Photo Journalism

While sitting with my photographer tonight to create a photo package, he strongly recommended having an additional camera person to do the photo journalism. Is this necessary and will it truly make a difference in my pictures? I want my photos to be gorgeous, but is the additional expense needed????

Please help!!!

Thanks!!!

Re: Photo Journalism

Every photographer is different. Some like to do traditional and photo journalism, which is a form of candid photography, and some would rather concentrate on one form or the other.

You may hire a separate photo journalist style photographer and be happy you did, or you may say it didn't matter that much, and that you didn't need or know what to do with all the extra photos.

When couples and photographers meet they discuss the wedding day and their expectations. Based on this discussion a photographer may recommend certain things, such as using a second photographer, or having a couple see each other for photography prior to the ceremony. If you're comfortable with your photographer, and can afford it, then go for the photo journalist option.

Without knowing a lot more details, it would be very hard for someone who has never met you to provide a definitive answer to your question. Based upon my observations, the profit margin associated with a photo studio supplying a photo journalist is minimal, so if a studio recommends it, it's for your benefit, not theirs. Their benefit comes through correctly diagnosing what you want and delivering it to your satisfaction. Too wordy, I know, but I hope this makes your decision making easier. Good luck.
