! They were efficient, reliable, and inexpensive.

Hair & Makeup: Mia Hendrickson, Bridal Lounge (www.bridal lounge.com)
10:10
I cannot speak more highly of a vendor than Mia. From the moment we corresponded we clicked.
I originally booked with a MAC Artist, but struggled to find a Hair Stylist that would provide me with extensions, without charging me an obscene amount.
I had seen a few hair/makeup trials with Mia on this site, and when I finally saw Jessica (CaMacho's) makeup trial, I knew Mia was it. She came to my house in Brooklyn for my trial, and spent 6+ hours achieving the look I wanted. She also did not charge for hair extensions, so that was honestly the biggest selling point.
Once I had my trial and shared my pictures with my bridesmaids, they all wanted to utilize her services.
On the day of, she arrived at my home promptly at 9:00 a.m. and got right to work. She ended up doing two of my bridesmaids' hair and makeup, my mother's makeup, another bridesmaids' hair, and of course my hair and makeup. She was professional, super friendly, and honestly my favorite vendor. I highly recm'd her services to those brides that are trying to achieve a dramatic and youthful appearance.
This was a broach, that we converted into a hair clip - HSNShopping.com
Flowers: National Floral Wholesale - LIW Vendor (www.800rosebig.com)
10:10
There was no doubt in my mind that Ana and the NFW Family would exceed my expectations when it came to our flowers.
I found NFW through the vendor page on LIWeddings when I was completely discouraged and almost gave up after a few terrible experiences with some other floral vendors.
I drove out to Bellmore, and sat down with one criteria for Ana - I wanted High Centerpieces since the Winter Garden Pavilion at Fox Hollow had very tall glass ceilings.
I knew exactly what I wanted from the beginning, and Ana gave me a quote sheet right then and there. The quote came in exactly at $1,500 which was my budget exactly even though another popular vendor on here told me I was being unrealistic and cheap if that's what I wanted. Ana then called Fred, who owns NFW, and Fred dropped the price even more for me.
We scheduled a time for me to come to see a sample centerpiece, and then I would put a deposit down and make the final decision. Even though I knew at the price they gave, that there was no way I would resist.
I came in saw my sample, and fell in love. I was in utter shock of the size and beauty, and put down my deposit, and kept in touch with Ana for the entire year of planning.
I did everything via email, mail carrier, and over the phone. I sent my ideas, pictures, and payments through those means because my work schedule was a complete disaster. Ana always knew what I wanted before it rolled out of my mouth.
The week of the wedding we went over final details, and on the day of, the flowers bought me to tears.
The delivery man arrived at my home with the bouquets, then headed to the church to set up the pew bows, and drop off the rose petals, and other boutiners and corsages. He was right on time, and did an amazing job. We needed the pew bows to lighten up the dark mahogany wooden pews.
The centerpieces (revised from the sample as I requested) were breath-taking. My mother and DH who fought with me for a year about flowers came up to me, and apologized, and fully understood then, why I was so adamant about them. I know it's strange considering it was the only thing 'I wanted,' but it meant a lot. The centerpieces added such elegance to the room, and guests were in complete awe.
The flowers held up perfectly a week later! My bouquet has dried perfectly, and I have NFW to thank!
I also had an embroidered bouquet ribbon made by ebay vendor queblessed3x who was fast, reliable, and a pleasure to work with.

