Having trouble selecting a first dance?

If so, be sure to use your entertainment source (band or DJ) as they can be very helpful in your exploration of the options. Although the number of possibilities is staggering, many of us have Planners which may include lists of songs often selected by our clients which may be appropriate for you or spark a memory of another tune by association. Ask your entertainment provider what type of Planners they have available to assist you and ask to see them. This information may ultimately help you choose your music provider. Use this as another tool in narrowing down your potential candidates. Remember that not all Planners are alike, so be sure to do your research. Personalized, client-centered vendors may also provide opportunities to have you sample songs, or may suggest songs after talking with you about your interests in music, how you met, etc. Of course, you hope to find a song that truly characterizes the nature of your relationship and sometimes it takes some searching to find the 'right' song. Here's my contribution to some of the possibilities... It is taken from my 'Wedding Music Planner...'

Re: Having trouble selecting a first dance?

An additional aspect to think about is how your guests will react to the first dance.Consider the age group of your guests. Selecting a song they are not familiar with will make it harder to get them onto the dance floor. The ideal first dance should not only be meaningful to the bride and groom - but also comfortable for the guests to dance to. There are some great songs that are more difficult to dance to -especially if someone is not comfortable dancing. A song with an easy lilt will enable even the most uncomfortable dancer to sway in time to the music. I can think of one specific instance where the first dance chosen by a bride and groom was 'You're My Best Friend' by Queen. It was very meaningful to the couple but the guests were an older crowd and not familiar with the song. It was also harder to dance to. As a result no one joined the bride and groom on the dance floor for the first dance- not even the bridal party. This is just giving another way to consider the first dance selection.
