Honeymoon help

My honeymoon if fully refundable at secrets resorts in riviera maya mexico and everyone I speak with tells me I am crazy not to cancel it get my money back and go elsewhere That mexico is not a place to go right now that its really bad there.I know people say just don't leave the resort but we wanted to go to cancun and the pyramids
So I looked at other places I would want to go and I like Excellence Punta Cana Can anybody give me Advice or help me choos where to go?

Mexico is fine to go to... This is a resort town not a border town where most of the violence is.. I went to Cabo San Lucas in May and it was great, we left the resort and everything.

You just have to be smart..because anywhere you go, there are people that want to take advantage of tourists.
