Gratuities!!

Gratuities!!

Ok Vendors I want to hear it from you....I aready have some opinions in mind and from others about tipping the day of the wedding. I just want other opinions. We are not cheap people and always tried to take care of people we recieve a service from. I know that the tip is also usually included for some services but that often times people still give a tip. I just want your opinions. Who usually gets a tip from the day the wedding begins until the end and how much is the going rate? We are having a big wedding in a Scotto brothers catering hall. I just don't want to go overboard and I don't want to be cheap or leave anyone out. Thanks so much!

Gratuities!!

That's really considerate. Thank you! The general rule is that anyone working for someone else in a service industry might be considered for a tip. Owners would not be expecting anything extra. Percentages of contracts (as in restaurants) don't really work since photography packages (f'rinstance) have a range of thousands.

I give out a suggested gratuity sheet that I can send you if you contact me privately.

Being owners of the photographer studio, we also do not expect a tip at the end of the night. However, a tip or a wedding favor, or even the fact that they fed us dinner in their room with their guests, reflects to us that the couple appreciated the extra care we tried to give them to help their day run smooth and be fun and exciting for them. We've had brides and grooms who have run outside while we packed up just to give us a gift or note expressing how much it meant to them that they cared. It just makes you feel that they thought of you as more of a friend than a worker at their wedding. Thanks for the consideration!

Re: Gratuities!!

I can only answer the part of your question relating to entertainment but I hope this helps. There is no set percentage amount for a gratuity for a entertainer, band,dj etc. You should not even consider this for a performer until the end of the wedding - and then base it on the services you received. I was very surprised to recently find several entertainment vendors that added the gratuity to their fee - at contract time. Gratuity should only be considered if all your expectations were met and then some. Also there is no set percentage. A client who is gracious to give a gratuity should never be made uncomfortable regarding the amount.Hope this helps you. My office is also recommended by the Scotto's
at all their locations.

Re: Gratuities!!

Well, tips are usually given to show 'THANKS' for a job well done. When we go to a restaurant we tip the server, we don't tip the owner or manager.

I am an owner and I do not expect a tip but.........
when the bride & groom come up to me and my husband and thank us for making their day special,
it makes us feel real good! Sometimes the bride will make a point of calling me a few weeks before her day and ask how many will be staying for dinner. That is a very kind gesture! It is highly appreciated!
When we get a thank you card........I get so excited!
Some brides send us gifts for Christmas!
You need to do whatever you feel is right. Nothing is written is stone.

What about catering halls that include large gratuity fees?

Re: Gratuities!!

Regarding the catering halls there is really not much choice. Many automatically include the gratuity for the waiters, waitresses etc in a percentage added on to the total fee. Just make sure you are aware of the amount of the gratuity.
It is totally different from a gratuity to a band, dj etc.
I do not know if it is negotiable with the catering hall. Each location has a different policy. Make sure you ask. One of the other things you should definitely find out prior to signing contract is the cost of any overtime - both from band or dj as well as from the catering hall. Many brides and grooms automatically approve of overtime without finding out what the catering hall will charge. Be careful that this is not an area where you break the budget. Know all these details prior to the wedding and do not be 'pressured' into any decision. you want every aspect of your wedding day to be perfect and magical.