Limousines: Romantique Limos - Brooklyn, NY (www.romantiquelimos.com)
10:10
Romantique is another clients of DH's, but we did look into other companies to get a price comparison.
We originally booked Romantique for three cars, but then decided to get one large limo for us and the bridal party. When we made the switch, Lou and John were great and didn't bat an eye, and we booked the 20 person Navigator.
The limo arrived on time to DH's, dropped them off at the church, came back and picked me up with the girls, and got us to the church with plenty of time to spear. Our driver Vinny was fantastic! He knew where he was going the whole time, and actually served as a 'coordinator' and helped line up the bridal party. He also assisted me with my train, and had the best jokes!
Romantique was amazing. Their limos are brand spanking new, super clean, and well maintained.
Day of Coordinator: Maxine
7:10
I found Maxine through LIWeddings, and booked her solely on her price. I felt that I needed a DOC during the planning stage as I had a lot of items that needed to be set up at Fox Hollow. Fast forward to March, and I find out that Fox Hollow does the entire set up for us.
I had no problems with Maxine at all. Had I had the opportunity to go back, I would have not booked a coordinator - ANY coordinator because I simply did not need it.
I was super organized from beginning to end, so I honestly did not need any type of coordinating.
Maxine was a pleasure to work with from the moment I booked her. She was always available to answer my questions with a smile.
On the day of the wedding, I completely forgot that I didn't drop off the rose petal cones or the programs at the church. I gave a call to Maxine, she swung by and picked everything up and headed to the church. At the church she organized the rose petal cones, distributed the programs, and made sure all the personal flowers were distributed to family members, the GM's, and DH.
At the reception, she bought everything to the bridal suite, and gave me an update of the vendors and such. She also distributed all the envelopes, and handled the OT of the Limo. She oversaw the setup of the reception, and made sure everything ran smoothly.
After we walked in to the reception room, she stayed near the DJ Booth. I always knew where she was, and she checked up on me throughout the night.
I have no complaints at all, but the only reason I gave a rating of 7:10 was because she didn't need to do much, as Fox Hollow and I took care of everything.
DJ: High Voltage Sounds - LIW Vendor (Vinny)
10:10
What can I say about Vinny that hasn't already been stated???
I booked High Voltage Sounds without even meeting Vinny or his staff. I did everything via FM and over the telephone, because of work constraints. Through the year of planning, Vinny and I built a great friendship, and he was always there with an answer, and if he didn't have it immediately, he had it within 24 hours!
DH saw him at Hollie's wedding, and went up to him at the end of the night and said 'Exactly what you did here, do it for us.' DH absolutely loved their work, and specifically Vinny.
I did drive him a little nuts with my random requests, and then never following up to tell him 'I'm not getting it' but it was always on top of everything, and never hesitated reminding me!
We have him a 'Must Play List' only because we were so confident in his abilities and didn't bother giving a 'Do Not Play List.' Vinny even found an obscure song that we requested for our Cake Cutting Song, which really shocked DH.
On the day of, Vinny, his assistant, and another member of his staffing in training kept our party going the entire time. We only requested one slow song because I honestly didn't want a single 'slow' moment of the evening. From beginning to end, the dancefloor was packed.
We also had 30 minutes of Middle Eastern music for my family. In the end, not a single complaint from anyone!
High Voltage kept our guests happy, us happy, and really went above and beyond. Thank You to Vinny & The High Voltage Family!

The Infamous 'Music' Vests!

Cigar Roller: La Rosa Cubana Cigars (www.larosacubanacigars.com)
10:10
I originally booked La Rosa in January, but then due to budget constraints, cancelled them. When I found out that I had a little extra cash flow, I decided to book La Rosa as a surprise for DH. I contacted them Mid-March, and they still had all my information, and sent the contract over.
I did everything over the phone and via email, and they were superb to work with. The best part was that La Rosa was HALF the price of the Cigar Rollers out there. In the end, DH ruined his surprise because he's so nosey, but it was still a very special touch that I recm'd to each bride.
The roller came in midway through the reception, set up, and got right to work. Our guests absolutely loved the 'manly' touch and enjoyed their cigars.

I also had custom-made match boxes made by ebay vendor athenalittleone, to go along with the cigars. This vendor was phenomenal. They are based in Canada, and we did everything via email and over the phone. Their prices cannot be beat!

Photographer: Marianela Vera (www.nellavera.com)
10:10
I found Marianela through the Budget Vendor Page hosted by a knottie/LIW bride. The minute I went to her website, I knew her style, and knew she was the one for us. I had searched up and down for a photographer that was in our budget, and met our requirements. We didn't want any 'packages' with albums and such, and didn't want one of those 'traditional' photographers.
Since we didn't have a videographer, we wanted a photographer that was going to capture the day fully with an artistic flair. We didn't want one of those 'pose here with your fifteen aunts, uncles, and relatives' photographers, but one that didn't ask us anything and just snapped away. It was also important for us to have the actual proofs.
I booked Marianela without having met her because I felt her work spoke for itself. I later decided to have an engagement shoot with her, to test the fields. I'm so glad we had the E.Shoot because she seriously became a friend to Ricky and I. Marianela is the sweetest person that I know, with that NYC edge I adore. We met in Central Park and she knew exactly where to go and what would be the best back drop. She shot over 200 pictures, and we got our proofs back within three weeks, and loved all of them!
Link to Engagement Pictures
I did not give Marianela a 'must take photo list' because I didn't want any shots to looked 'posed' or 'planned.' I felt that a wedding photographer knows exactly what to take pictures of, and did not need any guidance from an amateur like me! I started having my doubts on the day of the wedding, but the minute I received the proofs, I saw that her and her assistant, Justin took pictures of EVERYTHING.
On the day of the wedding Marianela arrived to my house to take the pictures of us getting ready, the details, and such. She then headed to the church and took the most amazing pictures.
We were originally going to head to the Brooklyn Promenade to take pictures after the ceremony, but then I didn't want to run into too much OT with the Limo. Looking back at it now, I feel that we should've just gone down to the Promenade, but when money is on your mind, you don't think straight! However, the shots that they took on the Fox Hollow grounds were amazing.
Our bridal party and guests felt so comfortable around Marianela and Justin. If anyone asked for a picture, they never refused, and did it with a smile. They were uninvasive, and that was so important to me and my guests. Marianela and Justin caught everyone in their natural element.
We received our professional proofs in less than three weeks. We received over 1,200 proofs, which included mostly film, then digital, in black and white and color. We are so happy to have found Marianela, and I highly recm'd her!

