choosing a band

My fiance and I decided we really want a band at our wedding. There's onl one slight problem... I don't know how to pick a band.

How do I know that the people I see in the showcases will actually play my wedding? How do I know how much $$$ is too much? We have a budget, how can I find a good band that will get people dancing, but not cost a small fortune? We'll have about 140 guests, what kind of band would work for a wedding that size? WIll they provide music for my cermony and cocktail hour, or is that seperate?
