Need clarification on tipping vendors

Need clarification on tipping vendors

I've heard that if the vendor owns the business, they do not need to be tipped, however I've seen other places (i.e., hair salons, etc) that readily accept tips from clients. I don't want to insult our vendors if they do a great job, but I also don't want to go overboard!

Can anyone clarify this for me?

Thanks

Sure.

The owner of a business is not expecting a tip. Every once in a while, someone offers me a tip. I say 'oh, that's not necessary' and if they say 'oh, please take it' then I say thank you and am grateful.

Generally, it is nice to tip anyone working FOR a vendor/business in a service industry, but we would not be insulted if you did for us also (or didn't!!)

Dear Teri,
You brought up a good point on a vendor who does an excellent job but concerned about going overboard - and Mark also brought up a good point about people working for the vendor. I am sure that if a vendor or people working for the vendor produce an outstanding job anything you consider would be appreciated .There is no specific rule or percentage. I always advise brides to figure out their budgets in advance- including all extras. Regardless of all the planning the final results always seem to come in higher than figured. But at least this way you will avoid the problems of being way over budget as you approach the wedding date. The last thing you need is to start your new life with a debt you did not expect. I agree with Mark that the owner of the business does not expect anything extra- but again it is always up to the client to make the final decision. Good luck to you- hope this was of help.

Re: Need clarification on tipping vendors

Dear Teri,

I agree with all the vendors that tipping should be based upon a vendor going above and beyond your expectations. Although tips are not mandatory, they are always sincerely appreciated. With this in mind, if you desire to give this thoughtful gesture and 'tip', bride & grooms would best be served by presenting the tip to each individual worker that has contributed to the success of their affair.
In doing so, it will provide each worker an opportunity to express their appreciation to you and will help to ensure that your tip has been received by those you intended it for-although most vendors are extremely honorable, tips do not always make their way to the individual workers.

Good Luck in all your planning!

ular vendor might have several individuals working/performing at your wedding in your desire to have each individual receive your tip and to add that personal touch your best served to present your generous gift to

Teri,

Tipping should be totally up to you. If you feel that the vendor did an excellent job , and really made your day great, than perhaps you will want to tip them, regardless of the status of the person actually working the event : ie. the owner

Sometimes , to secure the owner for an event an additional fee is already incurred, in this case I don't think it's necessary at all to tip the owner.

For owners, a nice thank you note, or something along those lines would be just as appreciated if not more.

Hope that all made some sense ! Good luck with everything !

Re: Need clarification on tipping vendors

In my opinion my best tip that I can get is a nice 'Thank You' note from the bride and groom. If someone takes the time and thought to write a small note of thanks they must really have appreciated my personal touch. This means more to me than any monetary tip I could receive.

Good Luck!