Ceremony: Our Lady of Lebanon Cathedral - Brooklyn, NY
10:10

I'm Maronite which is a separate division of the Catholic Church. I would say that it is a Roman Catholic Church with a combination of the Christian Orthodox traditions.
I was baptized, confirmed, raised in my church, and knew that I would one day be married there. DH is a non-practicing Catholic, and the Msgr. at OLOL embraced him into the church and welcomed him among the parishioners.
We did not have to go through Pre-Cana but did meet with Msgr. on numerous occasions for Pre-Martial Guidance. I would recommend this to all couples as you truly learn a lot about each other.
On to the day of the wedding:
We were not restricted to anything in regards to what we can throw, aisle runners, etc, so I was truly grateful for that.
We ended up not having Msgr. Sadek b/c he was celebrating his 50 Years in Ministry, and had Father John was absolutely the kindest person I've ever met. His Homily was touching, personalized, and our guests truly felt embraced. It also happened to be his first Ceremony in English!
All in all, I know ladies on here don't usually rate a church, but I 'rated' it a 10:10 b/c we honestly had no difficulties, what so ever.

Reception: Fox Hollow - Woodbury, NY (thefoxhollow.com)
10:10
I had visited a number of reception sites before I finally found Fox Hollow. The minute I walked into the lobby and saw the Winter Garden Pavillion I knew that it was 'THE ONE.' After speaking with Angel over the phone who gave us directions patiently for 45 minutes, we arrived and were greeted by the friendliest staff I've ever encountered.
We met with Banquet Manager Frank Acierno, and he went over the menu while my MOH and BM and I watered at the mouth. The entire time the 'price' was sitting in the back of my mind. I was praying that I wasn't setting myself up for disappointment as I knew I wanted my wedding here. After the menu reading, Frank gave me a price, and my jaw dropped to the floor. After I came to, I asked if he had made a mistake. He didn't, and I pulled out my check book without batting an eye. To be fair to DH, I called him and told him the price, and he didn't even care what the place looked like - he said 'book it now.' That's what I did.
A few weeks later, I came back with Mom, DH, and MIL. They fell in love with the grounds, the lobby, and of course the Winter Garden Pavilion. We then had dinner, and they asked me again if there was a mistake in the price. They just couldn't believe the quality and quantity at such an amazing price! Oh, and the grounds - gawgeous!
Fast forward to a month before the wedding, we speak with Jennifer N. who coordinated the final details - menu selection, cake selection, chair cover, and chocolate fountain! We loved Jenn! She was an absolute doll, and DH wanted her to become our best friend. She advised us on the best choices for the cocktail hour, the cake, and desserts, and every single selection was the BIGGEST hit at the wedding.
We also requested our MD & Bridal Attendant at this meeting. We requested Angel (of course) and Jennifer. Unfortunately, Jennifer was unable to make it the day of, and had Jackie M. Jackie was absolutely amazing!
The minute I stepped out of the limo, she was there. She had our drinks freshened constantly, she kept the GM's happy w/food and drinks, and literally had EVERYTHING in her 'goodie bag.' I mean, she had a curling iron...who carries that? Well, I guess a bridal attendant right?
Anyway, it turns out that Angel was the MD at my Uncle's Wedding 9 years ago at the Chateau Briand! Talk about a small world! Angel was on top of everything the entire night. Jackie was on top of everything the entire night. Fox Hollow was simply amazing the entire night! Can you tell how happy I am with Fox Hollow?
They had everything set up exactly how I asked. I did not run into a SINGLE problem with Fox Hollow. Every a week after the wedding when I remembered my shoes were missing, I called and spoke with a kind gentleman Jose, who found my shoes and a few extra favors and had them shipped to me! How honest is that?
The food at the Fox Hollow speaks for itself. Simply put - tasty, delightful, fulfilling, scrumptious, and you just can't have one.
I had the Filet Mignon AND Vegetable Purse, and DH had the Salmon. All THREE were delicious. Our guests were so full and so happy with the food, they didn't want to leave.
We picked the Peach Melba as a dessert and we were surprised in how many guests ate it! We thought the cake and mini-Viennese was enough!
We picked a whipped cream icing for the cake, with vanilla custard and fresh strawberry filing. It was simply delicious. I say this as I feared the cake would not be good, as I had sampled it at a few Fox Hollow events I'd attended. We had plenty of cake and desserts to last us a few months.

At the end of the night, Jackie put everything together, and walked us over to the Inn at Fox Hollow where we were staying. I had a piece of glass stuck in my foot, and that girl got up in there and took it out. I was actually fighting (friendly) with her b/c I was capable of doing it on my own, and would be a little freaked out touching someone else's foot! But, she did it, and I honestly love the girl!
All in all - FOX HOLLOW WAS PERFECT. They exceeded my expectations 500 times over!
