The Search for a Venue...Please Help!!

I am planning a wedding in Long Island, but I live in Washington, DC, and will be working full time AND in business school, thus having minimal time to make trips up north to check out reception sites. So I was hoping for some suggestions to limit the list. We really want to be somewhere on the water, and we````d also like to be the only wedding there. Hotels are out, and we really like places with 'character.' We did see a few places already, on a trip up to NY a few weekends ago: Land````s End, which we LOVED, but might be out of our budget; Riviera, which we liked a lot, but might be too small; John Anthony````s, at which we were treated rudely and did not like; and Chateau Le Mer, which was sort of take-it-or-leave it, a bit too generic for our tastes. The big problem we have is that my father insists on inviting 130 of his closest family and friends (that````s his 'A' list!!) but barely giving us enough $$ to cover expenses, if we were to have it at a place like Land````s End, where a Sunday would run us $110 pp ++. So...I````m looking for advice. We````re trying to keep the cost pp under $100, but we need a facility that can accommodate at least 200, maybe even 250. And, of course, we````d love to hear if you````ve attended weddings at any places where you````ve had really good (or bad) experiences. I wish I were more familiar with LI, but I haven````t lived there since I was a kid, so any help is greatly appreciated!

Hmmmm.... You've got some difficult criteria ro work with. Riverview in Oakdale is less expensive, but I'm not sure how many they can acommodate. Also La Salle in Oakdale (which is going through changes. They were bought out, so I'm not sure what name they are going under.) Giorgio's in Baiting Hollow might work, but although the site is at the water, you're not ON the water. Try Atlantica in Westhampton.

I'll post again if I think of any more.

Captain Bill's Bayshore, excellent choice. Owners great to work with, food best in the area.

As wedding photographers, Photos of the Heart puts weddings on-line from all over. See the halls and others on-line. Also, have you seen
Crescent Club in Bayville ????? Which is on the water but also near the famed Planting Fields Arboreteum in oyster Bay. Give us a direct call or e-mail us for more specific information if we can help.

The Shoreham Country Club is a beautiful place on the North Shore. I'm not sure though if you need to live in Shoreham to be able to rent the facility.
