Is it ever too early?

My fiance and I booked our reception hall and our ceremony site for 10/24/2009. I've gotten several recommendations for vendors. Should we start scheduling meetings? How far in advance do some vendors book? How many vendors should we check out before we make our decision?

Re: Is it ever too early?

Hi:

Certainly for vendors like photographers and Dj's/Bands its never too early. These are vendors that I think take a lot of time to figure out what you want and who you would like to book with. Popular vendors book well in advance so maybe start figuring out what styles you like and check out the vendors that meet your needs. Its never too early.

I think for my own wedding in May 04, I booked my photographer in early 2002.

You dont want to leave too little time and then have to settle on someone you werent too sure of b/c your original choice wasnt available.

Good luck.

Re: Is it ever too early?

Well Congratulations!

I think it's a good idea to plan early. I'm already booking for 2009 and if you have your heart set on a popular vendor I'm guessing they probably are too. It is also nice because you'll be giving yourselves a longer time to budget everything.

As for how many vendors to see.... That's up to you. Personally I like it when my couples meet with other officiants. How do you know the differences till you have something to compare with? There are many good vendors but finding the right one, whose chemistry clicks with yours, is the trick.

Starting early also lets you stop and remember to spend time loving the life you live, and not make planning invasive.

Wishing you and amazing New Year, filled with much love and laughter,, wisdom and wonder.

Re: Is it ever too early?

We are also booking 2009. I would especially recommend an early booking if you are getting married in a 'popular' season for weddings (May, June, Sept,, Oct., etc), on a holiday weekend (Memorial Day, July 4th, or Labor Day weekend) or a 'sexy' date like 7-7-07. Once you book your important vendors, you can relax and enjoy your engagement. Another reason why early bookings occur is to allocate time for other personal and professional activities during the time that you would normally be planning, like bar exams, dissertations and medical boards. With the bookings out of the way, you can concentrate on your business and personal priorities.

Best wishes for a happy and healthy new year,

Lynn from Florisan
