Photography Scheduling help

Since I am beginning to make appts with photographers, I was wondering a few things.

If I am getting ready at home and want pictures there, how early would you appear at my house.

How much time should I allocate to take pictures after the ceremony. My church has a nice garden area not large but pretty that we could use. I do not want to go anywhere else to take outside pix.

We are trying to decide when we should have our ceremony, which my priest has noted 5:00 but we can do it earlier if we want. My church only does one wedding on Fridays. My reception hall says we should be there 2 hrs before the cocktail hour (7:30) for pix on their grounds. Which I find to be too much time. I am having the reception at Chateau Briand.
I think it shouldn't be no more than 1 hr.
Given that, say our ceremony begins at 5:00 pm and we are done by 5:30, with pix, releasing of the doves would be around 6:00 pm and us jumping in the limo to head to the reception that is 15 minutes away and begin taking pix there we should be done by 7:30.
Would the 1/2 hr for the pix and everything else be enough at the church?
Thanks for the help.

Re: Photography Scheduling help

Depends on your photographer. Everyone works differently, and some DO want 2 hours for portraits. We work pretty quickly and can do all the posed groups in 15 minutes to 1/2 hr and like to start with getting ready an hour before leaving (before you put the dress on)

I was thinking that an hour would be sufficient at my house while I got ready. Two hours is too much time. But maybe since the girls would be lingering in the house, those would be some amazing shots that I would not be in it for me to see.

Thanks Mark and no worries on pushing your services.

True, we all work differently. We like to have one hour before you leave for the church and an hour inbetween church and cocktail hour. But again, when you see photography studios ask them on their policy. It all depends on how much they like to 'pose their shots'. Hope this helps.
