Re: NON- religious officiants
Hi and congratulations.
The majority of us who are 'Officiants' and all the other words we use to show our impartiality when it comes to you being the one who decides what is said at your wedding do rely on an ordination for our legal authority.
Town Hall will have a list of officiants. In order to be on a town list you must be either a civil or interfaith officiant but they tend to focus on judges. Every town hall has it's own list so check a few if you don't find one who is available right away.
With that said, a judge doesn't do the amount of original writing and personalization that a professional officiant does. I'm not trying to sell you one way or the other but rather to give you some food for thought, and there is a huge difference in the level of service. You will want to make sure that what you get is more than the bare minimum required by law that has you in and out in 5 minutes.
Wishing you the wedding of your dreams, followed by a lifetime of happiness.

Re: NON- religious officiants
Hello,
Congratulations on your engagement and up and coming wedding.
April is right about the Judges and I know plenty. Once you want to get personal and change whatever it is that they have, the less interested they are in doing it. If you still would like a judge I can def. refer you.
I am listed under NYCWEDDINGS.COM and am the officiant from the 2006 The Wedding of the Year hosted by LIWEDDINGS.COM and NYCITYWEDDINGS.COM. In case you change your mind.
