Wedding Dress fitting question....

I am HOPING to lose ALOT of weight before my October 1, 2005 wedding. When should I start looking for dresses? I want to lose alot of weight before I go looking but I know that it takes months for these dresses to come in.

Would it make a difference if I went soon and had to have alot of alterations done on the dress. Will the dress look the same or will it be altered after so many alterations????

What should I do???????

Re: Wedding Dress fitting question....

Congratulations to you!
Over the last few weeks this question about altering the bridal gown has come up.
In the past my brides that bought their dress 2 dress sizes bigger did have problems getting it to fit or drape well. One bride had to purchase another dress less than 10 days before the event because of her many alterations did not work. Another said that her alterations costs skyrocketed the price of the dress. Please take this into consideration. My advise is get referrals before you purchase, your dress. See their work and shop around for alteration fee quotes. I hope this helps!
Good luck and god bless!

Re: Wedding Dress fitting question....

HI and congratulations...but stop......do not buy a dress if you think you are going to lose alot of weight..ive spent many unecessary hours in the bridal salons with my brides fitting and refitting the dress..if the pattern has to be changed...like if for instsnce you lose 30 pounds the whole shape of the bodice will shift...definately ask them what the cap is on alterations...what is the most they will charge for alterations..find out if they charge extra for adding bustle ties.. or an extra applique ..dont assume anything...they will charge for everything... yes it takes several months to get a dress and yes things do happen..find a store that is reputable...call the better business bureau and see if there are any complaints against them...i just went through my daughters wedding last month and there were many many extra alterations needed because of the designers failed communication with the aleration person..p.s. i wass russo's wedding planner for several years...you will have a beautiful wedding..if i can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to email me back...sincerely francine decicco www.awedwitharedhead.com

Re: Wedding Dress fitting question....

Hi There!

My name is Raquel Knoell from Thomas Knoell Designs. In our store, we carry an exclusive couture designer that has an amazing turaround time of 3-4 months. This is the perfect amount of time to have your dress made, with enough time for you to get your figure exactly where you want it. If we measure you 4 months before your wedding and you still lose some weight, we will be able to alter the dress so that it will fit you perfectly. My seamstress is amazing and she also did my wedding-so if I can trust her with my wedding, I certainly trust her with yours! I think the turnaround time is most important, because if you select a gown that takes 8 months to order, you may run into trouble if the dress needs to be significantly altered. I would be happy to have you come in, try some dresses on to see what you like best and then wait until 4 months before your wedding to be measured and order the dress. Call me at 516-365-2610 to schedule an appointment.
Thanks!
Raquel
