Events, such as weddings are usually once-in-a-lifetime events. As I'm sure you know, Disc Jockey rates vary based on talent, experience, emcee ability, service, coordination, equipment needed, music knowledge, mixing ability and personality.
Rates for the DJ industry vary greatly, ranging from $350.00 to $3,500.00 with an average of $1,200.00 for a 4 hour booking. The best price is not always the best deal, especially if you are planning a wedding. As a matter of fact, surveys conclude that nearly 100% of brides would have spent more money on their entertainment and made it their #1 priority in hindsight.
A full-service disc jockey company will normally invest 12 to 30 hours to your special event but it may appear that you are only paying for '4 hours'. Consultations, music purchasing & editing, preparation, set-up and tear-down, education and other business related endeavors add up to the overall success of your special occasion. Please don't make a mistake and hire a $400 DJ for your Wedding. I got a call about a $400 DJ who cancelled a week before the wedding. The client was desperate to find a replacement at the last minute. Unfortunately I was already booked.
Here is a note from one of my colleagues about that client:
The Bride to be called me looking for a DJ for her wedding next weekend...It seems her $400 DJ cancelled at the last minute...'my budget is tight I just had a DJ cancel on me yesterday 7-2 and my wedding is for 7-9 my highest I will go is 550 if you can do it please give me a call ASAP'...I declined as I am previously booked, and she wont spend what I was asking anyways...When are these people going to learn???? I trust you will protect your investment and at least hire a professional. There are many, including myself who are willing to work with you on an acceptable rate.
