Invitation wording

I have a problem. The wedding is being hosted by both sets of parents but mine are divorced. Is this proper wording or do I have to change it?

John and Jane Smith
and
Robert and June Cleaver
request the honor of your presence....

But my parents are divorced. They aren't 'Mr. and Mrs.'

Re: Invitation wording

Hi Dear:

If your parents are legally divorced then you absolutely cannot refer to them as Mr. and Mrs. -- using their first names as you have done is totally acceptable.
Ther are some other ways that your invitation can be worded --but if both sets of parents are co-hosting -- then this is probably the best way to go ---

Best of Luck with all--and if you should have

Re: Invitation wording

Just wanted to add that you should, however, put the mother's names first --

(Jane and John -- in lieu of John and Jane)

(June and Robert--in lieu of Robert and Jane)

Re: Invitation wording

Thanks. So, that have
John and Jane Doe is ok? Because some say it has to be
John Doe
and
Jane Doe
and
Mr. and Mrs. Smith (grooms parents)

I think that is SO choppy!

Re: Invitation wording

Hi --

The names of your parents do not have to be on 2 different lines --(as long as they are OK with the fact that they are on the same line -- it definitely reads better and is totally acceptable -- I am also assuming that although they are divorced that your mother has retained her married surname)
If your parents insist on not being on the same line --that is also acceptable

Again, the mother should go first -- so it should be:

Jane and John Doe (in lieu of John and Jane)

It reads better and the wording flows better if the groom's parents go by their first names, as well--(Jane and John Smith) --but, in light of the fact that they are still married --they, understandably, might prefer to be referred to as Mr. and Mrs. John Smith--so --then it would be:

Jane Doe and John Doe OR

Jane and John Doe OR

Jane Doe
and
John Doe

and

Jane and John Smith OR

Mr. and Mrs. John Smith

Again, Best of Luck to you and --please do
not hesitate to contact me with any
questions --

Re: Invitation wording

This is what one of my invitation book's suggest to write:

When the bride's divorced parents are both listed on the invitation:

Diane Jean Chrzanowski (or Mrs.Robert Cheney, if remarried)
and
Daniel Thomas Chrzanowski (or Mr. Daniel Thomas Chrzanowski)
*request the honour of your presence
at the marriage of their daughter
Colleen Marie to
Ryan Michael Cronin, etc.

I hope this helps. Good luck! Laura--LA Productions [email protected]
